No New Users (temporary)

Until we have cleaned the database and installed the new software upgrade no new members can be accepted. This may not be completed until the New Year.

This is because spam bots and human spammers have been able to circumvent the manual approval process for new members.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

If any would be new members need to ask a question in the meantime then they can always sign up over on Ronnie's:

http://www.roadster-builders.co.uk/

I'm sure members of both boards would be happy to post questions on their behalf :)

Well it seems to be having an effect,

I have started banning old spammers again ( it became pointless with them just using new names ) when the post. So should tail off totaly.

In all honesty TT I don't envy your task, looking at how many dormant ones there are you'l be at for a while

At least from now on each one you kill off as they pop up is a step forward instead one forward and two back :)

Best of luck with it.

Alga, prob not really my place to say so this is just my opinion, from how I see it yes, and although you could make a good guess at who's genuine/spammer to do that could mean alienating a genuine user which wouldn't be good.

To be honest IMHO with where it is now, gradually killing them off as they emerge is the only way to go, which means still a little pain to come but heading in a positive direction for the forum.

It is finally heading in the right direction so that's fair enough, Admins lack of earlier intervention has made the situation far worse than it ever needed to be though.

Whilst the new users is turned off here new potential builders should come over and log onto www.roadster-builders.co.uk where we can answer your questions and you can introduce yourselves till the problems over here are sorted

We have hit some complex issues with updating the forum software which means the whole process will take longer than initially thought.

Because of this we are opening the forum to new members BUT visitors wishing to join will have to apply directly to the Haynes webmaster by email. The address is on the haynes.co.uk Contact Us page.

This a bit laborious but it should keep the spammers at bay.

Thanks for the update, the torrent of spam has reduced considerably since banning direct new user signup.

Good luck with the upgrade.
