You'll really struggle to fit the standard unit under the bonnet, and although it's possible, it's not that easy to get the standard ecu to work outside of it's original car.

It's also really restirctive, so most people take the opportunity to release some more power. For the budget-minded, there's bike carb/bodies and megasquirt/jolt.

Hmmmmmm.... ok I take your point, makes good sense. Which bike carbs are people using? (make/model) and how close is the jetting for initial start up?

For the ignition could you use the CVH coil pack and control unit?

hi
as adrian suggests the ford plenum is very tall etc
if you want to use the ford ecu go for a pre pats one ie does not have the chip in the key that one is very easy to use you could make up your own inlet manifold and use the ford plenum but it does seem a lot of work to me

the permutations for fueling are endless the choice is really yours
but age of engine is the most impotant thing to consider ie;
you wont get a late engine through sva/iva on carbs you can only get a pre august 95 engine through on carbs post this date you,ll need fuel injection and a catalytic converter

you,ll need a set of carbs that have a choke size of approx 36mm or bigger cbr 600 upwards seems the norm
kawasaki z9 seem popular you will be best off with aset withthe tps as standard but the choke size is the starting point
a good starting point for jetting seems to be 140 for a 1600 150/160 for a 1800 and so on but you alter cams etc you,ll
have to have tuned on arolling road or diy with a wideband sensor

is it possible to use the 1.8 zetec clutch with the type 9 and the capri release bearing?

Yes it is - it's what Westfield use as standard on their cars, although some say you may get some clutch slip - hope not, as this is the set up I have!

hope he comes back with a part number for the release bearing as i will be using the same set up

According to Quinten Hazell, all Mk2-3 Capri's use the CCT132 release bearing, the only exception is the 1600 pinto up to 1978.

Type 9 bolts straight on as the bolt pattern is the same as all previous Ford engines.

1.8 Escort flywheel (much thinner/lighter than 2.0) with a pre 98 Mondeo 1.8 clutch, Capri CCt132 release bearing and it all goes together nicely.

I used ZX9R carbs, later ones with TPS, The engine started and ran fine with the standard bike jetting and passed SVA like that. Got mine set up at Bogg Brothers propoerly as the standard jetting gave me nothing above 4K

The BB settings were, mixture screw 4 turns out, needle one groove above middle, mains drilled out to 1.8mm.

And yes i belive the coil pack and unit from a CVH carbed engine can be used.

Thanks for all the feedback chaps I have now found the solution and bought a Kawasaki ZX9R engine! Always fancied the idea of a bike engined car. I don't know much about bike engines but never to late to learn. I got it for £260 almost complete, found the carbs, loom and all the other gizzmo's on ebay so we I'm all set.
Its going to to be quite a challenge!
