My Car up for Sale
 

Hi Folks, I have decided I can't be arsed with IVA so I am going to sell my car. It is all done, I think it should pass but I have had enough of officialdom at the moment and can't take any more:mad:
First person that comes along with an offer of £3500 gets it. The full build story is at www.deepfolly.co.uk. It is as per the web site except it has new head lamps and spacers have been fitted to make the head rests IVA compliant.
I drove it the other day and all seems fine, the suspension will need a proper set up.
I have built it from the ground up to be compliant so it should go through OK. Buyer will need to collect it on a trailer, it can be driven on and off no problem.
It is a 2.0 DOHC injected engine with MT75 5 speed box, standard Sierra diff and brand new Dunning and Fairbank prop. Petrol tank is a Westfield alli job.
Wheels are Escort, tyres are good but not brilliant, some pirellis or whatever would be better than what is on there, they are virtually new but just not top make jobbies.
There are a couple of very small jobs left to do - maybe 1/2 a days work and 20 quid of bits.
Drop me a pm if interested, If I don't get a sensible offer here it will go on ebay.
Buyer will have to collect it on a trailer or whatever from Bracknell, Berkshire.

I agree mate all that hard work ...skinned knuckles shouting and swearing don't let somebody else have all the enjoyment of driving it around the twisty roads in the summer....and i need your help to get mine going !!!

nope, checked my clock, calendar, rang the mother in law, had 12 coffee to sober up... And still the date aint 1/4/11.

Thanks for the words of support guys but my mind is made up. I have had a nightmare with so many different things this year and if one more jumped up tosser of a government (or bank, or endowment company) employee upsets me one more time then I am likely to go completely mental:mad: :mad: :mad: I just can't face it, too much else going on. It's a shame but I have my mental health to worry about, I suffer from bipolar disorder and can't risk my businesses suffering because of me taking too much on. It's gotta go:(

Gutted to hear your selling your car! You're so close! I follow your build diary with enthusiasm just to double check that I'm doing it right. Wish you the best of luck selling it though, the buyer is going to be very lucky.

Can I pass on my regards as well and really sorry that you won't be able to finish. You have been a big help to me getting small issues fixed and an inspiration that stuffing a DOHC in a roaster can be done, and done well!

If I wasn't so far along with my build I would have snapped your offer up as I think the car looks ace.

Maybe in the future you can pick up a part built and reap the benefit then

Why not, find a friendly local builder to you, give them a grand and your car, and couple weeks later they return you a car with number plates on?

Someone like Saturn should be able to finish and put it through IVA.

Depends where you are but there may be another company near you that will do it.

Bad news Enoch,last few posts are a sound remedy to your dilemma.

I know how you feel I have a real fobia with exams and I need to do one ( I am 55 !).

Enoch, I've really enjoyed reading your web updates, your sense eof humour shines through. I can understand your reasons but I'd say give the last few posts a good think before you sell up. I fear that if you do sell now you will forever be wondering what it would have been like to drive a car that YOU built BY HAND from start to finish.

sorry to hear your having to sell up mate, i too have read your build diary from start to finish. The worst thing with selling anything you have put your heart and soul into is the regret that comes afterwards. I almost sold my build when i was made redundant but i changed my mind because i knew id regret it. I spent almost twenty grand rebuilding a twin turbo mitsi gto a few years ago and i sold it when things got tight, biggest mistake of my life. Id say if you are going to sell, then at least give it a blast around a track first and get some enjoyment from it. Anyway chin up mate, you might change your mind after a few days.

Well thank you all for your kind words of support, it has been quite touching.
I have really enjoyed the build process, it has kept me from going totally insane over the last year and a bit. I have built a car previously, which I drove for a few months, it was fun. I have thought about it some more and just can not get myself interested in filling out all the forms and going through the whole ridiculous process. I have already had a nightmare with DVLA getting contradictory answers or no answers at all. You can't even phone the local guys, you have to go and see them, they are 45 minutes drive away!! I might get it totally finished before I sell it so I know I have done it but I have had my fill of dealing with stuff I can't be bothered with, life has got me beaten:(

My thoughts would be this;
If its not a money issue then finish the car and leave it in your shed or garage uncovered.Walking past it all the time may well spur you on to get it registered.

