hope its ok to post here, having probs with my renault laguna, so wondered if anyone has any ideas... apart from its a renault, theres the problem....

my laguna had been, lurching, i think is the only way to describe it... a bit like when you have some mucky petrol and the car runs poorly till its gone through... it got worse as you accelerated harder..... but would then go away, sometimes for about 20 miles at a time, then it would come back... last time, i was nearly home and slowed for a turn and the engine braking was quite severe, then the gears wouldnt select properly, turned the corner and there was a grating noise, accelerated up the hill, which i had to do with some force, foot right down for not much movement, turned another 2 r/h corners where it made the same noise , managed to pull onto the drive where i left it.... yesterday, went out and started the car, engine runs and sounds sweet, clutch engages and there is no creep when any gears engaged... when you go to move the car, it needs to be revved quite hard to get it going, as if the brakes are on.... checked all the brakes, no problems, nothing binding/sticking.... but when you do get it moving and put into neutral,or depress the clutch, it just stops... no freewheeling at all,

so my guess is either the drive shafts, or the gearbox, but without taking either off/apart i dont know....

is anyone out there with the same experience, or any ideas or thoughts, thanks in advance, mm

It may be the gearbox. Gearbox is a well known weak spot in Laguna. Trouble is they are all bad and you're lucky to get second hand one.

Take the drain plug out of the box and see what comes out in the oil,the bearings fall apart and wreck the box, there will be silver flakes in the oil and a tinge of brass floating in the oil.
