Here's whats been keeping me quiet over the last few days !!



In typical me style .... The job has taken me 10 times longer than I expected it too :o

I have a modded CVH sump I can fit .... May just have a crack at shortening the alloy one though .... How difficult can it be :rolleyes:

One major drawback with a 16v engine .... How long does it take to do anything with the valves !!?? :eek:

Gearbox next !!

Yours is going to look really nice with all those new and clean bits!

Your not wrong there, time consuming work re-furbing used parts !!

Not gone OTT spending wise on the engine wich was a freebee.

Full gasket set & new head bolts, water pump, timing belt & tensioners .... All degreased & a lick of engine enamel .

Just as well I removed the head .... The rusty water staining I put down to knackered water pump seals, was in fact a minor head gasket leak at the corner of the head. :rolleyes:

Why folk run their cars without anti-freeze/rust inhibitor is a mystery to me :confused:

Once the gearbox is done, I can get the chassis back onto stands & do some of the fun stuff .... Play with some nice sparkling Red bodywork :cool:

come on ronnie if you get your finger out it will be ready for stoneleigh this year :D

less than 5 weeks to go and i am the only one that kept their promise from last year, to finish the car for this year :D

I am on course to have the last Roadster off the production line :D :o

Seriously, with the exception of the prop & a new set of tyres, I have all I need to complete the build :)

Just need to put my ass into first gear & get it all fitted to the chassis .... My target is to get the build finished by Christmas ready for IVA early next spring.

That'll give me a couple of months to go over it with a fine tooth comb .... Personally, I cant handle the pressure of a tight timetable to prepare for the IVA :o

try having a magazine editor on your back for 9months :D got my ass in gear to get the car done though.

I managed to give the gearbox a good cean & lick of paint today.




What is it with pressure washers !!?? .... No matter where you aim or stand, it just comes straight back at you .... Usualy straight in the face :eek:

Came in from that job like a drowned rat .... If I had a bit of common sense, I should don some waterproofs .... Aint got time for that though, I am on a roll :D

Diff next & thats the last of the heavy duty cleaning :)

I know exactly what you mean on the preasure washer.

I found a wire brush in a drill quite effective on the gearbox.

hi ronnie great job, I'm doing a zetec as well and was interested to hear you say you might be having a go at your sump. does it need to be cut, cause there is not much difference between the sump and the bit that bolts to the gearbox. If it needs cutting would be interested in how you will go about it.

I noticed that when I offer the CVH sandwich plate to the Escorts Zetec engine ..... There is a fair bit of spare flange that is surplus to requrements & could be cut off

My thinking is that with such a deep flange, it gives the impression that the base of the sump does not require altering .... I have a sneaky feeling once I have removed the surplus flange, i'll see a differnt picture. ;)

Will try to get some pictures up shortly :)

Did manage to clean up the diff yesterday but have not painted it as yet.

Your engine looks fantastic, Ronnie. What treatment did you use for ally parts? Is that silver paint on the head and sump? If so, did you use an etch primer? In general, what do I have to do in order to make my Zetec look as good as yours? :)

Sorry Albert, I missed this one :o .... I blame old age :D

The engine block & gearbox castings were degreased, then pressure washed.
Any loose material was removed with wire wheels and anything else that could be got into the tight areas .
Once de-greased, all of the Blackwork was given a couple of coats of High temp Engine Lacquer.

The alloy work had the same prep .... A little bit more work involved in removing the surface " White dust " Probably due to the fact of my geographical location and it's Salty enviroment .

All of the alloy was painted with a couple of coats of Silver High temp aluminium paint .... Needs no etch priming & has proven to be quite durable over the many years I have used it.
That said, on the head, it will probably tarnish a little as time passes.

The rocker cover was given a darn good clean & again it took some time to remove the White dust.
It was then treated to a few coats of Very High temp manifold paint .... This dries to a matt finish & it's primary use is for exhaust manifolds / downpipes.
Just chose that for looks realy.

The Black is, Tetrosyl Engine Laquer (150 deg c)

The silver is, Blackfriars Aluminium Paint (150 deg c) .... I have used this stuff for years & it has served me well .... A tiny brushfull goes a long, long way :D

The Red was a Halfords own brand product, VHT Exhaust paint .... Small spray can & the rocker cover got the lot :o

Sorry Paul there isn't a Pizza of it left as have Flan it away :D :D
