I got an email from KPD (kit parts direct) and i found these seats.
http://www.kitpartsdirect.com/item.php?sn=CUB2-R&site=EM270912
Price is good at 165 for a pair!
From what i see from the pics i think that the finish of the upholstery is not what we would call perfect.
Anyone tried these?

I think they are the same seats, i cant say for certain now but i know that kit parts direct used to be a sub division of kit spares trading under great british sports cars badge. I believe they still are.

I seem to have read that they split, Kit Spares is the GBS Ltd web shop, KPD is now a separate entity.

Thats why i wasn't certain if they where still the same. But the seats do look the same, probably sharing suppliers for some products still.

Could you please comment on their quality?
I am already stuffed with the super-expensive Triton "crackers" i have bought...

for £165 thay are good i think i have a set as wifey was not letting her bum get near a grp one!

ther is a few places you can get them from with all sorts of piping colours and go under a few diffrent names like mamba L7 you can get runners to match them too
copy of a old cobra seat by the looks of it

I have the ones from kit parts direct, they are are rip from fabbies narrows. Nice seats if a little narrow, only problem is that the captive nuts werent welded to a gripper plate, so they have cracked free inside the seat meaning my drivers seat now moves freely by wobbling it at the top, nothing a bit of resin wont cure though but somthing to be aware of with the cheaper seats. Passenger side has had very little use, and is fairing a little better, so it could be the way im getting in through the rollcage.

Again, 165 pounds for a pair of "problematic" seats are better than 300 pounds for a pair of problematic seats.

I looked at the seats available and it seemed to me not a lot of them looked very good quality. In my mid fifties I just couldn't see fibre glass being comfy so I decided to look around for some centre rears from a renault scenic.

Bought the first about three months ago from a Renault Scenic RX4 and been scanning Ebay for a matching one. The second has just been delivered .

£95 for the pair delivered.Top quality seats and runners. Perfect fit.

Cheers Adrian,I'll look into that. I just assumed that because it passed for Renault then it would for me.

You should be fine if the headrest retracts into the seat.

I may have to do something with the headrests because when they're down to less than 25mm gap the seat base to headrest distance may be to small. It's a small thing and I'll worry about it nearer IVA time.

They are. Very comfy and fold down when not in use. And I've got them for half the price of the alternatives.

The scenic ones don't really do it for me, but a good bargain.

I think these would look good, bit pricey though

If you go with cloth seats, mx5 and rx7 ones are easy and cheap to get hold of. I'm not sure how high you would sit in the car with them in for us taller drivers.

Still not sure what to get myself.

The MX5 ones are too wide unless you're willing to spend a fair bit of time and effort modifying them. They are very comfy though!

One question regarding the L7 seats.
The mounting points are the same with the Triton seats?
So if i make my seat mounts to fit the Triton, will i be able to fit the L7 seats without altering the mounts?

Picking up my seats this week.
I've gone for a pair of second hand westfield ones with runners for £130, they're my favorites style for padded seats so chuffed as long as they are in good nick! They even have white piping to match my bodywork so happy days!

DC shame you had problems with Triton ones on my last build I had some and the quality was top notch. I did hear and as said earlier a few companies have copied (taken moulds) from their design and in some cases selling them as Triton seats on ebay. I don't think Triton has made these for over two years, did you definately get originals?

Dies anybody know the dimensions for Smart Seats? I thought they might be an Option.

I've bought a pair of MX-5 seats and used an angle grinder to cut away a lot of metal that was sticking out and also part of the hinging mechanism. Seat and backrest were welded in a fixed position. It's tight but they fit into the book chassis. Sliders included.

I will get dimensions as soon as I find time to measure them in my friend's Smart ;)

EDIT:
OK - so Smart seats are 46cm wide (hard part), so I think they are useless without modifications.

Another helpful dimension - Smart steering rack is about 53-54cm (it was wet, and couldn't measure precisly without geting dirty) ... but it's definitely not a quick rack ;)

Thanks Loony, so at least we can count them out for good.

To be honest, Spud took me out in his car and I was surprised how comfortable his were even though they have no padding at all. Even they are quite expensive though.
