Zetec Clutch release bearing !!
My new clutch arrived this morning.
The cover is a perfect fit to the Zetec flywheel & friction plate a direct fit to the Type 9 gearbox spline. Thanks for that tip Cozzer ;) Here's my problem ..... The release bearing that my local motor factor got in for me is exactly the same as the old sierra one. It is supposed to be the CT133 bearing .... Took them 2 weeks to get it & cost £23 .... Non returnable as it was a special order  I make this post in the hope that somone will know the difference between the two bearings .... I assume the CT133 is thicker than the Sierra one in order to give a longer throw !!?? I have searched every where .... Where can I buy the correct bearing ? Another thought .... Has anyone tried to raise the clutch fork pivot pin in order to gain a bit more throw ? Ohhhh I had best say 1.8 Zetec to type 9 gearbox :o |
Hi Ronnie, I read a lot about zetec/type 9 clutches etc when I did mine and all I can say is there is a lot of misinformation out there! Lots of people who say you need this and that without doing the job themselves at all.
I used a 2 piece clutch QKT1905AF & a bearing CCT 132 not 133. Mine is in and running and clears fine. Hope this helps, Dennis |
Thanks Dennis :)
I am certain sure that the bearing that was got in for me is a CT132 May as well bolt the box on in the morning & see what sort of throw I have ;) You were dead right about the bottom holes on the sump ..... Just as well I cut the minnimum off & took my measurements from the sump flange :D :D |

Quinton Hazell have a PDF catalogue online: http://www2.qha.com/catalogues/QH08.pdf |
Apologies Ronnie, I checked my receipts this morning and it was a 133 brg. I used, I wrote down that much tosh about what people said about this n that before fitting it that I got confused as to what I eventually used, but the receipt is correct and it was the only one I paid for so I`m sure, Sorry!

Hey Dennis .... No worries mate :)
I have certainly had a few of those moments during the build :D Did connect the engine & box this morning ( Was going too anyways ) With the original release bearing fitted, there isn't a lot of throw .... Did connect the cable & to my surprise it did just about diss-engage before the bearing arm hit the bell housing !! But that is far from ideal and the chances are, once the friction plate has bedded in there will certainly be a bit of cluch drag ;) Rang one of the other local motor factors this afternoon, may have had a result. They are able to order from QH direct, he checked the computer & the CCT133 bearing is listed as still available from stock. I'll pop in tomorrow & get one ordered  |
you could modify the clutch arm to move it closer if you cant get the correct bearing.

I did have a good look at the task earlier .... In my own mind I was sort of thinking about fabricating a new arm that will accept the release bearing that came with the Mk1 Modeo cluch kit, that has all the right dimensions needed but fits to the arm differently !!?? In the event of needing a new clutch in the future it would be handy to have a nice simple 3 piece clutch kit change ;) |
I got my cct113 from ebay, was about £12 delivered at the time i think?
May be worth giving that a go Ron? |

I do look on the ole bay from time to time but never manage to spot one :( Mind you, I should have known better than to rely on Mill Auto to get the right part in for me  I was assured that their part number was the the same as the CCT133 QH one .... Non returnable too  Anyways, just a small hiccup & least I am making some good progress elsewhere & the spending is almost done :D |
Ive just had a dig through my recepts and ebay to see if i could find where i got it from to point you in the right direction, no luck tho.
I keep thinking that spending is nearly finished, but then remeber stuff like, wheels and tyres, megasquirt, wideband, prop, sigh... Anywho, sorry i cant be of more help mate |
All is good
Just to tidy this thread up.
My new release bearing arrived this afternoon. Here's a picture of the two bearings side by side, may be of use to others at a later date. ![]() The standard Sierra bearing is on the left ( CCT132 ) & the Capri bearing is on the right ( CCT133 ) . Both are QH part numbers. It can be seen that the CCT133 bearing is about 10mm thicker & will allow enough throw on the Zetec clutch. Not the cheapest of bearings at £26.93 but needs must & all that ;) They managed to get the part in direct from QH stock & was a next day service. This was also the factor that I used to obtain my Maxi & transit joints, I seem to remember that the prices for them was quite good :) Anyway folks, that's me sorted & all is good with the world once more :D |

Hi Aidan
I believe there are a few options open As the 2 Litre flywheel is so heavy, most folk opt for the much lighter 1.8 Zetec one. Possibly if using the original 2 Litre flywheel you will most likely be able to use the standard CCT132 Sierra release bearing. If using the standard flywheel you'll need to find a clutch friction plate that is the same diameter as the Zetec one & has a 1" 23 spline centre. The standard sump can be adapted to suit but again, most folk opt for the 1.8 Zetec one or a lowered 1.8 CVH one. You'll need a 1.8 CVH starter motor as I believe the zetec one fits the wrong side of the engine for the type 9 gearbox . A spiggot bearing will be needed for the flywheel, this will support the type 9 gearbox input shaft. Very easy to fit as the Zetec crankshaft is already drilled to accept it. The bearing can be got directly from Ford or found on Ebay. Finally you may want to use the 1.8 CVH sandwich plate between engine & gearbox ..... That said, I don't think they are very easy to get hold of .... So at a guess, I would say that folk either alter the Zetec one or just don't bother to use one !!?? Here's my set up 1.8 Zetec engine, from a 1992 Mk5 Escort Lowered 1.8 Zetec sump Mk1 1.6 / 1.8 Mondeo clutch cover & friction plate QH CCT133 Clutch release bearing 1.8 CVH starter & sandwich plate Flywheel spiggot bearing Ford Capri Mk1 clutch cable Type 9 Gearbox I hope this is of some help to you . |
Glad your sorted Ronnie, basically same setup as mine there..
Problem with the 2L flywheel can be the thickness. Some fit the type 9 bellhousing, some don't! On my ST engine the flywheel was bigger than the bellhousing aperture and simply wouldn't bolt up to the engine! Steve |
Thank's Coozer
Cheer's for the heads up on the clutch to use Steve :)
That tip saved me a fair few bob as was looking to buy separate components  Blagged a nice new Mondeo clutch kit for a very decent price  |

As for the spigot bearing, its number in the SKF catalogue is HK1516. They're a bit cheaper at the bearing factors. Haven't gotten mine yet, but I'll give it a try.

Cheers for that part number Albert :)
I am really pleased that I have managed to get the engine & box all fitted together. All covered up & put to one side for the time being. I have finaly managed to get the chassis back on its stands .... At last I can start the final fitting of the mountain of parts I have to hand  :) :) |
Yay, for once I'm getting something cheaper than you guys! The bearing factor had some inventory of a factory that went under. The bearing cost me only 77 pence! I'm tempted to buy a bunch of them and sell on ebay for 10 quid apiece, free shipping!
![]() I tried it, it's indeed the right size. |
I found a useful resource -- part numbers for the analogs of the CCT133 clutch release bearing:

Just thought I would update this thread with the Sierra spigot bearing Ford part number. It is:
Ford 1596468 I have just ordered one from my local motor factors costing £7.16 + VAT and will be here in 2 hours, quick service or what? Ford were wanting £11.96 + VAT and would take a day to deliver |
The spigot bearing is HK1516 at the bearing stockists. That way might be even cheaper and available immediately. I paid under £1 for mine, as the shop had a lot of stock from a factory that went under.