I have been an avid follower of your build diary from day one
When I am feeling low, I often turn to your blog for a good read, it never fails to bring a huge smile to my face & really brightens up my day.

Can certainly see where you are coming from though & if I were to be honest with you, the 200 mile round trip just to jump through the IVA hoops, is one of the reasons as to why my build is not progressing as fast as it could.

My motivation is at an all time low at this moment of time, missing Stoneleigh show didn’t help.
After spending the last month trying to deal with our incompetent local planning office, I can certainly see how easily one can become sick and tired of officialdom :mad:

Been some good advice given to you already but perhaps my current situation may give you some inspiration.
At the moment my build is sitting at the back of the workshop gathering dust, I have no interest in working on it at all …. Just too much crap going on in my life at the moment.

Every time I walk into the workshop, it really annoys me to see it sitting there just gathering dust.
I have very strong urges to just sell up & clear the lot out of sight.
Just can’t bring myself to do it, I know I will deeply regret it ( I am certain sure of that )
To this end, I am looking for a small lock up to store my build in for the time being, out of sight out of mind sort of thing ( If you know what I mean )

All of that said, I am sure that you will decide on the best personal solution for you & whatever that may be, I wish you all the very best. :) :)

Hiya Ronnie, sorry to hear that you are having similar "issue". I have really enjoyed the build, the learning new skills and the creation of something from nothing. Encountering problems and finding solutions has kept my mind and body busy, I have no regrets whatsoever about building it, in the same way I don't really have that many regrets about selling it and doing something else.
Life is supposed to be enjoyed, hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable. I have done the enjoyable bit, now I don't want to do the unenjoyable bit - simples:)
Driving it would no doubt be fun but there are so many roads round here where I can't take it (sleeping policemen) including the ones I need to get to my office and warehouse. I figure somebody else will get a lot more fun out of it than I would if they want to take on the bit I don't want to do. I will take the cash and put it towards something else that I will enjoy and life will be good again:)
I must think more about that XJR that I have always fancied. Hmmmmm.........

Really sorry to hear of this, likewise as all others have said, your build has been an inspiration to many forum members, me included , your build blog has often made me smile both on the achievement of the build & your great sense of humour when solving the odd little hiccups :D

If you decide to change your mind & keep your Roadster , if there is anything I could do to help then please don,t hesitate to shout up.

However if you do sell it on may I wish you all the best with any future plans on a new project you embark upon , I,m sure it will bring enjoyment to you & many others whatever it may be.

sounds like your at the last hurdle to me. be real sad to not see it to the end and would also point out it would be worth loads more with a reg plate at each end :D
im sure some local builders might be able to help and i seem to remember there is a guy that just does all the paperwork side of things for your kit (its what he does and is an expert at it) not sure where i saw his ad

Paul Jepson, he used to work at Reading DVLA. He was the guy did the inspection on my 2b donkey's years ago. I had thought about going to him, it would alleviate one bit of the process. I think I will sit on it for now and see if I change my mind. I will finish it totally and see how I feel then.

When I was an apprentice we all had to sit through health and safety videos. I remember one in particular - it featured a chap called Ernie. They showed this disgusting, bleeding, weeping lump of reddened flesh that turned out to be the remains of poor Ernie's scrotum. He had made a habit of keeping oily rags in his pocket and now had severe dermatitis of the gentleman's jewelery. I don't think any apprentice that attended those sessions ever put an oily rag anywhere near anything sensitive from that day onwards.
The other video that explained that long hair and lathes don't make good bed fellows was also quite gruesome. :D

One sticks in my mind and its the one where they pull a Drott or D8 cat out of a hole with a large diameter wire hawser and one guy stands over it as they take the strain,flicks him ten feet in the air holding the crown jewels.:eek:

Jeeeeesus....you have just cast my brain back 20 years ago when i started my time.....was there not a fork truck video too when the lad stuck his hand out to operate a button ....kept going forward while his arm was attached to the button ???...Boys have got it easy now...those vids will be 18 rated now !!

I don't recall any vids during my apprenticeship (probably too old) but I do remember being shown some very graphic photos of what happened to a chap who sat on a truck wheel with split rim ring while he inflated the tyre. In short the rim ring came off and he was propelled at high speed to the ceiling 20ft above where he made a rather gruesome imprint of his bent and twisted body:( .
