Wheel sizes

Whats the smallest wheels that have been fitted to a roadster, i have seen some nice alloys from a mk escort 13" and quite good condition

PorkChop 22nd July 2013 08:32 PM

You are limited to 15s on the Sierra, 13s will fit on a 1600 braked MX5 build.

twinturbo 22nd July 2013 08:33 PM

with standard sierra type uprights most alloys have to be 15" or bigger.

TheArf 22nd July 2013 08:41 PM

Thats a bitch they realy look good too grrrr

snapper 22nd July 2013 10:19 PM

You can get 13" on front uprights but there is a problem with the fabricated rear upright bottom bolt
You could engineer this problem out

alga 22nd July 2013 11:18 PM

Agreed, there probably is more than one way around this. But they mean custom rear uprights, wishbones or both.

14" steelies:

TheArf 23rd July 2013 08:34 AM

I have only just fabricated the uprights and don't fancy taking a step back, ah well just wasn't meant to be, and they look so mint Grrrr

Ok I have been back on the bay and found two sets of refurbished wheels
1. Wolfrace 5 spoke 18" ET 40 7.5 J 4 stud £150
2. Cosworth style 15" ford fitting £160
can have them delivered for £25 but as they are not far from me I think if I have them I will collect and then I can inspect them before paying for them

any thoughts guys

I think 18" will give a harsh ride in a roadster with the low profile tyres you will need and the tyres are expensive, especially compared to the abundant 195-50-15s.

But god they look good

PorkChop 23rd July 2013 09:05 PM

I reckon any 18s would look silly.

jps 23rd July 2013 09:47 PM

are the cosworth ones the 5 spokes with quite a rounded profile on the spokes? I'm on this look out for some like that, I think they will look good.

TheArf 24th July 2013 07:18 AM

Those are the ones and they have been refurbished and powdercoated in grey quite tidy

Arfon

rpjg1975 24th July 2013 07:33 AM

I have the same style wheel on my focus atm, they are the 16" ones though, three guesses where they will be going :D

TheArf 24th July 2013 08:28 AM

Now that's a difficult one

Arfon

jps 25th July 2013 09:45 AM

If I can get some i'm going to do them in white to match my bodywork...

TheArf 25th July 2013 01:41 PM

Well had some bad news today the guy with the 15" refurbed Cozzy wheels
sold them last night.
I had some good news today, the same guy has just refurbed some 16" cozy wheels and is putting them to one side for me to collect on Saturday and at the same price as the 15" wheels

rpjg1975 25th July 2013 03:14 PM

Happy days arfon

TheArf 25th July 2013 03:30 PM

Arfon

rpjg1975 25th July 2013 05:54 PM

Dont blame you. Really common size tyres too if they are the same as mine

TheArf 26th July 2013 02:02 PM

Well fingers crossed that these wheels are as good as the guy says, I have just spoken to him they have been put to one side for me until tomorrow so need to get there early

Got the 16" wheels today they have been refurbed and tidy looking.
They are not 100% but you only notice the slight imperfections if you realy look close up so they are now sitting in my office safe and waiting for tyres.
Paid £160 for 4 escort cozzy wheels in dark grey

rpjg1975 28th July 2013 07:03 AM

Cool, have to get up a pic mate

TheArf 29th July 2013 08:31 AM

I will have to ask Ayjay, he seems to be a wizard at posting photos I'm not that good with this computer witchcraft. If I cant machine it, weld it or drive it I'm *********

I've just 'won' a set of Escort Gti wheels on eBay which look very similar. £40 - but they do need a refurb!

TheArf 1st August 2013 08:38 AM

That sounds good, are they ally in colour and when you refurb them are you going to colour them

They are black at the moment, look like they've been sprayed and not very well - i'll find out for sure when I collect them from Watford! Here's how they looked in the listing:

I'm going to look at the cost of refurb before I decide whether to do them myself or not - but they'll be going white!

TheArf 1st August 2013 04:18 PM

They look very similar to mine, hard to tell from the photo but I think the spokes maybe slight thicker on mine.

Arfon

p.s. they do look good in dark grey

DaveyB 3rd August 2013 12:55 PM

On the subject of wheels

If 15 inch diameter is the best size what sort of width do you need 5.5/6 anyone suggest the best width.

Cheers
