No Spark !!! any ideas or TwinTurbos ??
Been working on a trial start today..engine 2.0 DOHC injection...I have wired up a switched 12v feed to pin 37 of ECU my fuel relays are energising i have 12v briefly to fuel pump and 11v at the coil (only between chassis and pos go across coil and get bugger all) .....BUT still no spark at the plugs...could there by any chance be an imobiliser part of the ECU that requires wired out ? this may only make sense to TT or Enoch not sure there are any others daft enough to use this engine ahahaha
Had to come in for some beer ruddy battery flat now.... |
Is the plug to the Crank Sensor connected at the lower rear drivers side of the engine?
Do you have constant +12V to the coil? Do you have +12V on ecu pin 57 & 37 & 1? +12V at the ignition module? and is it grounded? TT |
PS... Have you seen the loom plugs spreadsheet on my website, it's for conversion to 24V but lists the functions of the pins of the three engine multi plugs.
TT |
Cheers Twin...The crank sensor being directly under the oil Filter ?...yes thats connected....12 v at the coil when ignition in position 2 and 3...not checked all of those pins yet but will tomorrow
Edit...not checked ignition amp...its judt sitting on the ally scuttle at the mo...i take it i should have it fixed to the chassis to get a good earth ? |
Basicaly.
put +12V on the black wire on the 6 pin plug. put +12V on the black wire on the 8 pin plug Put +12V to the coil +12V make sure the earths are all conected. Power up the fuel pump. Crank the engine. TT |
Got out for a small amount of time today ...got power on 57 37 and 1...12 volts on ign amp ...there was a core on the amp that seemed to be dropping down steadily from 12v ?...yet no spark...going to give that battery a good charge as it feels a bit sluggish when turning over...will go out and buy a charger tom as some b'tard just sniped the one i was watchin on e-bay ...

I had a situation on a build a few years ago where i had a live everywhere i was supposed to but on cranking it disappeared. Turned out to be a dodgy ignition barrel. Might be woth putting a meter across positive on the coil while cranking.

Check you have 12 v on one side of the coil - the ignition amp also needs a 12 volt feed on it - can't remember which wire. I had missed this at first and got no spark as a result. If you have 12 volts at 37 and 57 of the ecu and your earths are ok it should spark. You need to make sure the ignition amp is earthed.
Best of luck, Dave. |
Right battery been charging all day went out to give it a turn just now...bugger all...12v on coil dropping to about 10 on cranking engine....have earthed the ignition amp to chassis ....peeing me off am itchin to get petrol into it but no point if no spark to do anything to it .....

Put +12V on the coil and then repeatildy quikly earth the negative side, have the king connected to a spare spark plug with the plug thread earthed to the engine block.
This should manualy induce sparks. TT |
OK still i get bugger all sparkies...so its off out tomorrow for another coil then.?? If this works i will be a happy bunny been a day of expensive things going bang in the house ie washing machine....so here's hoping....
|
so tapping the coil manually does not induce the spark?
Were you getting a tiny spark from the wire you were using to ground the coil? You need to rule out the king lead too. TT |
Do you have a meter to test the resistance of the windings of the coil.
TT |
Sure do...getting about 0.9 ohms between terminals and about 11k from center tap..
Getting a pretty large spark when tapping the ground wire |
Have you tried testing cranking with just the test plug on the king lead? or just with spark plugs on the plug leads?
TT |
Didnt crank just live to coil and grounded neutral with plug on King lead...good strong spark from grounding wire when it touched the chassis

Will try the test crank with plug on king lead only...getting bambinos to bed first !!! |
But no spark from the spark plug on the king lead?
You could try esting the plug in the top of the coil to rule out the king lead. Where are you earthing the spark plug too? And have you got continuity between the cylinder head and the engine block or an earth wire form the cylinder head to the battery? TT |
Sneaked out there ...bugger all cranking with plug on king lead aaaaarrrrrgghhhh
Yes have continuity between head and neg of battery also chassis well grounded was grounding the plug to the plenum (when other 3 plugs connected) and when it was on the king lead to the new bolt on the exhaust manifold...all checked to earth ...The plug would not fit in the coil not making contact |
