As always
Cars looking really sweet buddy.
Hope you're going to put a wheelie bar on that cus that's the only thing going to keep your front wheels on the floor...LOL:D

jasongray5 25th September 2012 11:16 AM

This is without doubt my favourite build!

Eternal 6th October 2012 04:33 PM

Just looks right! :) The car has 50mm lowering shocks and springs but the trailer made it quite a bit more.... saying that it drove from Dorset to Bristol with no probs at all!

Eternal 13th January 2013 04:19 PM

Hello all!

Just a quick msg to let you all know I'm back!

Right today made a massive list of all the jobs i need to do. Along with stuff to buy lets just say its not a short list!!!!

If anyone around the Bristol area can tig weld ally please let me know as i need some help with my plenum.

First port of call is to get the fuel lines and brake lines installed. Need to work out the best size of fuel line and best way to fix them.

Anyhow look forward to posing some more updates soon! Until then here is a pic of its current state.

Oscar 13th January 2013 05:00 PM

Had a nice long break then, other commitments or lost enthusiasm for a while?

I had a slow couple months before december, put off by the amount of cleaning and painting needed by the chassis! Short break makes all the difference.

I'm looking forwards to seeing some more progress and ideas that I can steal! :D

Eternal 13th January 2013 05:05 PM

Well i just moved back to Bristol and had to spend over a week non stop work on the car to get it ready to move after that i wanted to let the pain really harden for a while so decided to leave it till the new year before starting on it again.

Trying to work out what type of ECU to use i toyed with the idea of leaving it stock but i dont like the factory wiring and all the diagrams are in Japanese as that engine and loom is an import. Soo i think I'm going to go the MegaSquirt route as i have built one before for my old Corolla AE86. Boy have they gone up in price!

My main goal atm is to get the thing running. So Fuel lines hoses and electronics are top of the list atm along with break lines. I'm thinking 8mm fuel lines but not sure about all the sizes as some people have said 8mm ID and 8mm OD.

wylliezx9r 13th January 2013 06:52 PM

Good to see you back ,the forum has been really quiet due to a spam attack. I'm currently converting my car from bike engine to F20C vtec, when I was looking at ECU's I settled on Omex in the end as none of my local rolling roads would touch megasquirt.
Best of luck.

rapidtornado 13th January 2013 09:19 PM

8MM needs to be the OD of your copper tube so it's the ID of the rubber tube :)

Eternal 13th January 2013 09:33 PM

I see just worried that 8mm OD will be around 6.4mm ID and not sure if that will be ok with a 300bhp forced induction car running a 255 walbro fuel pump.

From what i have seen on alot of the skyline owners clubs and forums 5/16 (8mm) id is good for around 300hp

"Up to 250 HP = 5/16" or -04 AN
Up to 375 HP = 3/8" or -06 AN
Up to 700 HP = 1/2" or -08 AN
Up to 1000 HP = 5/8" or -10 AN
Up to 1500 HP = 3/4" or -12 AN"

Something like this.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aluminium-...item416896387e

AshG 13th January 2013 11:03 PM

8mm is good for 350-400bhp easily. i have a 10 bar 300 lph 15mm inlet 8mm outlet pump on mine it then gets regulated down to 3 bar at the fuel rail.

if you get really stuck welding the plenum up then i can do it for you but its a bit of a drive up to kent.

AshG 13th January 2013 11:08 PM

p.s make sure whoever welds up the plenum uses 4043 tig rods as they have extra silicon content in them especially for welding cast ali, if they dont use them likelihood is that it will crack at some point leaving you at the side of the road.

Eternal 13th January 2013 11:12 PM

Hi Ash thanks for the offer of welding i might have to take you up on that if i cant find anyone local. Its a little bit of welding... but i wont be able to get the thing running without it :(

Soo i guess i would need copper marine fuel lines with an ID of 8mm and then -6AN fitting i think...

K4KEV 14th January 2013 12:20 PM

hey Alex.... nice to see you back with the beast ....its hard to get back into the flow when you have had a substantial break ..keep the piccies coming

Eternal 20th January 2013 08:08 PM

Moving the car to a new garage on Sat so will be able to start work again. First job is to remove the engine and gearbox and get all the brake lines and wiring done. After that get the engine/gearbox painted and fit flywheel and clutch. Think i will also get a new exhaust manifold and make things look nice. Kev has inspired me.

If i can find about 1.5k i think i can get the engine running in the next month.

Eternal 25th January 2013 08:19 PM

Moving garage tomorrow hope all goes well!

