OK!

Maybe Chris have more details to give. The discussion at locostbuilders.co.uk are dead.

Is there any other single-seater that would be cheap to build?

londonsean69 5th October 2009 03:23 PM

There is another book, "How to build motorcycle engined race cars" or something like that.

But, it is not a set of plans, it gives design info etc. but not a parts listing.

As for cheap, well, they can cost what you like up to a point. Might be worth keeping an eye on Eblag for an old formula ford chassis or something

You could always message Chris and ask, although he might not be able to divulge any information (Haynes probably saw what can go out)

There have been a few delays, but the book should be out next year.

It's a steel spaceframe with GRP and aluminium bodywork. The prototype has a Honda Fireblade engine but the bay is designed to take most 4 cylinder motorcycle engines. The bay is physically large enough to take the Audi 4 and 5 cylinder engines/gearboxes (and possibly the V8) but I don't know if there'll be much detail for the car engines. The diff in the prototype is a Sierra unit modified to chain drive, I'm hoping to include modification details for the Ford escort/fiesta diff as well. The front and rear uprights are fabricated to take ford hubs.

The GRP will be available from Triton and 3ge are going to produce chassis parts and plates.

Cheers

Chris:)

Chris, do you know when? Spring, summer or autumn?

Chris Gibbs 6th October 2009 11:46 AM

I'd guess summer time but it's down to Haynes production schedules.

Cheers

Chris :)

HandyAndy 6th October 2009 11:53 AM

Chris - give us a little hint, SHS or CHS tubing?

I need to know if I am going to have to get handy with a decent tube bender:D

Sean

Chris Gibbs 6th October 2009 12:50 PM

It's square tubing, 25mm square mostly. Some of the bracing is CHS but you won't need a bender.

I'm toying with the idea of building a round tube chassis for myself, but it would be too complex for the average builder, and too difficult to detail in a book!

Cheers

Chris :)

Rena 7th October 2009 09:38 AM

Nice!

Just have to wait......:)

Rena 13th January 2010 09:01 AM

Anything new about the book or kit?

Pictures? Prices?

cealm 19th June 2010 07:21 AM

Hello Chris.

Have you any idea when I can buy your Singel Seater book? Waited for a looooong time.....

cealm 25th June 2010 07:29 PM

Not any idéa??? Summer, autum, vinter, spring 2011, 2012, 2013 or?

Sorry but I really want to know about the book-release.

Regards cealm.

cealm 25th August 2010 03:22 PM

It seems that there is a problen to get the book public. Is it not written yet or is there a problem between the writer and the company in some way. I dont think it would be ANY problem to print the book if it was ready.

Customer Services Co-ordinator say like this as an answer to my mail.

Thank you for your email regarding our title 'Build your own single-seater'
This title is not available at present as is not yet published. However, we should be releasing this towards the beginning of 2011.
I will hold your email address on file and contact you once the book has been released.
I am sorry for any inconvenience.

spud69 25th August 2010 04:08 PM

The last news i got Cealm was that the book is on the finishing stages with Haynes publishing process needing to be gone through which can take 3 to 6 months to complete.

There's a lot of us waiting for the publication but i'm sure it will come soon enough.

From a comment on the locostbuilders web site (i think) Haynes only do print runs twice a year. If you miss one, you have to wait. So, if they've missed the summer print run, we're waiting till 2011 to get the book. Bit disappointing as I had it on my 'wish list' for my birthday the other week :( Suppose it will go on my christmas and next birthday wish list as well :)

ps if a dyslexic proof reader is needed - let me know, I'll work for nothing (and yes the spell checker did find I'd spelt dyslexic incorrectly).

Chris Gibbs 27th August 2010 08:19 PM

There have been a few delays which have pushed the book back but it's hopefully going to be out early next year - I need to get the car through the IVA and then we need a production slot in Haynes schedule, it's quite an undertaking!

Cheers

Chris :)

Thats Spud !

HandyAndy 28th August 2010 08:22 PM

The piece inside the nose of the single seater doesn,t go with the single seater, its a Roadster rear upright that was just used to counter balance the front lower wishbones in the photo.

I took the photo :)

New saw is tickety boo  very pleased with it :)

As I posted above got loads done today and amazingly enough the rear end is all somewhere near much to my suprise and probably yours too, there is about 1/2 mm difference from side to side in the track from chassis sides.

If I knew how to resize the pics I would post them here.
