About a year after buying the book and deciding to build one I finally got some running gear and a welder, nowhere to build it yet mind but working on that (thinking maybe an old caravan parked on the drive gutted out lol).
I was planning on a Portamig MIG but seeing the TIG I couldnt resist.

Those donor parts won't fit a book roadster unfortunately. Diff is wrong size etc.

'Won't' = need to be creative lol!
I think one thing I've definitely picked up over the last year of reading the forums is that almost anything is possible with enough effort. This is probably the friendliest and most helpful forum I've ever signed up to so that gives me a little optimism that problems can be overcome. I did know these wouldn't be a perfect fit when I bought them but I'm planning on a nice big fat bimmer V8 so I'm hoping they'l go with that quite nicely. Once I get that in place then I'l have to start planning the rest around it.

V8? Yes got my little heart set on it! Correct me if I'm mistaken but I think my best option is a pre 8/95 M60B40? 4.0 286 bhp, rather silly really :p They seem rarer than second hand portamigs though.
Haven't got a clue which box fits on it yet but I'm patient, one step at a time. When I'm ready to start I will post up a blog/build diary and probably a million questions.
Andy, I should apologise to you, when I first bought the book I emailed you regarding chassis packs, you replied within a week apologising for the delay and asking what I wanted to build, Hmm had to think then and still figuring it all out so apologies for not getting back to you its just I still dont know all the answers.

Hey.... no apologies needed at all :)
Its just great to see that you are now commencing your build, & it looks like you have done some great research along the way , sounds like a great project:cool:
I,m not that clued up on BMW engines, mine is the M50 engine, 2.5ltr straight 6 in my E34 525i, that has 192bhp & have often thought when the time comes that the car shall be no more that i,d love that engine in my Roadster :)
Good luck with your build, I,ll follow it & look forward to seeing it progress.
cheers

I was just saying the parts won't fit a "book" roadster, obviously anything is possible with a bit of imagination.
I love BMW engines particularly an me EVO straight 6 at about 8000 rpm. Best of luck with your build.

Aerosam has already done this v8 bmw thing and there are quite a few piccies of it on his build up.. Its a bit of a beast and lighter than the six pot
478 lbs / 217 kg
From the BMW brochure for the new M3:
"Weighing a mere 202 kg (445 lb), the V8 power unit featured in the new BMW M3 is a genuine lightweight. Even compared with the six-cylinder power unit in the former model, engine weight is down by some 15 kg or 33 lb."
445 + 33 = 478.

Those wheels will look bloody lovely on the car.

I have to admit the wheels were an after thought, I was watching the running gear expecting it to go up at the last minute and it didnt, when I looked at his other items I thought for £50 I get a set of wheels and tyres that I can use for rolling around and IVA. As it happens the rims are in really good condition and all the tyres are more than road legal. I'm thinking with the right paint work they will could look really good.
Although I've been looking at this for about a year, in the last 3 weeks I've just bought a floor standing pillar drill, running gear, wheels, a nice quality airbrush, TIG welder, coupled with my existing compressor and spray guns and other tools.
I know all this kit needs some serious practice hours investing in them to learn how to get decent results from it, I've used most of it before but not for many years so my skill levels are probably rustier than the Titanic.
I'm a bit skint now which is gutting cos I really want to crack on but patience wil prevail:)
