Any car that's been through the IVA, whether it be put on as 'Q' or new or age related plate, is classed as newly registered with the DVLA and doesn't need an MOT for 3 years - same as a new car. You should also find the insurance the same for all 3 if you go with one of the specialist insurers which you would probably need to anyway. Tis good in that way. In my opinion it doesn't really matter what type of plate you get put on, there used to be a stigma with 'Q' but i don't think that really exists now.....

Insurance

Not too sure about the tax - all my knowledge is internet based not experience at the moment - but I think a new plate is the same as buying a new car : ie no requirement for MOT for 3 years - but please ewait for someone who knows for sure!
I'm looking at the insurance thing at the moment (getting some quotes) so as soon as I know I'll send them or post them here.

no matter what plate you get, you wont need an mot for three years. Be very careful if your trying to get a new current reg, as tax is now based on engine emissions, but only for engines built after a certain date i think.

only thing i can think of reg's is personal reg plates.
Q's cant have one and age related cant go newer than the one you have.

moting Q's used to get a basic emmisions test as mot'er had no way of checking age but not sure thease days with computerised mot stations now? anyone?

should be tested to what everer you had at iva every mot but its been a while since i was a tester
