Whats not adding up right here?
Putting down the base rails. I'm not getting the same measurements near the front end as the book says. I've checked my marking out 100000 times and that all matches but br1 and 8 are different. Br1 approx 990mm and br8 approx 820mm. Has anyone else had this trouble? Should I just cut them to fit?
|
isn,t BR8 & BR9 the 2 rails that are the base of the engine bay? sorry, not got my book at home,
basically BR8 & BR9 come to a point at a junction with BR1 & BR2... cheers andy |
Yep thats them mate. Just I make BR1+2 shorter by about 3mm and BR8+9 almost 30mm longer then the book says.
|
but if you make BR8 & 9 longer then you,ll be causing a prob for BR7 which U1 & 2 sit on which need to be in the correct place as the rearmost upper suspension brackets are attached to U1 & U2.
sorry if i seem sketchy, but would be easier to explain if i had my book at home. cheers andy |
but i need to make them longer to fit where the book says they should be (for the width of 478mm). Br7 would still be in the same place as I would use the 808 diagonal measurement. With the longer BR8+9 I get the correct length for BR7.

any chance of a photo please?
i wish i had my book as would like to double check the measurements. cheers andy |
Forgot my phone lead mate. Will take one tomorrow afternoon.
|
no prob, i,ll have my book with me tomorrow too & be able to check with the Saturn jig chassis.
sorry if i,ve not been able to help today:o cheers andy |

I think you may have gone wrong somewhere along the line. I didn't have an issues when laying out the bottom rails of my chassis, or making it on 3d cad. Are you sure you have the correct placement of the other rails? e.g. BR12 and BR11 go in between BR5 and BR6.
|
Yep and br10 inside br 3+4
|
Now I could be wrong but the only way I can see BR1 & 2 needing to be shorter and BR8 & 9 needing to be longer but still keeping BR7 the correct length is if somehow the distance across BR10 has increased.
I am probably way of the mark. I will wait for the picture before passing any more comment. We will get it sorted. Cheers Ginge |
I haven`t got my book to hand but I seem to remember I had a similar issue with some measurements, turned out I was measuring the mitred tubes wrong as in the length when mitred instead of before they were cut? I hope that makes sense? Dennis.

How well does BR7 fit in between the BR8/9? If cut to the book length that it should fit perfectly, if it's too big for the gap then I think it means you have the large angles of BR8/9 wrong, I had them wrong when i made mine, they were about 1 degree out but mess up the entire section so i had to grind them out and redo them.
|
Haven't made BR7 yet but I've measured the gap and its bang on the same as BR7. Will measure the width is correct across FF tomorrow
|
put ff1 across the end it will soon become clear ;)

BR1+2 are now 2ish mm short so I reckon thats problem solved. Too cold and its getting dark to make much progress tonight though. Thank you all for the input!
|
dont worry i did the same thing with br1 & 2 then saw my mistake when i offered ff1 up :D i only spotted it quickly because i had an armoto laser cut chassis pack.
worst bit was being a perfectionist i redrew the whole board out on the other side. |

but this bit did make me smile :D can just imagine the scene:eek: sorry mate. cheers andy |
