Right no updates for a few weeks, still waiting on laser cutting and to get my exhaust back so I've got a little side project to keep me busy
Ive been after this for about a year as it's been sitting in a blokes yard, he finally sold it me last Saturday afternoon I borrowed a trailer to get it home on, but it weighs about a ton so we had to strip it to get it up the garden! The bed took 4 of us to lift and so did the stand Gearbox was mint Loads of bits to clean up |

Build is looking very good Ross and lathe is a stunner now it's painted!
How are you planning on stopping the pedals from falling forwards? I only ask as I have now got to the stage where I am finishing my pedal box, I've found the polymer bushing with 8mm bolt through it to be a poor pedal pivot solution when used with the bent brackets to stop the pedals falling forward. You need to the pedal pivot bolt loose otherwise you end up clamping the pedal to the pedal box but the bent brackets need the pivot bolts tight to provide enough clamp load to prevent them from rotating. To solve this I'm going to make some crush tubes (1/2" OD) to fit inside the bushes (drilled out to slightly larger than crush tubes OD) which are slightly longer than the bushes (about 0.5mm either side), meaning the pedals will rotate about the crush tubes instead of the bolt. This is the same method used for the suspension bushes but I'll have a bit more clearance between the crush tube OD and the ID of the pedal bushes so that its a smooth pedal movement. I'll let you know this weekend if it works as expected :D. |

I believe it is a requirement, but not 100% sure, however you really will want front pedal stops as the pedals fall forward really easily which could get interesting if you're out driving.
I wouldn't recommend welding the pedal stop to the side mount as you then can't adjust it meaning you might end up with a lot of travel before getting tension on the cables or constantly tension your clutch/throttle. I've seen others that have welded stops onto the outside of the pedal and used bolts through the floor the same way the brake pedal works. I made the mods to my pedals and it works a treat. |
I used these olive bearing bushes with a stainless crush tube and they are perfect. Stiff but still easy to move as they are self lubricating.

As above they are the same on mine and work a treat, you can force oil into the bushes too.

A bit of an update tonight, I was looking on speedhunters today like I do most days, and they decided to do a little wright up with some pictures I sent in
http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/03/...owered-builds/ It's about half way down Next on the list, the lathes all finished Also I'm back on my pedal box, should get it all tacked up this week Clamping the sides up square |

that pedal box looks amazing, keep up the good work :D

Lathe and pedal box are looking good Ross!
One quick question, it's probably the angle of the photo, but will you be able to fit a cap head to the bottom master cylinder mounting holes as the brackets look a little close? |
Now that is a fine bit of fabrication if I do say

Upper seat brackets done, I no the top edge doesn't need a radius behind the seat, but it looks neater I think
Just need some side to side spacers sorting and some correct length bolts Next throttle cable sorted and temp return spring and the studding through the top is a temp forward stop Full throttle |
Clutch cable
Full clutch I made two tubes to hold the outer cables Next job, the rest of the roll cage, I've decided to mount the front hoop on the outside, as bashing my leg on it all the time not my idea of fun I mocked up the scuttle panel, and worked out a mounting plate The tube will mount to a bit of tube on end with two more bolts so it meats msa spec, once the front hoops in place I will sort my roof bars and door bars out |
Dude, still mighty imprressive. Makes mine look like it's being built in a cowshed.
ATB Dan. |
Daren't put any pics of my poorly built badly engineered thing on here, it'll be compared to this engineering master piece.
Brilliant bit of work Rosco - not that much different in build progress to mine really but I want to get mine on the road for 2016 kitcar show, fancy a race??? :) |
Awesome work, looking forward to seeing how your roll bar works out as that is something that is really playing on my mind
