I aim to confuse daily........:D

I,m sure this car of mine likes living in the garage too much

when you think all is well, it goes & does something to wind me up .....snapped the clutch cable now ( & yes it was a new cable when I installed the engine) ok, I know its not a major setback but it still means more time to sort it out.

Tho, thankfully my local motor factors let me rummage thru their old stock of clutch cables & I think I,ve found one that will fit, its an inch longer than my Capri one so will fit it tomorrow, might need to make the adjuster longer by creating a spacer where it passes thru the bellhousing, its from a P100 so hopefully all will be well & driveable again tomorrow:)

Still got an issue with my oil temp gauge, might ditch it :D , oil pressure all ok so happy with that, I just wanted the extra gauge to even the dash panel out :o

cheers

Good question

In the bible the rear lower wishbones are shown fitted in 2 different ways....page 44 fig 4.16 shows 1 way then on page 74 fig 5.32 shows them the opposite way

I chose the position from page 44, after looking at other builders build pics etc & also thinking of any possible torsional tension the bones have when car is under load ( tho this was purely my own interpretation of the effect ) when travelling forward, as the car won,t be in reverse that much etc etc :D

Hope this helps, & being totally honest would also appreciate any thoughts on this, interesting question:)

cheers
andy

tringle front single leg to the rear that way the single tube at the back is under tension and will not bend and the tringle (linked at 2 chassis points) is under compresion when the hubs are pulled forward under driving force.

that make sence?

After seeing Carl,s car go thru the IVA earlier this week it gave me some much needed motivation to get myself out in the garage , thanks Carl .

So...

apart from the following she,s finished ( at last i hear you all say )
center mirror ( on loan to someone else at mo )
Bonnet catches ( can,t decide which to use , Dzus or the rubber ones )
Edge trim on front wings ( on loan )
The rubber covers over track rods / steering extensions ( want to check tracking etc before final fitting of the rubber covers )

Positive or negative comments welcome please guys

Sorry Andy. had this come up on LCB last week, you have done what i thought was right in that the front wing must be level with the front of the tyre. looks as if i was wrong according to the link below, if no work search LCB for wings. i have emailed you a pic. new fangled tech not my scene. :(

Mike.

HandyAndy 21st August 2011 04:03 PM

Thanks Russ :)

Tho I must say I couldn,t have done it without this forum & all the help from all forum members , 2 years ago it was a "pipe dream" that I thought would never happen.

Building my car has been a roller coaster of ups & downs but thankfully I kept at it ( again with support of many friends from this forum ) & she,s finally finished .

Just the last hurdle to go  :D

Well done Andy, just one more fence to jump & your build will be on the road  :)

K4KEV 21st August 2011 04:19 PM

Crikey Handy I didn't think you'd been on with this for 41 years:eek: that must be a record of some sorts......you must have started it when you was a bairn
hurry ups an get it in before winter, oh and looking good fellow nerd.

HandyAndy 21st August 2011 04:23 PM

Thanks Ronnie .....well if all goes well at IVA it may well be making a trip to your neck of the woods soon :)

Andy

Have you ever thought about selling your digital camera on the " Antiques Roadshow " :) :)

Mind you, that said, it takes a decent photo :)

twinturbo 21st August 2011 04:37 PM

Let me know when to get the bacon in and the kettle on ;)

More inspiration for me to keep plugging at it.

looks spot on Andy.

Andy your car looks great, did we find out if the rear reflectors need to be vertical, im sure someone mentioned it to Carl last week.
What did you end up doing to cover the tub/ side join??

HandyAndy 21st August 2011 07:18 PM

Ronnie .....setting the date on the camera is you know......technical for me :p

TT ......Cheers Rob, mmmmm I can smell the bacon butties from here , would be a great drive out over the top of the A66

Steve.....Thanks for your kind words about the car :)

After the various opinions regarding the position of the rear reflectors I,m still not sure if I need to reposition mine, I know of other cars that have used the same testing station that I,ll be using that have gone thru ok with the reflectors in the same position

I,ve used some flat rubber & edge trim to make a join between the rear tub /side panel joint, seems neat n tidy :)

Now I,m thinking whether I should drive it or trailer it to the IVA test, be good to bed the brakes in etc .

cheers
andy

bertie_bas205 12th December 2011 05:00 AM

HandyAndy 12th May 2012 07:34 PM

Its about time I gave a final update on my build

Well, finally, the IVA is booked but I,m not saying what the date of the test is , other than, its VERY soon ...gulp lol.
I,m gonna be like a "father to be" in the maternity ward come the day .

I,d like to publicly thank EVERYONE from this forum, as in some way you have all helped with my build, reading & learning from other members builds & experience, honestly, I couldn,t have done it without you all, thanks guys .

Ash was at my place today & has took some great photos ( with a decent camera compared to my cheapo camera ), so the photos below will be the last ones I,ll put on the forum until I have the number plates fitted .

Hope you like the pics.

& an "arty photo"

twinturbo 12th May 2012 07:41 PM

Very Very Best of luck, Are you going to Beverly?

TT

Tatey 12th May 2012 07:43 PM

Looking good Andy! I remember coming down to help you paint the chassis all those years ago, it must nearly be 3 years since then!

Best of luck for the IVA!

The V8 Files 12th May 2012 07:45 PM

Looking good, best of luck :)

HandyAndy 12th May 2012 07:54 PM

Thanks guys :)

TT....yes I,m going to Beverley, & I,m driving the Roadster to the test :)

Tatey.....yes that was many moons ago indeed, & as I,ve said....so many have helped in my build along the way.......painting the chassis aaaarrrggghhh LOL,

Dad of seven, thankyou, I am & in a weird way not looking forward to the test day.....gulp.

Stood reading the book in Halfords one day when I was "window shopping " seems so long ago now, & looking at & driving my Roadster, its a weird feeling knowing that "I built that" ( with lots of help from alot of people ), the sticker on the rear tub reads "Roadster, built not bought" :D

Lets hope we have a decent summer :)

cheers
andy

Ditto all the above, from humble beginings, RIP VPL ;) reborn .

Good luck Andy.

Spikehaus 12th May 2012 10:19 PM

Andy,

From a fellow builder who started building the same month as you, I wish you the best of luck. The papers for my IVA are filled in and ready for posting. Just the final trim to sort out to keep the IVA man happy. Its been one of the best things I ever decided to do. I have not been as active on the forum as you, but cannot question your dedication to keep this place going. I wish we had a few more builders locally with finished cars to give me a few tips.

When my car is complete, I plan to go on a road trip and come up your way to see the car in the flesh.

Fingers crossed Mate:)

Forgot to add, I am getting married 10th September in Glasgow, hence why the build had slowed down even more!

adrianreeve 12th May 2012 10:36 PM

Andy

The very best of luck mate! As another long term builder that's nearly finished and ready for IVA, I feel your nerves!

Look forward to seeing the finished article!

Cheers

Adrian
