Hi everyone,
I don't have my clutch and accelerator cables yet, but I'm working on the pedal box, and I was wondering how the accelerator cable is attached to the accelerator pedal, using this 6,5mm diameter hole? I understood that the Capri clutch cable has an eyed end, (btw, can anybody tell me the diameter of the hole please?), and should be attached to the pedal by a bolt, but what about the accelerator cable?
Pictures are welcome too!
Thank you very much for your answers.

The Capri clutch cable is ideal it has an 8mm hole in that can simply be bolted to the pedal I used a small piece of tube on the engine bay side to push fit the white plastic thingy into I cut the nipple off the sierra accelerator pedal and welded to the new pedal I can now use the original sierra accelerator cable I simple welded a washer to a piece of tube for the cables bulkhead gromit to push into on the engine bay side I think you can see the pedal box on my Flickr account link below

My accelerator cable goes through a short piece of tube welded into the bulkhead by the pedal and pushes against a washer on the threaded part of the cable to set the tension. This is ok normally when the cable is under any tension but worries me that if the cable gets slack the end of the threaded part can drop out of the end of the tube and then catch on it- this could happen if the pedal is floored and released quickly. Ive limited this to a certain extent by using cable ties to restrict the movement of the outer cable but i will be fabricating a light bracket to hold the threaded section of the outer cable tight up to the bulkhead tube that can be readilly unbolted in case the cable needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Thank you very much, I'll make sure to find a system to secure this part too. But how do you attach the end of the cable to the pedal itself using this 6.5mm diam. hole?

I'm going to make a clevis (similar to radio control clevises)

Thank you Kev. I thought about it too, but how will you attach the cable end to the clevis? Actually, what I don't know is how the end of the Sierra accelerator cable looks like (pedal side). I tried to find pictures on Google, but it looks like there are different models. How is yours ?

However you end up fittng it make sure it swivels or it will snap the cable as Handy Andy found out with his clutch cable.

My throttle cable has a ball on the end, and I was planning to make/buy something like this to attach it to the pedal:

my sierra accelerator pedal had a nipple on the end of the pedal and the cable has a socket with a black metal clip if you use the nipple and socket it will rotate freely and will be close to the origional so no specialist cables required i will post some pics of mine on my flickr account later

on mine it has a ball and socket joint ball on the pedal and socket on end of cable.....if I can go with this system in some way I might use it as is
here is a picture from the drivers footwell looking at the top of the pedal ...the ivory coloured thing is the socket the ball is obvious.

search google images for a universal cable end....and you will have lots of ideas from them.

Thank you very much to all of you for the details and the pictures. I had looked on pictures of accelerator cables on Google, and I was wondering what kind of end was this plastic piece . Now Kev and mgglep, I understand it fits on a ball-nipple :).
But without the donor car, I think I will have hard time finding this ball-nipple piece that looks to be found on the original accelerator pedal. I can plan for a ball end cable and a clevis as Skov, very clever, and it looks quite easy to do out of a folded and drilled 1mm steel plate, or drill the plastic socket from the Sierra cable to fit it with a bolt through it. Anyway, I see clearer now.
Thanks you very much again.

Small correction on this one for anybody who will read this thread: the Ford Capri clutch cable eye is 6mm and not 8mm. As I drilled my pedal before having the cable (my mistake :(), I now have a 8mm hole to fit the 6mm eye... don't know how I'll sort this out... any ideas?

Hi Sylvain.....weld up hole grind back and re-drill to correct size

Now the pedal are painted, I'm going to waste everything if I try to weld the holes now :( . But thank you for the advice.
But I I have an idea : you see the crimped collars ("ferules") of my brake lines? They have a 6mm inside diam and a 8mm outside diam, with a small flange, so I will cut 2 of them 10mm long, and use them as hat-spacers on each side of the pedal shaft :)
