View Full Version : F1 looking closer

F1 teams seem to have got their act together over the winter with all the cars. Testing and practice sessions were not a whitewash for redbull for a change unless they are just bagging it. Might be in for a good season:rolleyes:

Setting a second dish up this evening to get it live from RTL on Astra 1 'cos I'm not gonna pay Murdoch a single penny to view what should be on the BBC in its entirety (SP?) Qualis sounded entertaining this morning on 5live so tomorrow we have pictures courtesy of RTL in Germany and commentary from BBC R5Live, could be entertaining in more than one way:D .

D.

In edit, it will be interesting to see the story unfold about the Merc's extra ducting. Piping air from the rear wing to the front to reduce downforce when the DRS is in operation, these guys reqally are working on the ragged edge of aero!

I cant believe that the bbc have put on a second hand run of the race on the box in the afternoon, the results have already been all over the news. What a bunch of tossers:mad:  :(

Its not the Beeb's fault, their deal with F1 and Sky is that they can only show 10 of the races live but can show highlights later in the day, for some people this will be their only way of seeing all the races.

My setup worked well: Radio 5 live via freesat through the surround sound system and pictures courtesy of german channel RTL via a free to air sat receiver and small portable dish lined up to Astra1.

Something like this would do it:

So that mighty midget Bernie has sold it off and denied us the chance to watch f1 without sticking our hands in our pockets. Kin great, can it not be watched on a pc or does that involve more trickery than that dish gadget?

Bob

Davey

It can apparently be watched live on this site:

Or this one:
http://www.lshunter.tv/

D.

My preference is the sat dish, not expensive and you can get so much more to view, Eurosport for example, I know they used to show a lot of motorsport, Icelandic offroad and truck trialling as well as tractor pulling and drag racing.

Will have to have a look at that, I watched the race on the beeb and there was no depth, pit walk, banter or even coverage of the whole race.

Pissed off Bob:mad:

The beeb's coverage wasn't as bad as I expected, but it was hardly what they would call 'award winning'.
It also meant I had to completely avoid any and all sources of media that may reveal the result.

Still, at least I'll get to see Silverstone live, I'll be there, can't wait!! :D

yeah it was good Rosberg won and yeah a few over took but it's mostly a follow my leader thing and will never be a patch on bike racing, besides MotoGP bikes a quicker...:p

yeah it was good Rosberg won and yeah a few over took but it's mostly a follow my leader thing and will never be a patch on bike racing, besides MotoGP bikes a quicker...:p

In 2004, Mr V Rossi lapped the Sepang circuit in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix in the very quick time of 2:01 (dry), that's 2 mins and 1 sec. In the same year a Mr M Schumacher lapped the same circuit in the death defying time of 1 minute and 33seconds. This is a full 75% of the time a motorcycle takes. Or put another way; a F1 car can do 4 laps in the time a MotoGP cycles can do only 3.
So, that ends that.
Gav.
P.S. Cars are also fast at top speeds, ref Thrust SSC
Cars are faster accelerators, ref drag racing.
Cars are faster round circuits, ref F1 v MotoGP times.

Cracking race, this season is just getting better and better. Brilliant drive by Maldonado and great to see Alonso being among the first to congratulate him. Also good to see Hamilton showing respect to Fank. Can it possibly get any more exciting?

That was some race. Those boys earn their money at places like monaco. I cant get my head round the fact they bash so many perfect laps in for two hours. mm perfect.

Definitely a hell of a circuit. As they said on top gear a couple of series ago, its one of those circuits you could pick up and put in the middle of a field somewhere without the harbour or the scenery and it would still be a great one with the closeness of the barriers and the 'can't get away with anything' lack of run off space.

Don't know if you have already seen it but on the senna film there is footage of him driving monaco, that is truly mesmerising to watch. Seems so much quicker if that is possible especially with all the gear changes etc as well.

yup its all still to play for. Got me portable dish set up as its another race that the Beeb are only showing highlights later. So we've got pictures live via German channel RTL and commentary live via BBC R5 live? Well not quite, for the first half hour of the race R5 was giving extended coverage of some boring cricket match YAWN! 7.30 they went over to the F1, 7.45 I fell alseep due to a combination of not being very well for the last couple of days and not sleeping well because of it, a HUGE roast pork sunday lunch and a quantity of brown falling down water. Resurfaced in time for the last ten laps or so.

Its still an interesting season, D.

rpjg1975
11th June 2012, 09:41 AM
I'll second that. Only thing that annoys me sometimes is the drivvel that comes from the commentators and that pillock they have got in the pits now. Plenty of awards for stating the bleeding obvious!

