Welcome to Blue Peter !:p
Your talent is wasted :D |
Jus spent the last 3 days getting through this
Fair play hope mine ends up half as good as this. |
Ho hum....been a while since was on here even though I look every day ....well my engine went through a complete rebuild this year including honing the cyls then new rings and fresh ACL race bearings throughout, been great for a few months...then on taking Vmax out for a spin, promptly snapped my timing belt. Have got a Gates belt to refit but have not yet discovered if there is valve damage, pretty sure there will be but before I yoke the head off will fit new belt and carefully turn engine over to see, as it is an interference engine I would consider no valve damage would be nothing short of a miracle
Fingers crossed for you Kev
Hope its ok kev
not good after all that work , fingers crossed for you
Bad crack Kev,make an adapter out of an old plug and 1 cyl in turn shut the valves and pressurise cylinder to see if it leaks, may save you loads of graft.
Don't forget to put it in gear or engine will turn. Good luck. |
what was the prognosis on the engine??
TT |
Ahhhh, as feared a snapped timing belt, but I must be the luckiest guy around as it seems only one pair of valves had "kissed " the piston. When I leak tested the head there was no leaks, not convinced I took the valves out and checked the in a lathe with a dti and got .02 deflection, I can live with that, so it is back together this time with a Gates belt. Just finished putting the dash back in yesterday so MOT before the end of the month so as to tax it for June...whooooop.

Decided to change the look of my rear so a new set of ebay lights replacing my shabby £2 set I had before....also managed to salvage some nice stainless steel from a patio heater to make some nice rear wheel arch spats/protectors

Looks like you are another photobucket victim K4KEV as the images do not show. Nice to hear of you progress though :-)
Yikes PB is now total sh*te so changed to flkr only the link has to be clicked to view.....are there any good "image hosting" sites similar to PB where the image shows up on the page?
I like the wheel arch protectors Kev - may have to do something like that on mine :)
Yeah stainless steel is so easy to get a hold of now....you just need to buy a pedal bin from asda and you have your material and already curved, just need to "uncurve" it a bit once cut
Now there's a coincidence.....I have a similar item in my garage awaiting the air shears!!:D
Well guys I cannot believe I am about to do this but my treasured painstakingly built Roadster is now up for sale at £10k, I know this sounds like a lot for a Haynes but then mine is a bit special with a crazy horsepower turboed engine and lots of new things added that I have had lying around in the loft for years, like larger power bulge bonnet, diffuser apexi gauges honeycomb grill etc etc
will try to get a spec up soon https://scontent.fman2-2.fna.fbcdn.n...1e&oe=5A9948FA https://scontent.fman2-2.fna.fbcdn.n...32&oe=5A9AFBDB https://scontent.fman2-2.fna.fbcdn.n...38&oe=5A993B6E |

More seriously Kev', I hope you are OK selling it and it is not by necessity. We all know here that it is a very fine and very special built. So good luck! One question : it looks like you have "Clubman" Corbeau Seats, is that right? On the paper, they are 495mm wide. As the seat room is 450mm wide on the Raodster, wow could you manage to make them fit please? I'm looking into the possibility of changing my Cobra seats for another model, but there are not a lot of options out there. Thanks! |
Hiya Syl just feel it was time to move on mate I want a laser cutter and loads of other stuff and I have had a great time with the beast but I got more enjoyment building her than driving ....yeah the seats needed a little "shove" on the upright parts then they fitted fine albeit a little tight, but they move back and forth ok

very detailed description now in announcements under haynes roadster for sale
Ok been a while but decided to put the roadster back on the road this month as a prelude to getting 13 months mot on it in a week or so.
Also decided on a few upgrades first one being a nosecone scoop to direct cool air towards the air filter. The part I used was a vac form of a mini bonnet scoop I had lying around that I made into a plug, the great thing was by using 1.5mm PETG it was pliable enough to "mold " to the roasters shape, although it was not far off any way. After cutting the excess from the vac form I was able to see where I needed to cut into the nosecone worrying thing to do but worth it after all cut out and fettled I sprayed the scoop black and fitted it with double sided tape then glassed it in on the inside, the finishing touch was some chrome trim that had just the right thickness to match the edge of the scoop. If anyone wants one I can do them for £18 delivered this would be the whole vac form it would be up to you to trim ( relatively easy job) any way here are some photos ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I decided the roadster was due some carpet so the latest phase was to start with the passenger side, already had a roll of black so that went onto the side and trans tunnel then I had some old Primera matts that I trimmed and used on the floor, then finished off with a piece of stainless steel on the "door top"

You will be putting in power windows and air con next ;)
Lol TT actually I have a few caravan windows that are going to be "manipulated" to give me a taller aeroscreen and some side deflectors as I am getting sick of being buffeted .....powered ,alas not, but if I could!!!!

How are you getting the edges finished so well Kev - they look brilliant!
I binned my old bin after it sat outside for 5 years waiting for some use...
TT |
Ha Ha....I throw nowt out ....my missus does her nut because I need to check everything she throws out and my "that might come in handy someday" skill kicks in.....a few years down the line I often say to her "remember when"
Got to though it is a nasty habit because I do keep a lot of rubbish. |
Hi kev what size alloys do you have is it 17" or 15" or what size are they. I also see you using the ca18det engine and I plan on using one aswell what is your thoughts on that engine
Hi Ricky....they are 17" with 205 50's and fill the arch's beautifully, The CA18DET is a fantastic engine that will take stage 1,2 and 3 with only programmed chips in a normal ecu....I did have it at stage 3 but went back to stage 2 as it was more controllable/predictable, for loads of info join Driftworks and SXOC they were invaluable for prepping the engine loom and tuning tips.
Take care with the trans tunnel at the gearstick area as it needs to be a little wider to accommodate the passage of the two large flat nuts either side of the gearbox, they are indent springs for the gearstick to "spring from side to side". Everything I did to fit the engine is there in my thread, just takes a while to find it lol. |
