Looks awesome

Fab looking car. If mine comes out anywhere near that I will be a happy bunny. Silly question, the rollbar, is that designed for the fibreglass rear end and if so does it not have two brace struts. If everyone else is reading this and laughing, sorry, I am new to this.

Hi John,

Thanks, the 2 cars do look good together, Spuds car being finished & on the road & mine.......well.........it,ll be finished for this summer :o :D

Do you mean the back braces of the roll bar on my car? if so, then I have yet to fit them, I purposely waited until I had my seats so that I can weld in the cross brace at the correct height for the seat to seat belt upper mounting point, as this is specific to height from seat squab etc etc for the IVA test.
Once the cross brace is in I,ll be welding the back braces into place, tho mine are in a different position to that of Spuds car ( personal preference ) as they go from the bend of the roll hoop down to the outside corners of the chassis base.

The back braces on spuds car are as book spec when fitting an ali rear tub but spud adjusted his GRP tub to accept them.

My own car has different rear chassis arrangement which is to accept the GRP tub, which is how your kit will be supplied.
hope this info helps?
cheers

AshG 20th April 2010 08:33 AM

come on andy time for a picture update on here.

HandyAndy 16th May 2010 11:30 AM

Hi All,

I,m back, I won,t go into a lengthy comment but would like to thank you all for your amazing support in the last few days, & all the PM messages, my inbox is full & i will reply to each & everyones message, please bear with me.

Right.......

Yesterday I spent what i can only describe what was a fantastic day working on my car, Thanks to Spud,s help, I,ve now got my car back at my mothers garage as i,m spending alot of time there ( personal family stuff reasons ), anyways.....Spud dropped my car off at about 9am yesterday morning ( Thanks Spud) & i spent the whole day working on it, yesterday i did the following....

mock fitted the rad ( need to make permanent brackets)
cut the coolant hoses to correct length
fitted the new rad fan purchased at stoneleigh
fitted & plumbed in the oil catch tank purchased at stoneleigh
Tidied up the wiring ( enclosing it in the split conduit stuff)
mounted the relays & fuse box to the engine bulkhead

with info from "Marks" IVA feedback i,m now wondering where / how to site the "secret" master kill switch, it is fitted into the electrics & works a treat but not sure where to conceal it.

Whilst fiddling with the electrics I must have somehow disturbed a connection as when i tried to start it = it would turn over but wouldn,t fire
I must,ve spent a good 2 hours looking for the reason to this
found a stray wire with a spade connector....hhmmmm " this must fit somewhere" ....finally worked it out, fitted this wire into where i thought it belonged ( i must say " me & electrics don,t mix" ), turned the key & whaheeeyy she is purring like a cat, albeit a noisy one.......must make up my exhaust system

all in all a very productive day :)

cheers
andy

Tatey 16th May 2010 12:08 PM

It's really good to see that you've managed to make some more progress on your build Andy. How long do you think it will be before you are ready for IVA?

Bonzo 16th May 2010 12:09 PM

Great news Andy :)

Tis certainly nice to hear that you have found some time for your build

Souds like you had a great days work yesterday, pitty about the electrics playing silly games as they tend to

Hopefully you'll soon be back on track & counting down time till the IVA ;)

HandyAndy 16th May 2010 12:25 PM

Thanks Tatey & Ronnie...

To be honest, yesterday was one of the best days i,ve had on my build, I truly got stuck into it, with recent events .....working on my car was a "Real Tonic" that i needed , when i locked up the garage at the end of the day I was "buzzing" with enthusiasm for getting the car finished, thats the beauty of building the car, sometimes its nice to go in the garage & shut the door behind you & enjoy the "Space "

I,m aiming at having the car ready for IVA for August, & hopefully get a couple of months fun with the car before winter :)

Ronnie........electrics are the work of the devil :D .... tho very satisfying when it works.

cheers
andy

spud69 16th May 2010 12:35 PM

Well done Andy, tis just what you need and, as i kept on saying yesterday....:D , you can crack on with your build so we can have 3 orange roadster blasting round the north east.

Certainly will have been Tangoed then.......

The thought of You, Mark & myself going out for a drive in our 3 Tango Roadsters will soon be a reality, that will be a great sight to see, tho.....I still have the idea of attaching a tow rope to the back of your car so I will be able to keep up with you :D

cheers

twinturbo 16th May 2010 08:19 PM

Excelent Andy,

I too was using split corrugated conduit to tidy up engine wiring yesterday, but that was on the MK1 Golf. It's more or less ready for MOT for the first time in 3 years and makign the garage available to finish My Sapphire off....

