Big Grin Day!
Well for me anyway - had my IVA in Exeter today and ..............PASSED:D
Didn't think I'd get there in the lovely weather this morning, rain sheet got ripped off so the roadster got a bit wet (no drain holes yet!!). Thought I was towing a pond!! But managed to sponge it out, still bit damp though. Adrian did my test (normally based in Taunton), very nice bloke. No major issues, although I thought I'd f**ked it with the emissions. Needed some tweaking but got there in the end (just). Might need some work in the future? There were some small pick-ups but they were sorted on the spot. Thought I'd pop into the DVLA while I was in the area to see if on the off chance they could sort me out. No snags what so ever, 10 minute wait then left with tax and reg number. Just need to get some plates made up:) Might go for a spin the weekend if the weather picks up. Thanks to all that have answered my daft questions, helped me with the build and getting through the IVA pretty well un-scathed. I'd buy you all a drink but my dads a Yorkshire man and I think its rubbed off(say no more). Anyway just thought I'd let you know. |

thanks for the kind words. Age related plate (J), wouldn't give me the one I wanted - apparently it's picked at random by the computer! Here's a couple of photo's, father in law is trying to dry it - no point didn't stop raining. Haven't stopped grinning yet, getting plates tomorrow, forgot tax disc holder but should be able to knock some thing temporary up. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

well done on your pass and first time to! You've done a marvellous job, your car looks wonderful. Congratulations! I’ve had a trawl through your build photographs and it’s given me a few little ideas that I will incorporate in to my build so thanks for sharing them. One point though: I can only see side repeaters on the scuttle, are these the only side repeaters you have? Was the examiner happy with the position with respect to rear visibly? I guess he was, as you passed! As I’d imagine it’s a bit tight with the some of the angles of visibility required and the rear wheel arch. I know that AshG’s passed with them in a similar position, but an awful lot of people go to a lot of effort to put them on the wheel arches to meet the IVA criteria. Was the examiner particular meticulous with checking the side repeater position? Sorry for so many questions, but it would be good to good to get some information on this, as I’d much prefer to have mine on the scuttle in a similar position as yourself. Once again a great build and carry on grinning. |

yep they are the only ones fitted. I did think about sticking them back there but the wiring was in the scuttle and to be honest I couldn't be bothered with the hassle. The examiner looked from behind and was happy. If you crouch down and look level with the rear arches you can see them, you can go slightly lower than level and still see them and you can see them from directly behind. I couldn't see any position I couldn't see an indicator. If you decide to stick them on the rear arch I believe there is a maximum distance from the front. Hope thats of some help. |

thanks for your reply, it'll probably be another 18 months or so before I'm fitting my lights, but I like to think ahead!. I am at the 'fully tacked chassis' stage at present, but it's good to piece together bits of information on what passes and what doesn’t. What made you put the diagonals in the transmission tunnel? I was planning on doing that, since I have several metres of 19mm ERW left over (I bought and cut the steel). I'd read a few articles on stiffening the chassis, so thought it would be better doing that, than it being left in some corner of my workshop rusting away. Cheers. |

Same here,
had some excess steel, then had a thought after a few people mentioned prop failures. So I decided to put them in just incase that ever happened. The time it took me to get the prop in, I'm hoping it won't come out easily!! I'd recommend thinking ahead, if you think IVA when your building and not when you've finished it will make it easier. If I can help, just pm me. |

thanks for the map - I am running that one. It worked nice on the rolling road producing better than standard bhp. Sun was out today so took it for its official first legal run, fetched a little smile to my face, briefly before the wind tried ripping it off (no screen):eek: It did hesitate jsut before 4000 rpm, I think this is to do with the tweeking of the carbs to pass IVA. Needs another set up on the RR, sods law just found one less than 1/2 mile from me so going to give him a try. Just hope its nice tomorrow, might sneak in few more miles. |

I got my car tuned at a place called automark in the north east, he looks after some race cars for race teams and is a very knowledgeable bloke where engine tuning is concerned
He wrote the map for me, i was on zx6r carbs too I think a standard cvh such as adrian h is running with a bolt on filter and free flow exhaust made similar power to mine on bike carbs but mine made much more torque, think it was around 140ftlbs which is alot for an old 8valve cvh, about 40% more than standard Pm daddya to send you a copy as i am now using an st 170 so dont have the map on my megajolt anymore, if he cant send you it im sure i have it saved on a usb stick somewhere if i can find it! email me if he cant send it and i will try and find it for you. |
