Its 100% Main Dealer Maintained and 18" Bridgestone Tyres, so you got to love it and be prepared to but your hand in your pocket often.

Not to mentioned the 10 L of oil poured into it this year for 6000 miles!

With that kind of oil consumption its almost half way to using as much as a two stroke:eek:

Spikehaus 19th October 2011 07:38 PM

The pistons themselves rotate, and the oily bits cannot be effectively separated from the bits that go bang.

Its what's known as a "total loss" oil system, it continually drips oil into the engine, and the oil gets used up at the rate of about a pint every 1000 miles.

Think maybe all the guys at work must been filling up with my oil!

You have to watch the oil level closely as it can run at 9000 rpm

Mitzy Delica for the daily driver and a 1990 Audi 90 quattro in mint condition with leather and aircon and a coupe quattro in the same red on an H.

Her indoors flies a 206 cc and the sprog carries the grandaughter around in a Beetle tdi.

My daily driver: Honda Civic 1.5i 1991. It's just tured 20 this month, so it can buy beer on its own.

I swapped the 1.5 mono injection for MPFI from the 1.6 model. Weighs under 900 kg, snappy and economical.

Wife's/family car -- a 2009 Toyota Corolla Verso 2.2 D4D

That's, basically, the reason why I ruled out red as a colour for the roadster. Two might be a coincidence, but three would imply something.

robo 7th January 2012 12:10 PM

Dont worry about it , I dont value a daily driver one bit as its just a to b driving. Cheap as poss is the order of the day and reliable. Her in doors on the other hand wont be seen dead in anything other than a new r/r sport because she is a kin snob. Toys thats different, many man pounds on loads of shiny engine bits and the like.

twinturbo 7th January 2012 02:48 PM

Wifes daily ( or was it mine ;) ) has now been replaced.

The Merc C230 was using far too much fuel given I am now doing a fair few more miles.. So it was sold and replaced with 52 plate Mondeo Ghia X TDCi estate.

Sadly the very reliable Merc seems to have been replaced with a less reliable car!! There's a few faults I was not expecting for a car with only 91K on the clock. My garage thinks the Dual Mass may need doing at some point although it could go on for a lot longer, and the Fuel pump or injectors may need doing as the car has exhibited a flashing glowplug lamp... Neither is a cheap job. But the car is nice otherwise.. Will replace with a X-Type or 525 Touring in a couple of years so just has to last that long and hold some value ;)

motomaniac 2nd May 2012 02:33 AM

ive got a knackered POS renault laguna......severely used and abused for the last 7 years....also

...yamaha 100 cc, rs or summat, its about 20/25 years old and all original
...CCM 600 rotax supermoto, big bore, ported flowed head, no airbox, race exhaust and uprated clutch, beringer front brake set up....
... Kawasaki GPz 7/11 streetfighter... 750 turbo frame, 1100 engine, various bandit, gixer,zx7r,aprillia, brembo bits on her... my pride and joy... been building for past 10/11 years... hope to get her on the road ( again ) this year....

none of em are actually at my house, and none are on the road at the moment, need to get the ccm sorted, need some fun and transport..lol... ive spent about £16,000 on the Kwacka, upgrading stuff over the years and bought the CCM so i had a ride, told the wife id leave it as standard ... £4000 later and i still tinker with it...... it doesnt bode well for getting a roadster done on a budget...lol...

TheArf 2nd May 2012 08:36 PM

Well we have just upgraded the daily runner from a Nissan Terrano to a Nissan Pathfinder, more thirsty than the Terrano but a lot more refind

Davey 24th August 2012 07:30 PM

Just to update this thread as our "fleet" has altered (and grown) since I last posted on this thread. We still have the Iveco Daily camper but we have replaced the wife's aging 2001 Focus diesel for a 55 plate focus diesel, proper bargain at just £2K. We've also added a short wheelbase 2 litre diesel 05 plate Ducato as a work van and I now own "Dierdre", a 1995 1.8IS "Gleneagles" MX5 in British Racing Green, this is to be next year's speed hillclimber and it was cheap as chips at just £700 with ten months ticket on it.

The Ducato (Duke) is very tidy for a van with 190,000 miles under its tyres and drives like a charm, the Focus drives beautifully too and with a new cam belt and air con regas its good to go. Dierdre has just had a new cambelt but is in need of a couple of tyres (watching loads on Ebay at the moment along with a few other bits n bobs) but feels quick and fun on the 200 yard driveway to my workshop.

D.

P.S. its called Dierdre 'cos its a hairdressers car innit?

twinturbo 24th August 2012 07:34 PM

My Update....

The Mondeo Killed another injector, and then 400 Miles later the DualMass failed.

The EGR also seems to be playing up and opening under cold idle which it's not supposed to do.

Davey 25th August 2012 06:48 AM

DMF is the work of the devil and quite possibly the most ridiculous engineering solution ever. Will you fix or is it not worth it?
