Wishbone made of box section?
Hi, I have just noticed that Rally design do box section wishbones for the locost & they are really cheap. Is there any reason why I can't make one's from 20mm seamless box section with a 2mm wall ? I am mainly concerned about clearance issues as the area is a little bigger. Assembly should be easier as well. I hope !

Hi are you on the Facebook group if not you should join maybe you can get more answers there . But to answer your question I'm not entirely sure but think seamless tubing I think is a bit over kill cause here in south africa they race them and they use normal 1.6 mm round tube and they happy with it

Thanks for that, it's appreciated.

Sorry but no, Rally design's wishbones are not made of box section tubes, but "Flat Oval Section" tubes, which is completely different. DAR002prod by Sylvain ROIG, sur Flickr ERW_Welded_FS_Oval by Sylvain ROIG, sur Flickr A lot of wishbones are made of flat oval section tubes tubes, as they are more aerodynamic (I know, not a major issue for our seven-like car!), and also, look neater than round tubes. Honestly, I have never seen box section wishbones, I'm not sure it exists, so perhaps there is a good reason for that. And, if it has any importance, it will not look good either (imho :) ). And I as said above, seamless tubes might be a bit overkill, but I would use at least ERW steel tubes for my wishbones. Hope this will help :) |
Thank you Sylvian, that's spit on thankyou. I may try the oval tube to be a little different.

Thank Jason,
If I has to redo my wishbone (or build another Roadster  ), flat oval section tubes would definitely be my choice too :) . |
What is the size used on that over pipes is all the wishbones the same or what

I'm sorry Ricky, it should be my bad English, but I don't understand your last question. Could you please reformulate? (some comas and dots might help as well :) )
Thanks. |
