Dave's Build Thread Pics added pg2 :D

Well guys, my brand spanking welder arrived today, along with an auto darkening mask and pair of gauntlets.

I'm hiring my lockup friday morning and i've got a generator arriving friday afternoon.

I'm half way through sorting the gear for my chassis to get going.

And finally to get me started, i've got all my donor parts getting delivered on friday for £265 which doesn't seem like a bad price.

Anyway, I'll keep this thread updated with my progress and any questions i come accross along the way.

Wish me luck with my build :D Just need to let my bank balance recover from the blast now  haha

Dave.

Great to hear your build is making some good headway.:D

I will pop back with anticipation and have a read soon.

Good luck.

Hi dave, well done hope it goes ok, Just a thought is the generator for use with the welder, if so you will probably need quite a powerful one as welders takes some juice. I only had a 2.5kv (2500watts) and I couldn't get anything to work on it. You may need something like 5.5 to 7.5kv, there is a way to work it out by checking the welder power usage but not sure what formulea to use. Maybe someone here on forum may know.

Bought a 6.5kva one, so should work with the welder ;) Thanks for the advice. :)

Anyone heard from HandyAndy recently?? I've sent him a few PMs about steel, but he doesn't seem to be around. Hope he's ok and just busy. :)

I believe your best contacting him direct at Saturn if you'd like to discuss business with him

HandyAndy advertises his email address in his sig: andyroadster@yahoo.co.uk
Better than PM as it does not overfill.

David_17 10th June 2010 07:32 PM

You might want to get your self a fan to blow the smoke out of the container when you start welding and grinding.

**Update Time**

Just a small update from the last few days.

Got some wood, built the table, got the chasis kit. All so far so good...

Got some scrap 2mm plate to practice my welding, after 2 days of trying, the welder won't penetrate.. I assumed it was because i was running it off a generator, so took it home to have a try on the mains - still the same. So just to double check, tried my Dad's gassless 100A cheapo mig, and it worked straight away.

Turns out with a bit of help from the mig welding forum, my new welder's got a blown diode, so it's only running half power :(

So my build is now at a stand still until i can get the front frame welded.

As it stands...

Just a little update

Still waiting to get the welder back from being repaired, so i've started cutting the wishbones and making jigs.

Also, my 2.0 zetec arrived yesterday :D Do most people fit an escort sump?? (as the mondeo one doesn't line up with gearbox bolt holes, also is too big for the starter motor)

David_17 6th July 2010 07:57 PM

I've made a build blog that will be updated regularly.

It's located here... http://davesroadster.blogspot.com/