HandyAndy
11th June 2012, 02:41 PM
That was a great race

Lewis seems to be so more focused this season from last season, even tho its his first win of this season he,s now leading the championship ( by only 2 points ) but his consistant points scoring has got him there,

Nice to see 2 new upcoming drivers on the podium too , Perez was driving like Hamilton in his first season

great race & a great season so far

Davey
11th June 2012, 07:00 PM
We'vwe been impressed with Perez from the start of his F1 career. In his first ever race he was the only driver to only pit once whilst most otherss pitted three times. Now he's got a competitive car under him he's showing the big boys what he can do. Definitely one to watch in the future.

A great race indeed, & not the end result that was expected

I do like the way Kimi doesn,t get all excited,,,even after finishing 2nd he was sooooo calm & almost disapointed  , wonder what it takes to make him look happy :D

Its about time Maldonado (sp) was told to behave, I wonder how much money he has cost OTHER teams let alone his own

Roll on Silverstone , can,t wait .

Davey
26th June 2012, 02:59 PM
Yeah a great day of motorsport on the box. My mate bettered it though getting as VIP trip to Croft for the touring cars including a pit lane pass.

In about two hours we roll for Goodwood and the Festival of Speed, been looking forward to this weekend since this time last year:D .

Its about time Jenson got his finger out and scored some serious points but from 18th on the grid he's got a big challenge on. I lost interest in Hamilton last week at the Festival of Speed, he turned up Saturday morning, did one run up the hill with a few burnouts/donuts, signed a few autographs then buggered off " a very busy schedule" was the excuse given. How did all the other F1 names manage to get their callendars clear for it then? JB was there Sat and Sun and signing autographs down by the start line, Vettel and Webber were both there along with Chandhok, Bruno Senna and Nick Heidfeld (course record holder at 41.6 secs for the 1.16 mile hillclimb).

D.

8th July 2012, 03:08 PM
FMB that was a good race. The mercedes engined cars are just not cutting it with the renault and ferrari powered cars. The power advantage that was present at the start of the season has gone.Sad for lewis and jenson but its not the car its just the raw pace thats not there. Mind things change just as quickly and another race could be another story.

Bob

Davey
8th July 2012, 04:04 PM
All the teams are a lot closer this year than almost ever before and it has made for a truly exciting season so far, 7 different winners in 9 races. 20 or so years ago you were lucky to see more than six cars finish a GP, now its rare for six to fail and the racing is closer than ever. The first four or five laps today were edge of the seat stuff, it settled down a bit in the middle but was still exciting racing.

D.

8th July 2012, 07:10 PM
Good day on the box for motorsport. GP boys were at it big time ,poor old stoner threw it into the kitty litter on the last lap:eek: That pleased some of the other title contenders. That Button is a good lad signing all the autographs at the end of what was a shit day for them.

22nd July 2012, 09:57 PM
That was a decent race. looks like ferrari`s earlier pace was for real and not just a freak couple of wins. They might be the team to beat unless the others get their fingers out.weird how the merc can put in a fastest lap but just cant keep it going. Looked on F1 website and Norbert whatever his name said merc need to do catch up because they were half a second a lap down on the leaders. Half a kin second, less than a blink of an eye and it means they were 25 seconds away from the leaders which seems like a country mile.

Thats it for a few weeks but that was a good race. Lewis and car as one and on top form. lotus on top of their game after a long time out of the sport, kimi doing the biz and that young french lad showing a lot of promise. Cant wait for the second half of the season to get under way.

Could not believe the Coulthard & the other idiot were leaning to wards blaming Lewis for the accident, (bring back Murray !!!) pretty obvious to anyone watching it was Grosjean who was at fault. Great come back for Jenson, hopefully the McLaren boys have finally got the car sorted with the new upgrades.

Cheers

Davey

Another exciting race and a brilliant drive from Jenson, he seems to have better focus now perhaps. The accident at the start was totally down to Grosjean and it was pure luck that Alonso didn't get serious head injuries from it. As for the commentators well all I can say is when that accident first occurred it was not obvious what had happened. Until we got the replays it did look like Lewis had cocked up but it very quickly became clear that he was just an innocent party that got tangled up with someone else's accident.

McLaren can't catch break this year, sure would have been nice to have a one two finish !! The red crap really got lucky with the almost unsafe pit release & then an iffy call on the Vettel pass, shame these things happen it might well have give Alonso the points to win the championship !! stunning drive from Perez.

You have to admire Alonso , he is always there in the background making the very best of a very bad job. Button is a diplomat and just keeps his trap shut in front of the microphone when really he wants to scream:cool: its all still to play for and far from a one horse race.