HandyAndy 3rd August 2010 09:00 PM

Its been a while since I,ve updated this thread, so thought I,d do so by asking for your opinion on the following please........

I,ve been busy fitting my bodywork recently, & I can,t decide...........

Originally I had Tango Orange arches but fancied a change :D So with a great big thankyou to Spud at Saturn I now have lovely polished black arches .....Thanks spud :)

I need your help please guys......which photo/fitment looks the best?

The first photo is of how I believe they are meant to be fitted ( tips of the wings at the bottom edge of the side panel & the rear tub), this creates quite a gap between the tyre & the arch......or is it just me being picky?

The second photo shows the wing approx 1 inch lower than the rear tub...

Which way should I fit my arches?

cheers
andy

twinturbo 3rd August 2010 09:05 PM

I think Pic 1

Enoch 3rd August 2010 09:05 PM

First one's best - I prefer the look of it with black arches, it just works for me with the black interior. That is looking well sexy. You seem to have a lot more ground clearance than me - is it just the angle of the photo or is yours higher at the back than the front?

David_17 3rd August 2010 09:06 PM

Didn't you say your rear shocks were too big at the moment, so the ride height is slightly too high?

Fit like the first pic, then when you sort your suspension, the big gap will be gone ;)

HandyAndy 3rd August 2010 09:14 PM

cheers guys......

Enoch..... thanks for your kind words.......sexy looking until I get in it :D
I think David 17 has hit the nail on its head here, I think my rear shocks are too long, they were given to me by a fellow forum member, originally fitted to a "Dax", maybe its this that creates the extra ground clearance.......... I wonder if Spud would notice if I "borrowed" his :p

David17..... Thanks mate..... I think thats what I needed to hear :)

cheers
andy

David_17 3rd August 2010 09:16 PM

Happy to help :)

I'm sure spud won't notice lol. :D

Bonzo 3rd August 2010 09:24 PM

Picture 1 for me too Andy :)

As said, check the shock lengths out, may be something you can do to reduce the rear ride height ;)

HandyAndy 3rd August 2010 09:27 PM

here,s another pic from a slightly different angle, the rear wings in this pic are as in pic 1.

Cheers Ronnie,

I,ve got the rear shocks setup as low as they will go, just before the spring loses any tension on them,
looks like I,ll need to get the correct length rear shocks.... birthday, christmas, birthday , christmas prezzies maybe :D

cheers
andy

David_17 3rd August 2010 09:42 PM

Does look very sexy :)

twinturbo 3rd August 2010 09:50 PM

like the indicators

HandyAndy 3rd August 2010 10:16 PM

Cheers Dave , I think the black arches really bring the car "Together", a nice contrast with the orange, glad I decided to do the roll bar black now too :)

Cheers TT...... the indicators are on with thanks to Ash for donating his extensions to me

Another question to ask............. should I paint the orange part of the rear tub thats inside the wheel arch to black?

cheers
andy

twinturbo 3rd August 2010 10:28 PM

No, keep it as it is.. Otherwise it's going to look a bit like mine but orange rather than (secret)

;)

Twin 3rd August 2010 10:31 PM

as for colour...... ;)

mark 4th August 2010 12:26 PM

Fit them flush as your first pic, as you have already established your shocks are too long so it will sit better when you get the correct ones

Ive been meaning to paint the inside of my rear tub where you see through the arch black but after 1200miles its not orange in there anymore!

Looks good with the black arches but im biased as i have the same!

I liked the contrast between the orange and black so much i went for a black scuttle too

spud69 4th August 2010 01:33 PM

Looking good Andy, does look much better with the black front and rear wings on - as does most dark colours.

AND YES i would notice if you took / borrowed my dampers especially with a track day coming up next week. But your dampers are way too long will just have to splash out.

HandyAndy 4th August 2010 05:08 PM

Cheers Mark & Spud

Mark.....1200 miles already ???? so you are enjoying your car then? :D

I,ve fully fitted the drivers side arch now, I,ve fitted it as you all suggest, basically the rear tub & drivers side arch is now fully fitted , I,ve rivnutted the tub to the chassis & bolted the arch to the tub, all stainless steel bolts & nylocs , its starting to look wide now LOL.

Spud..... hmmmm I quite fancy those new Procomp shocks, the all singing/all dancing ones....

Twin...... I took your suggestion.....avatar now updated:)

I was thinking of just having 2 for now, for the rear of the car, then save up for the front 2 later on :)

I had left my phone at home on charge, just checked it.... thats great thanks Andy.....that,ll be another job to cross off the list...finish the dashboard:cool:
