N.e.w.

Hi there, I did put up a post yesterday but during the server change over it seems to have been lost. To those that answered yesterday many thanks. Rather than draw it out again the mains stay of my question was how difficult is it to convert a 1.8 eco-tech to rear wheel drive as I have a Vectra sitting in my drive.

Many thanks
Arfon

Hmmmm. Not sure. I know PPC (I think) had an article about converting a 2L Ecotech to RWD and they reckon it was great. I'll try to dig it out and see what it says. Not sure if the 1.8 and 2.0 share the same bellhousing pattern though. I would expect they do.

Edit: Seems you can either use an old manta gearbox, or a Vauxhall to Ford bellhousing (£200 ish) and use a type 9 gearbox.

Thanks for getting back to me, do you know if its also possible to do away with the ecu and run it on carbs.

Arfon

You can run it, but you can't get it through IVA test like that. The engine is too new and would require injection and a CAT to pass the IVA emissions test.

Those V.O.S.A. people dont play fair

Welcome back again .

Do what most do, build with an old sierra engine, then upgrade after Mr Vosa has said YES.

Thanks think I will be selling the Vectra on and buying a Sierra as a donor. Had better buy a box of tissues for when the old girl goes, we have done a lot of miles together over the past 10 years

No, just got the book (cheep) i'm now gathering bits. It looks like a flat pack from Handyandy while I have the chance to do the welding. Saltney autos will sort the rack & new bits.

TheArf 9th June 2010 08:21 AM

It sounds like the flat pack is very good value but I think I will be going by the book and cutting my own. I'm very lucky as a friend from the diving club i'm in has his own fabrication company and I can use anything I want i.e. guillotene, benders ect.

Arfon

I have access to the same, but thought about the time I would save. I'll be making all the plates, working on the cutting list now.

TheArf 9th June 2010 12:22 PM

I've been busy laminating all the drawings that I have managed to down load so that when I do get started I wont need to wreck the book too much in the garage

Arfon

Twin 9th June 2010 12:52 PM

Hope your not laminating for other reasons
I photocopied the book plans for the plates so i can cross em off as i go :)

TheArf 10th June 2010 04:12 PM

Thats' a good idea will get swmbo to photocopy them in work next week ready for me to laminate
