Drive shaft covers
Been to Ford dealer this morning to order a couple of the steel covers needed to refurbish my drive shafts. The lad behind the counter couldn't find them on his parts fisch. Anybody know the part number and if they are still available?
I think there are two different sizes and my shafts are from a diesel. Surely there must be a market for these given the number of sierra driveshafts around? |
Been unavailabe from ford for 10 years or more! never seen a supply.
TT |
Oh Great. I've just cut one open!
|
fordpartsuk apparently can do them.... not tried them myself
if you have any luck let me know. post up some part numbers too as I'm sure it will be of use to others http://www.fordpartsuk.com/contactus.htm |
i take it your on about the tin can/crimp on type cv boots for sierra drum brake type drive shafts.
i know there are 2 types 73 and 77mm cv body dia was 2 auto factors and there is no pattern replacments thay could find  i think recon shafts are still availble but thay are going to be expensive |
They were available recently, one was cheap and the other variety expensive.
MSA appproved complete shafts are available from Comercial Propshafts in Team Valley Gateshead. Stan is the man. |
Gaz, if you get really stuck,
I have a spare pair of push in driveshafts ( intended keeping them as spares), but if they help keep your build going just get in touch. They have very good CV boots & the tin cans are also in good nick. Also got spare diff & brakes etc, infact its a full backend that I have spare. cheers andy |
Cheers Andy. I'll keep that in mind. just need the left hand one.
FordpartsUK didn't get back to me so I assume they're unavailable. I'm wondering what kind of market there is for them. Tooling wouldn't cost much and one of my neighbours has a business pressing car panels. Just a thought. |
it will be a part that will shift, but not quickly. Demand will go up though.

one boot and one steel cover pluss grease cost me £13 plus vat |

Obviously ford have been lying for 10 years! or you struck the only dealer with one on the shelf LOL... I may pop in and see if my local can get a pair. TT |
I think that's the earlier cover. Mine is completely different. Do you mind me asking how much it was?

im pritty sure the early type was full length sleave bit like peugeot had |
mine are starting to crack on one end and as you cant take the shaft apart without removing the crimped tin sleve i think its going to be strech boots for my shafts unless someone knows of a better solution?
|
Hi
I got one from Unipart it was about £6 each including the clips & grease! The rubber had to be cut to fit. http://www.unipartlogistics.com/wps/...n/uabranchlist |
mecatech was the brand we used in the garage
thay where well handy for the french stuff where you had to take the complete shaft apart just cut the old one of and lube the cone, over the cv and push the new cv untill the tortoice pokes its head out and pop you streched the hole boot over the cv tryed it once with a normal boot and it split like a cheap condom |
Can't believe it was May when I posted this. Seems like yesterday.
Anyway I'm going to look around for a new (old) driveshaft. Can anyone tell me if both types will fit my diff and bearing carriers? |
yes, they are both the same.
cheers |
