Exhaust Mounting?

Hi all,

I got a motorcycle end can today, and I'm trying to figure out how to attach it to the chassis.
Does anyone have any ideas, or pics of how they done theirs?

A exhaust bobbin is mounted centraly in the valley of the pressed part of the clamp and the protruding thread removed.

The bottom of the bobbin fits into the flat strip that attaches to the chsssis.

Solid enough.

Ah ha. I was about to start a very similar thread.

How is that flat strip attached? Does something need welding into the chassis rails at an early stage - or is it another rivnut job (seems like kit cars are mainly made of rivnuts!!)

That exhaust looks very nice by the way!

Yeah that's all I did I used an exhaust bobbin from halfords about £2 then used an exhaust clamp and a bit of flat

the flat strip is bolted to the floot, you can see the bolts.

Thanks guys, I think that helps!
The exit on my can is quite short, and comes out at an angle which would make it difficult to get a clamp around it like you've both done, so I guess I'll have to come up with another plan.

In terms of position, pretty much every 7 I've seen has the can in roughly this position:

Would it look completely stupid if I positioned it futher forward like this:

If I put it in the second place the kids are less likely to stand on it / burn themselves on it getting in and out, plus it saves me a few feet of exhaust tube!
Just not sure if people will point and laugh if it's not in the more traditional location :rolleyes:

I remember reading somewhere about needing so much exhaust tubing from the engine for maximum exhaust efficiency can't remember what the length is though

I found a neat way of mounting exhausts on kit cars using the mini rubber mount from the middle of the system, I used them as below on the underfloor system on my old cobra but they would lend themselves to the side of the roadster like in skovs case.

Take the exhaust clamp and drill an 8mm hole in the middle

Thin down a 5/16 unf nut an push it into the clamp. Its not metric children.

Then screw the clamp onto the stud and bingo.

You will only need two rivnuts in the vertical tubes on the side of the roadster and no brackets are needed. The exhaust will hide the whole thing. Just trim off the excess thread.

bike cans also come with a strap normally. the endcan on mine had it as part of the can itself being oem. so i just made a bracket to fit that with a small rubber mounting tapped the frame so the rubber mounting is on the frame all the time and the bracket just slips on and bolts up.

The exhaust tube past the can will also get very hot
If your worried about your kids legs ( and I would be, very) make up a guard
