Like Father Like Son
Well, .............
I,m about to start a new build, its a "7" Style car :D Whilst looking for bargains on "fleabay" in the kit car section I stumbled upon a car with a "BIN" price of just £15.......couldn,t resist such a bargain....... It has arrived at home today, Its a full template kit to make a "7" style car for my 3yr old son, it has very good instructions & even comes with a CD instruction manual, basically the car is made from MDF & a laundry basket & a Kitchen swing bin, & is powered by a cordless drill, Swmbo has told me to get it made before the school summer holidays  Just not sure if it needs an IVA.....:D I,ll post up some piccies once I start the build, the 2 cars ( mine & sons ) parked side by side will look great in a photo. I must be daft starting another build before my own car is finished LOL. cheers andy |

I don,t know how to do linkys but its a great bit of kit,
The laundry basket is cut up to make the front & rear cycle wings, the swing bin is used to make the bonnet & nosecone area & the rear tub (uses the lid to make the boot lid) Guess who,s just realised i,m going to lose my cordless drill   Oh well.....an ideal prezzie for fathers day next month ;) I,ll post some piccies once i start the build. cheers andy |
Andy that sounds great,
Just give us the item number and I will post the link. Cheers Ginge |

They look great,
Only problem is my two are a little big and if I started to modify, well it would just never end. Cheers David, was distracted by looking at big Army trucks for sale. |
Any help you need, He is a great guy, I have built one, helped him revise the plans, they are cracking :) will try to find my pics..................
If you need any help, just drop me a pm, I changed a few things on mine (adjustable peddle box) cracking cars, I have mine as a 2 speed (9.6v black & decker running a 12v house alarm battery.... fairly flies along  ) now where are my photo's.... |

Nice one Andy
What a great find Andy.
Personaly, I would go with a Bosch 800w motor in that :D If that lad of yours is as mad as you on the bikes .... I would put a roll bar on too :p You can get a brand new, 50cc mini moto engine for about £50 .... Now that would be hairy  Enjoy the build mate & once Junior can type, I expect him to join the forum :) |
And thats an original 1960's mountney wheel in there :D used it in all my mini's prior to getting one with an airbag

I have just had a tought Andy !!
That wouldn't be the single seater you were talking about building at Stoneleigh by any chance :D :D |
Headshot / Ronnie
:D :D Thanks Headshot, once i,ve read & re read the instructions i know where to come if i get stuck :p I,ve already thought about repositioning the headlights, & i,ve only just received the plans today. Ronnie....... I,ll be honest & say that i quite like the idea of the Roll bar, apart from safety of the nipper it,ll look even more like "dads car" :D I just thought for £15 it was worth a punt at making it , ........... Now, where is the jig for the front frame ????? LOL cheers andy |

call it a trial run :D Tho, I will be making the real Single Seater too..... i best get the Roadster finished first tho :o :D cheers andy |
I also picked up the wheels from the guy who makes the plans.
One major problem I have found is the level of grip at speed is so high my little girl (2) is nearly thrown out, I currently have the car sat on my roadster build table trying to work out roll bar and seatbelt arrangements! Have clocked her at 4mph in 1st gear and 10mph in second... which for a 2 year old is too fast  (especially when she doesn't quite understand steering yet :D ) |
I built one of the old type also. Was good little project and no.1 loves it.Only problem i found was the old type used a wooden door knob for the steering wire to wrap around and it would slip so i extended the steering column and bent it round at 90' to form a hook and then drilled through the axle and put a u bolt there for the hook to locate and do the steering.

I,m sat here right now reading the build manual  :D & I thought the steering mechanism was a little suspect so will be doing something similar to what you did to make it a more positive steering system. I wonder what its self centering would be like , I,ve thought about putting a bungy cord ( under tension ) into the steering so that it will always self center . do you think that is worhwhile ? cheers andy |
1 Attachment(s)
Iwouldnt bother as mines always turning the wheel to chase the other 2 buggers or the cat :D
Heres a pic also of a kiddie car from the shop that i copied the idea from, might make more sense than my explanation!! |

This part is now changed to a rubber door stop and 2 LARGE washers, works a treat, no slip :) |

Swmbo has even been out & bought our little lad a "Racing driver suit" :o :D I best get cracking on it, I suggested it should be tango orange like my car, wife says "silver & black stripe" cheers andy |
I tried to make mine like an old bentley :)
