HI
I hope he has made the rear wishbones 10mm longer:eek:

Tatey 17th June 2009 11:13 PM

He hasnt exactly stuck to the book so to speak... He accidentally bought locost wishbones and has used them, but in doing so he has had to modify the rear end by adding bits on. I've told him to get some pics on and ask if his mods will actually work.

Ash thats a great idea, & Ronnie i think you have hit the nail on the head with the idea of a "club", this surely can be taken forward, as it can run alongside the forum for those that "WISH" to be part of it.

If you need a small contribution towards the maintainance of the domain count me in. ;)

I am happy to assist in any way possible but I have to warn you, I am a complete & utter web moron  :o

AshG 18th June 2009 02:57 AM

i have to agree with adrian on the organisational side of things. i would be happy to run the club but honestly dont think i would have time to do it until my build is complete. i would also strongly suggest that any other person offering to run such a culb finish their build first.

if someone with a finished car wants to take on the idea i dont mind doing hosting/tech stuff but i dont currently have the time to organise events etc etc.

PIP (project in Progress) and FOR (Finished and on the Road)

The first (ten or so) cars that were built and on the road do have some pioneering status and deserve to be acknowledged as "our heroes". The same goes for their builders.
But we would like to see a growing number of followers. As has been said, many people have bought the book and are building anonymously, without participating in the forum. Maybe the shields shouln't be numbered, apart from the 10 golden ones.

I suggest that we start a list where everyone who wants to be known can add themselves when the build has started and when on the road.

Joining the list is a matter of copy/paste, adding a line and posting to the registre thread. So the list gets longer and no club has to be formed yet.

FOR-list
number/identity of car or builder/date on the road mm-yyy / some details
001 / Chris Gibbs / 06-2005(?) / Pinto 1,8l - HAYNES yellow, red stripe
002 / Frankie boy / 07-2007(?) / Yamabushda-greenblue-full race cage
003 / Dogwood / 08-2007(?) / cossie 300bhp-orange with go-faster stripes
004 / Spud69 / 09-2007
005 / Slimtater /

PIP-list
number/identity of car or builder/date started mm-yyy / some details
021 / Joe carpenter / .... / ....
022 / Eddy"Huybi" / 01-2008 / Pinto 2,0l, signal blue, trackday only

Jumping from PIP-list to FOR-list : erase your line in the PIP-list and add a line in the List of Heroes.

(Budget says the cheapest donor I can find)

this is just my opinion , if the Roadster chassis is the main focus of the build but needs to be adapted to make use of what "available " donor parts are obtainable due to location / availability then i,d say yes its a Roadster, after all the book "suggests" the donor parts to enable the plans to be followed from the book.
thats how i,d see it anyway.

My 2p worth, sounds a good plan.

I haven't had much time to contribute recently but would certainly like to get involved.

Andy

Hoybi 18th June 2009 09:02 AM

keep the 2 lists together please

Thanks Andy for supporting the idea and completing your entry.
It's best to keep the 2 lists as one item until it gets too difficult to handle as copy/paste
I hope that the 33 persons claiming to have started join the List.

Eddy, that is pretty much the info I was thinking of, but unfortunately what is above isn't correct.
I am also aware that we have partially hijacked HandyAndy's original thread (sorry!) so I think it will be best to start a new thread for the completed cars - perhaps admin can put it as a sticky on the Announcements section?
For those who liked the plaque idea, a taster:

HandyAndy 18th June 2009 06:14 PM

Slim, that looks very smart, nice one,

andy

flyerncle 18th June 2009 06:14 PM

Nowt wrong there,nice one!

Before I loose the plot all together can one of you kind gents post a pic of the rear suspension brackets as the rear end is not all finished and it's difficult to guage position of the brackets.Thanks.

dogwood 18th June 2009 06:26 PM

Hoybi 19th June 2009 08:06 AM

Chris Gibbs 19th June 2009 06:54 PM

This is a good idea, Slim's car was no.2 though......

cheers

Chris :)

slimtater 19th June 2009 09:20 PM

Should I be ordering 40 or 50 plaques? :D

At this rate, we will need our own field at Stoneleigh 2010!

