I would love a trip mate. Maybe we should sort out another evening in the pub. Looks like the last one has shut down though.

If you need some ballast..........;)

Should have done this ages ago, fitted a small car fire extinguisher on the seat back between the seats for very easy access.
Have invested in a new gear knob and it has a secret function .....it is a wimpey passenger ejection seat button:eek: cleverly disguised as an engine start button, the pyro's I bought from the North East Aircraft Museum and are good for 100ft.... need your own chute tho....this was another reason for fitting the fire extinguisher ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Its looking awesome kev have you had it out for a play yet how is it on the road gotta arrange a ride out with you sometime
|
Few bits of metal, metal glue on a roll and hey presto,Little Red Roadster !
Does look canny cushty Kev.;) |
I finally have all my bits to be able to fit my water/meth injection which will allow me to run at roughly 20 psi boost, making this all a rough fit at the moment as I want to enjoy the car this summer and then over the winter a dash re-hash :o will be on the cards with a new speedo and gauges, got the speedo but awaiting delivery of the gauges
![]() ![]() Vmax ....just let me know when you fancy coming up |
"This summer " what do you know that we dont ?:p

kev i will dust my goggles off and come up in the next few weeks when the forecast is right
|
Roadster? Red Missile.........
|
Just a little tip for anybody who is at the stage of routing pipes/wires down the t/tunnel, it would be a wise decision to add a few extra wires that do nothing but go from end to end of the chassis, I knew I was going to fit water/meth injection at some point but thought it would be an easy retrofit.... WRONG was I If I had put them in when it was easy to do so it would have been a breeze.......SO if you plan to retrofit stuff later on say after IVA don't its a right PITA
|
got some el cheapo gauges from China and I am pleasantly surprised at how clear they are even in daylight I have just mounted them in a rough pod fashioned from a blown vinyl torque wrench case and mounted so I can see them through the steering wheel, oil temp, boost and oil pressure, my state of tune means these are the most important ones to monitor.....apart from the rev gauge which I seen hitting 8k:eek: recently, (stage 2 map does away with the 7.5k rev limiter ):)
anyway this is what they look like ![]() ![]() |
they look good for cheapies, where did you get them?
|
here you go Mike
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-52mm-Boo...em 3ce1dfe80d they work pretty well too....delivery was a respectable 2 and a bit weeks which ain't to bad from China. |
|
they look well tidy Kev
|
E-Bay or Heath Robinson Ltd .:p
|
Thank you!
Thanks Kev for the spin in your roadster last night!
Im still grinning from ear to ear. That is one seriously ballistic car.. I now think i need to strap a turbocharger on my engine now! David |
Arf.....they aren't half bad are they !
Paul.....both Dave.....glad you enjoyed it mate ....it is a little on the evil side, and you can't help smiling from whichever seat your in. |
I am afraid in my quest for "Mo Farrah" av gon an blawn me terbo:mad:  ..... my boost had been set way too high and the bearing could not cope, so I think I might have to detune my engine until I can build a more robust set up.
Tub is beyond repair as compressor wheel is damaged, so I bit the bullet and ordered a chinese copy as there is no way I can afford even a reconned tub, came yesterday so I will get some pics of it up later. |
Can you get high capacity/high pressure oil pump for that engine,if not shim relief valve for a bit more oil pressure to feed turbo and rest of engine better.
Turbo's fail because people never let them spool down after hard driving and it was probably well used prior to you,bit of a bugger after all the graft :( Rebuild kits are available but would you trust something that's got to run at silly revs and heat without being set up properly, No. |
I have a nest of new turbo`s here Kev. They came in a job lot of other kit. I will take some pics and if there is anything you fancy let me know.
Bob |
Awesome Bob might be handy to have a spare
Paul....it was a rebuild by me bud but I think I pushed my luck way too far, I always idled it down tho.....when you say shim it I'm guessing that would be a smaller hole on the return that would increase the pressure around the journals, but I suppose the risk there would be oil seals, they would be needing to be the uprated staggered type |
Find the relief valve, there should be either a plunger or ball with a spring behind it and this relieves the oil pressure by bypassing it,if you increase the spring tension you increase the oil pressure as it takes more to lift relief valve, oil seals should be ok as the increase is not forced against the seals to any degree they just seal the crank/cam etc against the oil floating about in the head etc (if you get my drift)

