Pinto engine and gearbox weight

Hi, could anyone tell me the approximate weight for a pinto engine and box.

I'd guess at 100kg perhaps? They are hard to lift!

Ease to tune: - Easy as they are well established and also easy to work on for the DIY'er

Upgrades: - 150bhp= Kent FR32 cam, gas flowed head, twin 45's. 160bhp= as before plus Kent FR33 cam

Availability: - Relatively easy to find as plenty of Sierra's still about. Approx £950.00 to rebuild

Gearbox fit: - Standard Type 9 from Donor car

Overall: - Very cheap option with plenty of parts available, very robust engine. Exhausts on right which limits swapping engine at later date. Slightly on the heavy side.

Type 9 is 31-33kg

Thanks for the replys great information will be really helpful,a guy over the road has an engine I think is suitable that he does not want, I thought we could man handle it but will use some form of lifting aid now.

tip it over to slide a sheet of ply under it and drag it across if its only over the road. You would be amazed the weight a couple of guys can drag on a piece of ply.

A wheelbarrow works too. That's how I have shifted mine - engine and gearbox together although it's easier if you split them. Not difficult to get them apart. Might not do wonders for the wheelbarrow though...

Great engines, got one in the Westfield on twin DCOE's :) just about bomb proof except for the odd oilway problem. They are affectionately known as boat anchors for a reason tho :eek:

I have a number of wheeled dollies for my engines to sit on. Very usefull. Just have to watch they don't tip off!

Yeah I have my engine and box on an old crate trolley.

Makes it really easy to move around.

My Type9 was 39 kg dry. Including the gearstick.
