Classic Saloon

I'm thinking of getting a classic saloon that I can use to take the family to classic car shows.

I thought about a Rolls Royce Shadow (too ostentatious) or an Allegro (too austin-tatious). I've narrowed it down to a Cortina or a Dolomite, can you think of anything else?

It needs to be a 4 door and a cripple frinendly automatic.

Cheers

Chris :)

Stumped for choice if has to be orthopeadic(auto) otherwise my XR4i would be ideal as for some odd reason it's classed as a classic car for insurance so only £160 a year fully comp for a loon like me....:D

fabbyglass 3rd January 2009 03:11 PM

Princess?....fugly things but huge inside for lots of folk and stuff.

VX490(think thats what they are called anyway) Vauxhall if you can find one!

Mogworth thou?

Why not just get a Jag?

shadowcaster 3rd January 2009 03:15 PM

Depends how far back you want to go, if I were in the market for a classic would be either a Rover SD1 or Triumph 2000. Of course I woudn't say no to a Stag.:D

Chris Gibbs 3rd January 2009 03:38 PM

Hmmm, the Jag and the SD1 are a bit big, triumph 2000 is a good shout though - my dad had one o' them!

Chers

Chris :)

How bout a Ford Zephyr or Zodiac 6? plenty of room, classic styling and reliable too!

Chris.

got to be an 850cc minivan two doors in front two in rear and automatic answers all criteria:D :D :D

Classic car

I was going to say, Triumph Vitesse Or Tiumph Vitesse.

Then I noticed the 4 door, auto thingy. :(

Hows about the Triumph 2500 PI ?? , they were quite lively. :D :D

flyerncle 3rd January 2009 05:54 PM

I have a mint Audi 90 Quattro 4 door if you are interested but it's not automatic.

MCD 3rd January 2009 07:21 PM

What about a hillman avenger or a wolseley 6 or even a volvo amazon

shadowcaster 4th January 2009 10:13 AM

Nearly forgot this one a real Classic
I'll get me coat

dogwood 4th January 2009 11:03 AM

God that takes me back.....
Ford Classic.. My first real car..1970.

Had a Reliant Regal side valve before that.
Driving it on a bike licence..Them were the days.

Jezzer99 4th January 2009 11:49 AM

How about a Rover P5 or if you want something a bit more modern, the P6. The smaller automatics in the P6 drive very nicely and if you want some serious fun go for the 3500 :)

Chris Gibbs 4th January 2009 07:24 PM

I quite like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-DOLOMITE-SPRINT-WOOD-PICKETT_W0QQitemZ130279298959QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAu tomobiles_UK?hash=item130279298959&_trksid=p3286.c 0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1 318

Long way away though!

Cheers

Chris :)

Dolly Sprint

Nice looking motor Chris.

In spite of being an avid all things Triumph fan. The Dolly Was not one of my favorites.

Very prone to head gasket failure  .
Bit like the Rover K series engine. :D :D

A long way to go and a tad overpriced being as it is not road tax exempt (1973 or older ).

For me its the Triumph 2000/2500TC/2500PI all done in saloon or estate with an auto option.

Cant beat the sound of that straight six engine

Alphax 4th January 2009 07:57 PM

Alfa Romeo Guilia?
lovely car, plus if you want you can always upgrade it to Rally-standards......

Chris Gibbs 4th January 2009 08:26 PM

No Alfa Romeo Guilias on ebay.

The last one I saw had a tree growing through it!

They go very rusty.

Cheers

Chris :)

Chris Gibbs 4th January 2009 08:35 PM

There's this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-2000-RED_W0QQitemZ160307647953QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomo biles_UK?hash=item160307647953&_trksid=p3286.c0.m1 4&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A131 8

Looks quite good

Chris :)

flyerncle 4th January 2009 08:41 PM

Dollop of what ?

Bonzo 4th January 2009 08:58 PM

Close enough for you to have a gander at.

I wouldnt advise buying without first having a good look.

May be a good buy if it is a project car that you are looking for ?? ;)

The ebay user name cracked me up though. :D :D

shadowcaster 5th January 2009 09:29 AM

I was working in the parts counter at Mumfords when the 2000's Sprints and SD1's were new, seem to remember a few with overheating probs with some of the Triumph range. Happy days though, wondering when Red Robbo would pull the factories on strike, thereby delaying parts and new vehical delivery. Having a laugh when the "new" cars were bought in from the compound and having to drain a gallon or two of water from the inside:eek: , paint finishes blooming, quality control was not on the top of the list for BL back then. Having said that I still get misty eyed when I see an SD1 or any other BL offering from that era.

Meanwhile heres a handy list when looking to buy a Classic