CORE he he:D :D ......wish I could get packages like that, I think if I was looking for even more mo farrah the T3/T4 would have been perfect but I am obviously set up for T2 (GarretT28) and even more so because of the custom down pipe I had to re model ....will send a piccy of my buggered one so you can see if any of the 'little uns' look similar ......looks like you are going into the re-core or intercooler trade;) lol
cheers Bob |
Good news guys....I is back on the road again and I am shocked to say that the chinky tub I got is actually better than the Garret I had and at only 1Bar, I had some hesitation around 5k before that is now gone and pulls really smoothly right up to 7k so I am delighted so far.
Bob....I will get the photo of my old tub up when I find me bleedin camera. |
Wingate,we have lift off...........
|
Ok...not been doing much tinkering lately as I have been having a whale of a time blasting allover the place and really enjoying the roadster, I cannot believe how well it handles 2nd and 3rd gears are absolutely evil, but thanks to my early decision to try and keep a bit more weight at the back end has paid off in terms of traction of which it has heaps but can be easily made to let go when I want it to and not when IT wants too.
The only mod I have done is halorize my headlights with some very bright led rings which were a perfect fit over the glass lens, I have them wired in to be daylight running lights which seems to be the craze at the mo...you will have excuse the fly splats. ![]() ![]() ![]() Will be taking the car off the road at the end of the month so if the NERDS fancy a get together ...perhaps with mine and Davey Bolams car as well, it might benefit those still or intending to build. I am sure there will be one nice day/weekend left in this month. ok I will leave you with a puzzle ....the following templates will lead to an addition to my roadster......see if anyone can guess. ![]() |
Looking good kev. I would be up for a meet (further north this time)
David |
i would be up for a meet up too would be good to see both cars side by side
the puzzle kev. are you making ear trumpets cause your roadster has damaged your hearing and its the low cost solution to a hearing aid? :p :D |
Rectal funnel ?:p
|
Cant/wont promise anything but it might be possible to arrange a blat up and down the runway at Eshott/Felton if NERDS are interested.
|
Ok seems enough interest will start a new thread tho.
|
About time I put some effort into my upgrades....those cones things I made from paper were templates for cone things in perforated stainless steel to slip into my current silencer set up which re models it into a laminar flow silencer, what this does is it smooths out the turbulence/spiralling of exhaust gasses and produces a straight flow out of the exhaust, it also increases the scavenging effect because of the increased speed it produces, I have also found it quietens the exhaust note substantially which is a bonus because my car was loud.
If you google laminar flow silencer you will see what I mean. will be documenting my dash build soon from some gorgeous twill carbon fibre and epoxy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I'm looking forward to the dash build. It's something I would like but I've not got round to finding yet.
|
Well here we go then Steve...first of all I sat down and thought What am I going to use.....mdf again....no, too heavy ....Ally... no, too wasteful.... I wanted something easy to work with.....standing in my back garden and looking at my roof (cannot remember why) and the answer was staring me in the face...FACIA BOARD the more I thought about it the more it made sense... hdpe with a return on the bottom that will stregthen that part. Another real bonus ....cost,
£13 for a 2.5m x300mm and leaves me with loads spare to experiment with. I have also discovered it forms very easily with a heat gun so wheel arches and such will be easy to fabricate and a front splitter (you were right Paul) Anyway first part I started with was my instrument binnacle, So this is a work in progress ....first pic is where it will be situated ie replacing these gauges. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Does her in doors know part of the roof is missing,if you need inspiration contact Kev !
Nice one,I have seen some kit cars fitted with small wing like aerofoils on the nose cone that looked usefull and yes the splitter will help. |
