View Full Version : A big ask!

Hi guys, some of you will probably remember my earlier postings regarding the "Haynes Pig" my mate's father started to build, (for those who don't recall it here's a quick precis: My mate's dad wanted to build a car, I got him into the Haynes idea, he started but struggled to find a donor so decided to turn it into a three wheeler (hence the "Haynes Pig" title). Anyway he completed it as a three wheeler and has been building trikes for the last year or so. A month or so back he was diagnosed with cancer, at first they thought they could do something but this morning I was told that he's terminal and there's nowt they can do for him.
Now to the upshot of this post and its a big ask!
Is there anybody in the West Midlands area (Shropshire in particular) with a complete, registered and road going car that could perhaps take him for a drive out?
I haven't seen him since he was diagnosed so it might not even be possible but it occurred to me tonight that the one thing I could have done for him was to give him a ride in the Dragon. Sadly that is at least a year off completion so perhaps a kindly soul in the area could help out?
I hope to visit him at home tomorrow evening ( he only lives 1/4 mile away from me) and will know better from that if it is even viable for him but I thought first of all to see if there was a car and driver nearby.
Here's hoping someone can help and that he is up to it.

So sorry to here that Dave, if my car was anywhere near finished then I would offer my services.
We have members down the M6 Corridor with working cars ( I think ....) so hopefully something can be sorted.
Handy Andy has been through this Mill recently although I think his Mother has had a better prognosis.

Thanks TT, he's a mate not family but if it can be done and he is good for it I'd love to see it. He's built and raced grass track for years in the past so cars is in his blood. As I said I don't know if he's fit enough for a ride out as I haven't seen him since mid January but by all accounts he's gone downhill at an alarming rate, and now to be told there're no brakes!
If anyone can help out I'll gladly pay any out of pocket expenses to cover it.

I hope you find someone to help.
My mum wanted a ride in mine when it was done. But due to the cancer being so rapid her time ran out before i could organise a car for to have a ride in, sadly she passed away last wednesday.

I would still like to hear from anyone within reasonable travelling distance of Telford with a road-going Haynes who would be prepared to give my mate a ride out in it, I will cover travelling expenses. Anyone?

Im in S Wales mate, would be a bit of a jaunt in a bec. There must be somebody closer? I would genuinely love to do it, but the combination of shit weather and a tiny fuel tank would make the journey a nightmare.

Thanks Dan, you're right its a bit far for you to come. Surely there is someone closer than South Wales?

Thanks Rich, that could well be a good time. TSM, it would be nice if it were a Haynes Roadster as he had started to build one himself but if push came to shove a Westie or Locost or even a Robin Hood would do:D . He's coming down to see me tomorrow so I'll know more about his condition then.

Mick visited me today, what a change in the last couple of months, he's lost two stone in weight Bute wasn't a big chap anyway. He's really gotten to look old and haggard. I mentioned the possibility of a ride out in a couple of months and his face lit up, so definitely up for it if you can do it Rich, thanks for stepping up. Good luck with the IVAN.
