Fed the hell up
Anyone in the bedfordshire / northamptonshire area wanna come help me out at some point with my rear axle im havign some real problems getting the bloody thing to go together properly its really starting to get to me.
Im even willing to pay someone to get it right for me so i can carry on with my build without chucking the towel in. so Beer / Cash available Help Please! |
What sort of problem are you having Carl ?
Perhaps between us all here, we'll be able to talk you through it :) |
bolt on drive shafts, discs
nothing seems to be straight forward i got the near side all on and it doesnt look right it loosk like the top of the upright neds to go back but it cant due to the driveshaft contacting the upright. |
A couple of things to check.
Have the wishbones been made to the revised book spec, 10mm longer ( You'll find the revisions in the announcements section ) Are you fitting the correct shaft to the correct side ( one side is longer than the other ) Those lobro shafts do need to comress a little, if the rear bearing carrier is not fitted to the upright, the driveshaft will most likely kink to one side and hit the upright. I used the old driveshaft nuts to pull the safts into the bearing carriers .... They can be tight little devils to get seated fully. |
Here's another thought, have you left the toothed ABS ring on the hub end of the driveshaft ?
I seem to remember reading somewhere, it will not pass through the rear upright !! If memory serves me right, the ABS ring can be removed with a cold chizzle ;) |
I might be able to lend a hand soon if that helps.. Bedford just a junction away.:)
|
wishbones are 3ge so should be ok, i seem to recall checking with john when i brought them.
no i havent removed the abs ring but it did pass through the upright the upright just wont adjust enought on the camber adjuster to get it vertical. |
So does it look like the top 'bone is too long? or bottom maybe too short?
|
ummmmm what about the brackets on the chassis?
|
piccy time.
TT |
Fabby - that would be awesome if you could,
the camber adjuster has adjustment but the upright wont move back to meet it i think the wishbones are ok ive had it all together before but with diffrent uprights. pics will follow but not until i get anotehr memory card for me camera |
If nowt else I'm good at drinking coffee and eating all your biscuits....:D
|
Have you fitted the right half shaft as the right hand one is longer than the left so if you've accidentally picked up the right hand one and tried to fit it to the left hand side you'd get the problem you seem to be describing.
D. |
Mark Just let me know what biscuits you like and how you take your coffee, I'm in north Bedfordshire mk44 2dg take a peak on google maps.
What side drive shaft has the left hand thread? Or which one is longest so I can get the tape measure out |
Left hooker will be the side that won't come undone while going forwards so it's the left hand drive shaft...unless I'm going mad....;)
|
thats what i figured and thats how ive fitted them, standard thread on the left (nearside)

I have just been out to look at my build. The shorther shaft with the left hand thread needs to be fitted to the nearside of the car Here's a picture of some lobro shafts that I have kicking about. ![]() I know my build is using push in shafts but here is a couple of pics .... May help you to spot something :) |
Beat me to it Davy :o :o :D
|
All I spotted buddy was no lock nuts on your uprights!! Thanks guys
|
Feelin like a teat tho over the driveshafts

i'll let you know :) still if you fancy a day of coffee and biscuits mark your walcome to come help with the rest of the rear brake lines ;~)
|
Abs ring doesn't seem to be removable
|
Hi, mine all went together fine without removing abs rings or anything else.
makesure the hub is pulled all the way through the bearings you should see a couple of threads sticking through the nut. also make sure the shafts havent popped out of the joints and check the prop flange on the diff is central in the tunnel. finally when its all together you should be able to move the shafts a little sideways this will show nothings binding hope this helps Ray:) |
