WoW Ayjay

Thats some fantastic progress you,ve made , car is looking great

May I ask....are they the side repeaters or side reflectors fitted to your side panels ?
Reason I ask is come IVA time they may not be high enough for the rear vision check, I,ve heard that some cars have failed with them fitted to the side of the scuttle as the rear wings obscure the repeater , & yet some have passed

Looking great

cheers

Nice ally work.

And good progress.

Cheers guys.I've just been plugging away quietly in the background:)

I thought I'd stick those pics up to encourage others who may be flagging a little at the mo judging by the recent posts.
In other words--"If I can do it--- if you feel in a bit of a rut with your build then take heart"

The orange bits on the ali side panels are reflectors-- it seemed like a good idea the ind. repeaters will go on the side of the scuttle.
Its been a bit of a slog and sometimes its been one step forward and two steps back.ATM I cant get the brakes to bleed . i had a leaky master cyl. which filled the drivers side floor with fluid whie I was on holiday and stripped all my paint.
Then my battery leaked acid all over the scuttle and into the passenger footwell. The pic.shows no. 2 scuttle panel ready to re- fit all the electrics.

Anyway-- does anyone know if I can use any other ford m/cylinders to replace the sierra one without rerouting my pipes?

deezee 16th July 2012 09:10 AM

Looking good Ayjay, If we ever get any nice weather this year I should really get off my lazy ass and drive down to see your build. I had my Sierra master cylinder leak from the cap which also promptly ate all the paint off my pedal box & chassis rails :( I feel your pain!

monsterob 16th July 2012 12:27 PM

About to order my suspenders:eek:

From reading earlier posts I think I need

4x 14"-9.5"

2x 8" front 350lb

2x 9"rear 250lb

AmI correct?--I dont want to get it wrong.I am on haynes book chassis with 1.8cvh engine sierra front hubs and sierra rear with drums.

I spoke to Rally design and was told 140/095/ B12.

However they said it was either blue or yellow springs:mad: because of the relevant rating:confused:

I was hoping for 1st choice black 2nd choice red

Hope this doesn't open a can of worms

voucht 17th July 2012 10:58 PM

Very good progress Adrian, your car looks really good, congratulations (and I can see the flexi brake lines ;) )

Why not ring up Dampertech? That's what people used to do on here before Saturn started offering Protech shocks.

Protech will sell dampers directly too. Procomp (on LCB) also sell Protech dampers modified to their spec. Gaz will probably supply their dampers direct too as well as getting them from RD. Lots of options :)

Nearly there. Two years ago this week the notion of building this sprang into my head. Started I think Nov 2010 Needs tarting up and making IVA friendly .Also dash needs finishing(Anyone got a suitable piece of perspex they feel the need to dispose of would be greatly appreciated.

deezee 14th August 2012 04:57 PM

He Adrian, I've got a spare piece of perspex left over from when I put my sierra instrument cluster into the dash. I'll dig it out and make sure its not marked.

voucht 14th August 2012 05:48 PM

Congratulations Adrian. Your car looks very nice.
I really like the aluminium bodywork where it is possible , which comforts me in my idea to do the same on my car.
And only two years for this result I'm very impressed (and a bit jealous too :))
Very good job!

TheArf 14th August 2012 08:35 PM

Its looking well tidy mate I will give you a bell during the week and pop up to catch- up

ayjay 14th August 2012 09:58 PM

Dualist 14th August 2012 10:39 PM

Looks bloody nice mate ;)

ayjay 16th August 2012 01:17 PM

Anyone know the size of the circlip which retains the speedo cable on a T9 gearbox?

I put it away carefully as recommended in the book,in a little bag marked "SPEEDO CIRCLIP" -----Darned if I can find the bag:o

Just looked on fleabay £5.00=£2.00 pp --You're aving a larf. Wont buy one on principle

ayjay 20th August 2012 08:47 PM

I'm thinking of buying a sporty steering wheel for my roadster off the bay
I'm using the original sierra column.Would any other makes of boss fit the sierra or are they all different?

jps 20th August 2012 09:11 PM

Not a clue - although i'll appreciate it when someone who DOES know the answer comes along.

Just had to post to say that your car looks great in those pics. I'm just about to take the Sierra engine out so I can do a trial fit in my chassis - seeing pics like this keeps reminding me how good it's going to be when I get it finished!!

ayjay 20th August 2012 09:41 PM

Thanks .I'm just tweakingATM(fiddling with unimportant bits) and considering how to get hold of 50 odd wife pounds for IVA .Probably next Spring now:(

deezee 21st August 2012 08:10 AM

I have a Momo Steering boss on mine, with a OMP wheel. Just need to make sure it has the little notch in it for the indicator cancelling. (unless you're not using the sierra indicators on the steering column)

Momo, OMP, Sparco, and a lot of others have the same bolt pattern. Some hubs even come with 2 different patterns and fit most of the wheels on the market. So choose your steering wheel first, and check the bolt pattern (which brand it is, or with the seller), but I'm 99% sure it will be this Momo/OMP pattern. Then you can find the hub. Rally Design has a full range of collapsible OMP hubs, most of them with the blinker return (check it, that can be important, I had one without it on my Renault 4, and it is very annoying!)
The only problem is if you choose a large "retro look" steering wheels: the central part is huge, and will not fit the sport's steering wheel hubs.
You can also post the link to the steering wheel you want to buy, and I'll check, if i can, which hub will fit.
Hope this will help :)

ozzy1 21st August 2012 09:13 AM

In regard to the circlip just buy a multi pack from b&q and there should be one in there that fits, should only cost couple of quid.
Most aftermarket companies do a steering wheel boss still to fit the sierra.Usually a few on what.

ozzy1 21st August 2012 09:16 AM

Should say Ebay not what! Bloody phone.

ayjay 21st August 2012 03:29 PM

Thanks for the help all.

I'm also wondering if bosses for other makes of vehicle will fit my shaft.

robo 21st August 2012 06:19 PM

I was looking at these but not sure how they get on with the iva/sva thing. Adds a bit more security and helps to squeeze in and out.:o

You might have a chance with other Ford models, but normally, steering wheel hubs are sold according to an application list where you have almost 1 part number per car model. I think the best thing to do is buying the hub for Ford Sierra, and no other, so you are sure it will fit.