Had to spend 3 hours in the snow today trying to pull a trailer out of the snow only to find that it had a wheel seized. Eventually dragged it onto the road and spent the next hour getting the wheel unstuck. :(

Eternal 26th January 2013 10:21 PM

New garage and also inlet plenum mostly welded!

Eternal 27th January 2013 06:47 PM

Intake plenum welded and installed and all fits! Cam cover breather pipes relocated to rear. Have a small amount of finishing to do but apart from that its all good!

Wiring harness for 300zx and Stagea RS4 along with ECU for both. Also a R33 GTST starter/alternator loom and various other bits. Ohhhhh its going to be so much fun............

twinturbo 27th January 2013 06:59 PM

Looks like a reasonably sized and very tidy garage!

TT

Eternal 28th January 2013 08:06 PM

Stripped down so i can install all the fuel, clutch and brake lines along with wiring :D

While out will give the engine a nice clean up and try and make it look good as new.

*MISSION - Make engine look as nice as Kev's.......*

*MISSION - ACCEPTED!*

flyerncle 29th January 2013 04:00 PM

Better contact the CAA for your pilots licence, your gonna need it.

Nice one !;)

K4KEV 29th January 2013 08:22 PM

might need to go to NASA for some training:D

flyerncle 29th January 2013 08:25 PM

Differences training at least.....

BORNXenon 29th January 2013 09:11 PM

I love this build, just for it's sheer lunacy! :)

Eternal 29th January 2013 09:20 PM

Just started to install the fuel lines to the rear.... Have a couple of questions if anyone can help! HELP ME! lol

Phone ran out of power so will have to post some pics tomorrow some time.

flyerncle 30th January 2013 06:12 PM

If you want lunacy, look at the Lucra car in the states.

My pal does the electrics for it,5/600 bhp 900kg need I say more......

Eternal 30th January 2013 08:31 PM

Humm how does that look to you guys? will i need anything to hold the fuel pipes apart or will they be ok like that?

Eternal 2nd February 2013 09:52 PM

Engine paint update #1

A few hours later and £30 in drill bits >_<

Johno 3rd February 2013 10:16 AM

Looking sweet as usual
Any thoughts how you are going to vent the fuel tank?
I guess she's going to be pulling the fuel out of the tank pretty quickly:eek:

Eternal 3rd February 2013 01:50 PM

The tank has a breather hose welded onto it. I will have a one way valve to allow air to pass into the tank but not allow fuel to come out. I think that should world ok.

Engine starting to look clean!

robo 3rd February 2013 05:15 PM

Nice to see the build is back on track:) I see some kev inspired painting going on:p . Looking good.

Bob

Eternal 4th February 2013 07:02 PM

More engine cleaning :D

Soooo.... any of you guys think this kind of clip on the rubber fuel line will be ok? Thinking of having a ally nut welded onto the tank hold the fuel lines still and stop them flopping about.

Johno 4th February 2013 09:18 PM

Hi Eternal,
I guess I should have known about the fuel tank vent breather pipe for some unknown reason:rolleyes: Very similar tank to mine...:)
I know you mentioned you are going to fit a one way valve to prevent vaccum but are you also planning on fitting a vented fuel cap?

If you do weld a nut to the top of the tank keep it as near to the fold as possible as this will help prevent distortion to the top of the tank.
Would it be possible to make a bracket from the Mazda fuel tank sender cover picking up two of the bolts, just a thought.
Anything you weld to a fuel tank increases the risk of a leak or failure in the future.
Also I know you are aware but IVA requires an earthing strap from the fuel tank to the chassis. Iguess you could do this from the sender flange as well.

flyerncle 5th February 2013 08:42 PM

Agree with johno,it would be a shame to clag something on the tank, would it be possible to fix the pipes down to the securing strap when you fit them.

Eternal 5th February 2013 09:00 PM

The securing strap does not go anywhere near it. Trust me the threaded ally tube would be welded on nice. A friend near me is a professional welder and he can do it. I don't see any other options apart from letting it float around in the air but I'm sure Mr IVA wont like that much.

robo 5th February 2013 10:06 PM

A blind rivnut would do that job. Installed with a drop of sealer it would never leak, just thoughts.

Eternal 23rd February 2013 11:42 AM

Full car wiring loom arrived today along with the complete Digi Dash.
Also complete ecu/engine/starter loom (hybrid of 300ZX, R33 GTST Spec II,Stagea RS4 and R34 GTR)

Eternal 24th February 2013 03:43 PM

Need a smaller steering wheel cant stand the sierra one. Don't suppose anyone knows of an IVA friendly one that's a good fit?

ayjay 24th February 2013 10:03 PM

I 'm sticking with the sierra s/wheel for now then the world is my lobster(:p ) post IVA
