I'd just like to say that I had excellent service and a quality product from Phil around a month ago (a set of wishbones).
Unfortunately some people seem to be totally out of step with any sort of reality these days, they seem to want everything for nothing and they want it yesterday. Keep going Phil, don't let the few grind you down ;) |
Don't want anything for nothing. I have paid for it. We agreed a price , no delivery, no update, no communication. What would be going through your mind if this happened Steve ? Yep. You guessed it, I have lost my money. Think about it.

Think about what Jason? I made no remark referring to you or anyone else. I was making general remarks based on my reading of Phils post. Any agreements and transactions between yourself and Phil are just that.
How am I to know you feel you have been "done"!!! |
No delivery date agreed mate. Didn't think I had to to be honest. Paid my bill as soon as I received it, And assumed that I would get my stuff in a reasonable amount of time with good communication. Is 5 weeks a reasonable amount if time ? Or in vmax case, is 13 weeks a reasonable amount of time with no parts and no communication ? I can't believe that some people think that this is perfectly acceptable behaviour from a company.

Is 5 weeks a reasonable amount of time? I think so, it's not like there are not a million other things that cannot be done on the chassis during that time. I too ordered a set of wishbones from Phil about 4 weeks ago. I remember reading somewhere with him or someone else mentioning it takes upwards of a month sometimes to get parts out. So that was my expectation, so I made sure to order the parts at a stage of building the chassis where I wouldn't need them right away. Is it ideal... well no, but at the same time, the guy is making me a set of parts that I myself did not want to have to make, and with that comes some sacrifice as well as cost. I'd much rather have to wait longer, then having Phil disappear like 90% of the parts builders, and leaving me wondering "Now What?" Just my thoughts, not saying your wrong to be mad, but in my book waiting on parts for my hand built car ranks as a "1st World Problem" and something I wouldn't stress to much about.

I fully apologise vmax. I have got you mixed up with the v8 files. So sorry. :D

Hang on in there Phil.
You are a really helpful bloke and someone who says what you mean. Dont let anyone tell you different. Ive got a bit of work for you when you are ready and if you want to escape for a few beers and a bit of a chat just pop over mate. |
In Phil's defence I must say that my wishbones where made and delivered in less than two weeks, the only problem I have is that the wishbone brackets I ordered a payed for where not in the package Phil emailed me and said that he had sent them to someone else by mistake, but I haven't heard from him since if you could get in touch at some stage and let me know what you are going to do about it that would be nice.
Regards Mick. |
I just made the rear upper wishbone that got bent in the crash. So easy and so much fun! Give Phil a breather, people, and make your own wishbones.

I met Phil when he dropped off my chassis, and dealt with him again for my mushrooms and rack extensions - He is a decent man, who is in a difficult situation.
It may be little comfort to those waiting for parts, but I have every faith that he'll get the parts to you eventually. He really isn't the type that would set out to fleece anyone and I will be placing an order for some more bits once the pressure is off him a little. If he stops trading and pushing ideas, it will be a loss to our community Just my thoughts |
Agree with you 100%.

my ten pence is that pritty much every one i have spoke to speeks of talons quality and service as good. i even know of other an ex roadster part supplier that speak highly of his work
the work of phills i have seen in the flesh is of good very good quality and is clearly form a skilled welder/metalworker and i think his prices are very fair. i know if i needed somthing for my car in the future talon would be at the top of my list to buy from if i was not makeing it myself. and for the record i dont own any talon products and have been very greatful of his support that he has made no money from! he also made a very kind donation of a chassis and wishbone pack for free into the cristmas raffle charity raffle i ran without been asked he is an asset to our commuinity Thankyou Phill for all your help and input |
No one doubt`s Phils engineering skills or that he is a nice bloke but his PR and customer service department is crap, emails and updates cost nothing. Anyway In my opinion his diff case is a no brainer and before someone gets hurt they should adopt this diff system ,mx5 build is a brilliant concept that needs a tickle here and there. this is one of those tickles.

What customer service department would that be ?
Having been self employed for a while I can say from experience there is NO POINT AT ALL in giving people day by day progress reports when there is nothing concrete to report, it just takes away from the time that needs to be spent actually doing the job, producing something constructive. The only communication that is required by someone like Phil is to get the spec, agree a price and to arrange delivery- nothing else in necessary and we should not expect more. It's entirely right to expect on-going communications from a company with several staff, receptionists and a boss who ultimately watches the money roll in as a result of other people's efforts- BUT a one man, self employed operation is completely different, the only similarities between the two are really the trade they are in, death and taxes. You arent dealing with a corporate call centre, cut the man some slack. |
I was joking about the PR customer service department. I have met Phil and know he is a one man band, but if you take it that he might have two or three customers a week there can be little to no excuse not to keep them updated if things are running late. No one that places an order is that fussed if things take a little longer but silence is not golden.
