a question about the Roadster......

not counting suspension brackets or CP plates

can anyone tell me the correct answer?????? ( i do know the answer, )

question.............

How many tubes are in the chassis?
(counting RP1 RP2 as 2 parts )
basically the qty of the 25mm & 19mm box tube parts & the tubes for RP1 & 2.

if you do know the answer then don,t post it just yet please, lets see how many answers we come up with :D

cheers

It's a scary scary number when you're standing next to the pile of 6metre lengths with a hacksaw in hand.:D So I don't know yet.

Chris Gibbs 5th November 2009 09:28 PM

I know :p

Cheers

Chris :)

103 I hope it's less, but doubt it.

Tatey 5th November 2009 11:27 PM

Id say 89....

HandyAndy 5th November 2009 11:30 PM

no correct answer yet :D

andy

HandyAndy 6th November 2009 12:05 AM

sorry Adrian afraid not :D

like said, just the 25 & 19mm box tube plus the RP1 & 2 counted as 1 per part number.
no trick question, so roll bar/back stays are not part of the question.

maybe i do need to get out more :o :D

cheers

:D its all due to me making the chassis kits,

you are the closest to the correct answer ;)

andy:)

Bonzo 6th November 2009 07:47 AM

Not got a clue

I can only count to 20 & 1/2 when I am naked :D :D :o

Tatey 6th November 2009 10:31 AM

I'll change my guess to 127.

HandyAndy 6th November 2009 10:34 AM

"Landlocked " is the closest with his first guess:D

andy

AshG 6th November 2009 10:58 AM

count them as 2 tubes only as it is 1 piece of steel each side with the notch cut into it....:D

come on the Ash give us your guess

andy

Tatey 6th November 2009 11:45 AM

How about 107?

Land Locked 6th November 2009 12:13 PM

K, if the FF's are counted as 2 not 4 i'd have to say 101

Thank you, though 'twas merely an edumocated guess.

Yes throw us another.;) I don't wanna go outside n fix my mates car.(hate rattles in suspension)

HandyAndy 6th November 2009 12:35 PM

next question.......

how many actual cuts are needed to make the main frame of the chassis as per the parts in question 1 ?

now i,m getting really sad :o :D

andy

Beyond sad.:p

107 ? uhm no notches add a few, 111?

HandyAndy 6th November 2009 01:17 PM

i,m thinking each tube has 2 ends so that gives 2 cuts but then also all the other cuts such as the compound angles etc, so if it helps its over 200 cuts :D

the 3rd question is even more sad :o

andy

Bonzo 6th November 2009 01:26 PM

400 + cuts in my case

I square cut all of my tubes first ( To get the steel out from under my feet )

The angles were cut as & when I needed them ;)

Yep, there's a right way a wrong way & Ronnies way !!??

Tatey 6th November 2009 01:47 PM

Bonzo i cut all of my rails like that as it meant i had a flat edge to then mark the next piece up from. Im guessing 243 for the amount of cuts...Now what really would be sad Andy, is asking us how many mm of steel we had to cut through and the amout of steel removed by making them cuts...:p :D

AshG 6th November 2009 02:07 PM

doh went out to lunch and missed it all. andy i thought you was busy :D

Is that on a hot or a cold day Ronnie? :D

I knew the answer too, but then i should. If your talking chassis plates though Keith's your man, he knows them all off by heart.

Kind regards

John

20 & 1/8th On a cold day John  :D :D

alga 8th November 2009 12:49 AM

An interesting consequence of having 101 tubes in the chassis: you can estimate how many percent your chassis is complete by counting the tubes you have welded in place.

flyerncle 8th November 2009 09:50 AM

You all need to get out more !!!!!!:D

I was out, spent all morning in the garage, fixing suspension noises. (YUCK):o

Also had a good look at my garage roof, it's in a sad state.:( Going to have to do somthin about it before I start putting me chassis together.

Now just waitin for the fire to be ready so we can get some lovely bits of pig all cooked up.

flyerncle 8th November 2009 06:16 PM

Could be worse LL you could be freezing to death here working on VAG stuff !:D

accepting that no "cock-ups" are made there are 234 actual cuts to make the main frame of the chassis as per book spec :o

now who would like the really sad next question????

:o :D :D

andy

Land Locked 18th November 2009 06:09 AM

We know you're dying to ask the next one, so go for it.:D
