Check those bearings !!
 
personally, I would be more concerned about the condition of those CV bearings.

Looking at the 2nd picture, they look to be well rusted, any rust on a bearing surface will render it useless ;)

That said, it may just be a trick of the camera :)

Theare are dark areas in those pictures. There are no signs of rust (i would have thrown them in the bin if they were rusted) just some small areas of wear (the shiny areas on the outer races) from the contact with the balls. They are not new, anyway the came from a 20y.o. car but the wear is not big enough to justify spending 100pounds for a new set.
