looks good what thickness is that box tube looking at pics size looks about 3-4mm?
anyway your 2steps ahead of me at least you have got your steel i havnt even got that far!!!
hopefully next week ill be getting my steel

Twin 19th September 2010 08:48 AM

Steels 2mm, i've not taken the burs off yet so it looks thicker :)

Bonzo 19th September 2010 09:26 AM

You made short work of that job Twin :)

The chassis will really start to come to life once you start tacking all of that together

I cut all of my tubes one at a time as I needed them & that was after I square cut the full lengths into slighly oversize pieces ( Just to get it off the floor ) .... Probably the most un-methodical approach in Roadster build history, seemed to take for ever !!?? :o :D

Twin 19th September 2010 09:36 AM

I cut it all slightly over & square for now, as I have to move it all from home (Chester) to work (Portsmouth).

This week I need to sort my build table and start a blog.

Bonzo 19th September 2010 09:46 AM

It will certainly be a lot easier to transport in kit form :)

I look forward to following your build progress

Twin 19th September 2010 09:55 AM

Thanx Bonzo, I need to keep the motivation going :)

HandyAndy 19th September 2010 09:35 PM

All set out ready to go, just need to finish table now :)

oh! and find SB1 :o think I missed it out of my cutting list & I only 350mm left over.

Double oh! need to learn to weld!

JHewitt 22nd September 2010 05:07 PM

Well done for cutting it all yourself, I cheated with the kit!!
I am the same as you in that I needed to learn to weld, i bought a BOC dvd on mig welding, and printed off the tutorials from the mig welding forum, bought a cheap welder & mask and off I went. Lots of people go for the college course route, but I didn't like the cost of it or the time it takes. Will look forward to reading your updates.
Good luck, welding is brilliant!!!:D

I'm an instructor in the biggest engineering college in the EU.

should be quite cheap to learn ;)

TheArf 23rd September 2010 08:26 AM

Hey Twin just been looking at your progress, looking good. I take it this place of learning that you work at doesn't have a big enough budget to run to a floor brush and shovel.

Twin 23rd September 2010 10:05 AM

LOL, that'll be my mates workshop on the farm :)

The straw kinda gave me a clue, I have spent a lot of time working in Farm workshops .... The odd bonfire when you are welding keeps you on your toes :D

Once you have your build table made, you'll be good to go with the fun part of the build :) :)