HandyAndy 13th July 2009 09:50 PM

wow, just thought i,d check this poll.

 46 currently being built

2 starting in next few months

4 thinking about it

plus the 5 already completed :D

thats alot of Roadsters.

keep the builds going everyone, wouldn,t it be a great idea to have a get together at the Haynes museum ( they have a track too i believe ;) ) with 40 to 50 Roadsters, i,m sure even Haynes couldn,t deny us the day if we can get that many cars together

andy

spud69 13th July 2009 10:29 PM

What a bloody good idea that would me Andy....:)

teun 13th July 2009 10:30 PM

Iwill travel to england.:D

HandyAndy 13th July 2009 10:49 PM

well lets just say for discussions sake that by the summer of 2010, being optimistic there might be 30 completed Roadsters ( is that realistic or wishful thinking?), this woud give Chris the support to ask Haynes for the "Roadster Day" at the museum, including cars from abroad too, what a day that would be, might be worthwhile making it a weekend event.

So, taking this poll to the next step may i ask how many of the 46 current builders think they would be on the road by summer 2010?

i know this idea has been suggested before but i would like to push the idea & make it happen, & with so many cars now in progress i feel we can as a forum group achieve this.

would this be supported by the forum ?

lets make things happen eh? ;) :)

cheers
andy

Cyberbeej 14th July 2009 10:01 AM

count me in!!!!! sounds awesome!!!!

jasongray5 14th July 2009 10:44 AM

Im realy up for it! Would there be somewhere to camp. Or if there was enough of us we could probably get cheapo accomadation and have a few beers in the evening? Make a propper weekend of it?

mark 14th July 2009 12:14 PM

excellent idea  count me in!

Mark

Bonzo 14th July 2009 12:31 PM

I'll be up for some of that

Wouldn't like to say that I would have a completed Roadster by then :o :o

Would be a cracking trip though.

Easy drive for me too :D

Neil P 14th July 2009 04:51 PM

SVA re-test tomorrow. I'm hoping to be on the road before next summer!:D

PS: what we gonna do

HandyAndy 14th July 2009 06:45 PM

i,m not sure what facilities are available at the Haynes museum, i,ll contact Chris to ask him if he can contact Haynes to see if there is something we can do as a collective forum, & create an event from what Haynes would allow etc.
will keep you all posted via this thread, :)

andy

Spikehaus 14th July 2009 09:36 PM

I think they are quite keen on club events. I attended the Electric Car club meeting last year. Need to say, the MEV Pocket out shined the rest of the pack! So do we have any dates in mind? If so will reserve the Dorset Cottage for the week.

HandyAndy 14th July 2009 09:49 PM

i,ve pm,d Chris, who has asked Haynes about doing such an event, he will get back with any any info he receives.

i was thinking maybe sometime summer of 2010, tho it all depends on what Haynes say.

will keep you all posted with any news of an event.

andy

Talonmotorsport 22nd July 2009 07:27 PM

There may be more haynes roadsters out there than this forum belives. Do not forget that not every body that has brought the book, built or building a car has internet access or any interest in online forums.

mark 22nd July 2009 07:56 PM

This is very true i had a finished chassis before i broke my silence! and i bet there is many more like me, come on folk come out of the woodwork!

You can find the answers to most questions without the need to post up.

I started posting because they are a couple of people building very close to me and wanted to meet them to talk roadster and get a go in spuds finished car ;) Which i must admit was excellent :D

raceral 10th August 2009 12:34 AM

I'll add mine to this even though I have deviated from Chris's original concept somewhat, mainly because of the lack of finding a good donor car over here.
That said I still feel it is a Haynes roadster in my mind, so I added my vote.
Al:)

Andy, I only saw this reply last night. I must have been sleeping when following this thread.
