Passed Passed Passed

WOO HOO...

As you can tell, i'm quite happy. :D

Drove down for my retest today, 90 miles without a glitch.

Was an hour early for the test, so hung about for a bit then got cracking. It was a different guy this time. He was very chatty and friendly and seemed interested in kit cars, which was nice.

To cut a long story short - Checked off all the bits off the fail sheet, tweaked the emissions slightly on the laptop and got a pass.

Unfourtunately, when doing the emissions test, the engine got pretty hot and spat out all it's coolant. So i topped it up and hoped for the best. A few miles down the road on the way home happened again! Luckily i was close to a roadside burger van with a very friendly bunch of people who gave me a nice big tub of water to get me on my way.

Topped it up again, and noticed it was dripping from one of the hoses. Nipped up the hose clip and hey presto job done.

I tried Beverley DVLA, and they said i had to go to my local office. Took it to the local one and they said, she only does them fridays and is probably fully booked tomorow. Ah well, nearly there.

Oh, for some reason, my sat nav must have been as happy as me, as it took me back the moor road way...

Plenty of spares just incase...

I'd like to thank everyone for their help and support through out my build. Without it, i think i would have given up a long time ago. Especially Andy at Saturn, HandyAndy, Ronnie, Steve and Mark.

DVLA are a pain in the butt, extremely well done though David you should be well chuffed now. 1st of July will soon come, in the meantime you can get some final tweaking done now the big test is over. Got a diffuser ready for you to.

Well Done....Andrew

David_17 17th June 2011 11:53 AM

yes you do, they used to inspect them outside the dvla office at Stockton but due to H&S bull they are not allowed to plus you're not allowed to drive it there.

Track Day Ahead.........:D We all deserve one.

David_17 17th June 2011 08:12 PM

Sounds like a plan. :D

Ditching the throttle bodies for carbs first, can't get my head around getting them set up properly.

John.W 17th June 2011 08:47 PM

Well done david the car looks the muts nuts.

Regards

John

dont do that now its road legal you can drive it to friendly people that will help you get it setup :D

David_17 17th June 2011 08:55 PM

It's just looking like carbs will be the easy option. lol

AshG 17th June 2011 10:23 PM

dont really see how as they will still have to be setup on a rr.

if i were you i would wait until you have driven it a bit. you need to go out with your laptop setup in logging mode, drive the thing then go home and look at the logs make the changes off line to sort out the lean spot then go out again and test. once you have got it pretty goo just use the auto tune to finish it off. if you want to get that last little bit out of it take it to the rr and get it finished off.

also what is a good carb setup and manifold going to cost? £200? well thats the cost of a rr day but you dont have to do any of the work.

David_17 17th June 2011 10:51 PM

I see what you mean, its just all the faf with acceleration enrichment settings and stuff that you dont have to bother with carbs.

Once its on the road. I'll decide.

shh120m 18th June 2011 04:09 PM

well chuffed for you mate

AshG 18th June 2011 07:16 PM

i have played with efi and i have played with carbs. carbs are harder. i love my ms3 you type the number and it does it. you need to sit back and look at what you was trying to do. tune a car in a static position! impossible. you have to drive it and tune it at the same time. there are two ways fo doing it. go out on your own and datalog everything then make informed changes. or get a mate to drive it and you tap away at the laptop or vice versa if said mate knows what he is doing.

at least give it a try on the road before you give in.

3 ways to do it actually.. :D

AshG 18th June 2011 07:31 PM

if you havent already go and buy dave walkers book at the bottom of this page. it explanes everything about accel enrichment and all the other stuff you need to get a really reliably running car. its what i used to map my car and it goes like a stabbed rat. just ask spud and andy :D
