Look what I just made......
5 Attachment(s)
Hope no one minds me gloating, but look what I just built.:D :D :D Only took a few hours to solder the whole Megajolt kit together. Thought all those surface mount components would be a nightmare but they were quite easy in the end. Also the the shift light set and now just waiting for the hard rev limiter to arrive to finish the job off.

Nice one David, looks bloody complicated.

I realy miss the good old distributor, simple and easy to make it run without much effort.....those where the days. Hats off all those that under stand all this techy stuff, me I'm sticking to mechical type engineering.

well done david. next step is to build the hard cut board. its more simple to do than the mjv4 board but its tricky to do the linkjumper wires and get it all in the same case. i will post some picts up once i get the desktop running. psu decided to flop on me. |
excelent..
TT |
nice work David, electrickery baffles me  :D
cheers andy |
Thanks for all the comments guys - having played with some expensive ECU's before I really enjoy the electrical side of car building. As Ash says the beauty of the system is the ease of adjustment. I'm also going to knock one of these up - http://autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=0353and at some point will sort out some Lambda measurement gear.
Ash - pics of your hard rev limiter installation would be very useful. Cheers Dave |
Nice one David
Well done :)
Your thoughts were probably the same as mine when I first saw the kit ... " How the bloody hell am I going to solder those tiny comonents " Mine went together a lot quicker than expected & were no trouble to solder, to be honest, it was a relaxing way to spend an evening :) You done a nice tidy job there mate  |
guys i keep hearing the words surface mount components appear
when referring to megajolt could somebody take the time to enlighten me as to what this is all about i take it is different to something that is presumbly normal cheers les g |
Hi les
A lot of the more traditional electronic components have pins the pass through the the board & are usually soldered from underneath. Surface mounted components are soldered directly to pads on the surface of the board. This allows for the better use of the more modern, multi-layer boards Components are quite often very small in size .......In fact can be very tiny  Hope you are feeling better after the works party mate :D :D |

The surface mount parts are about 1.5mmx3mmx1mm - sounds tiny but with a good magnifier and tweezers it is a lot easier than it sounds. Here is an example (from the autosport labs website) of one of the resistors on the hard rev limiter voard being fitted - ![]() |
Where did you get the kit ans how much did it cost?
TT |
I bought mine direct from the Autosportlabs site in the USA
Currently about $89 + shipping for the basic DIY kit Autosport labs USA Some good info on this site too :) You can buy ready assembled in the UK from triggerwheels, but it is likely to set you back about £175 The exchange rate is not too bad at the moment, Paypal will give you a decent rate..............Unlike my credit card issuer & my bank  ;) Probably get a kit with all the bells & whistles (USA) for about the £100 mark :) |
I got my kit from Autosport Labs shipped from the USA. Cost was £90 inc shipping for the V4 TPS Megajolt kit, with case mounting flanges, hard rev limiter kit, serial cable and sequential shift light kit. Lucklily didn't get stung for any import costs either.

here you go. nice and tight fit.

you will need megajolt light junior v4 TPS version for a car engine on bike carbs.
it is also worth getting the hard cut rev limiter kit at the same time to save the postage. |

:D
well happy, just bought a set of zx6r carbs , £30 delivered with tps..... Now the GULP  Do i buy the ready made up kit from Triggerwheels or go for the Autolabs kit & make it myself? is it easy to source the other bits that i,d need if i go the DIY route, need Edis 4 i believe...... coil pack .....anything else? or would it be easier to buy the whole lot from Triggerwheels? opinions please....... cheers andy |
andy i will build it for you if you dont want to. if you have got the same carbs as me you will need to re-jet them. when they tuned my carbs they managed to get away with reshaping the needles but he said if my engine had been any more than a 1.6 then the jets would have needed drilling out as he took as much off the needles a he possibly could.
you need mjolt edis4 coil pack with ht leads trigger wheel throttle position sensor VR Sensor you can buy it all of www.triggerwheels.com but its much more fun to hunt round and get a bargain. most ford mondeo and escort coil packs will work so all you will really need to hunt for is the edis4 which are not too hard to find tbh. There is a list on the autosport labs website telling you what cars the edis4 was fitted to so you should be able to find one in the breakers for harvest. |
as you have a cvh it should already have the trigger wheel and vr sensor. your bike carbs should have tps so all you need to find is edis4 and coil pack which shouldn't be too hard.
|
thanks Ash, thats very good of you mate, so if i go the DIY (Ash route ) what would i need to order from Autosport Labs?
i,ve been chatting to "Mark" who,s just installed his set up from Trigger Wheels............ he said i need an Edis 4 plus a coil pack & leads plus the Megajolt gizmo....... the one thing thats not on my side is Time versus Cost & vice versa. am trying my best to get my car finished in time for Stoneleigh  cheers andy |
:o
you added more info whilst i was typing my last post .... :D so it looks like it,ll be easy if i went the Autosports labs route, whilst you,re building the megajolt gizmo i can be sourcing the other bits, :D  i,ll be in touch Ash, thanks mate andy |
Ford Fiesta 1990-99 Europe
Mazda 121 1996-2001 Europe Ford Escort 1990-2000 Europe is where you want to be looking for edis4's according to the autosport labs people. if you can find a whole car then you should be able to get everything you need from one place. andy you need to get the V4 megajolt light junior tps version. think the kit is about $89 which is a complete bargain. i would also reccomend getting the hard cut rev-limiter add on kit for the extra $16.95, the mounting wings for $5.95, and the rj11/db9 tuning cable $5.95 for hooking it up to the pc. $117.85 in total so about £75 all in for the all singing all dancing version. |
thats great info Ash,
right, i,ll get onto it, will be in touch sooooooon :D cheers for your help.....electrickery & me don,t mix :o i,ve bought a premier systems loom & i still look at it with dread :D cheers andy |
just done the sums and its £50 difference between the all singing all dancing fully assembled one and the none assembled one.
definitely worth getting the diy kit if you can solder. |
