IVA Passed today
2 Attachment(s)
Well after some minor drama with water leaks and air locks last night the car was loaded onto a trailer ready for the trip to VOSA this morning for an 8am inspection, Ian the tester was great allowing me to add little bits of trim and zip ties as required (not alot to be honest) before we hit a couple of potentially disaterous snags, my wing stays were too close to the brake caliper unions, easily sorted with the loan of a grinder from a nearby welding firm and the one i thought would stop us dead was the head lamps i brought from Rally Design were dipping to the wrong side! no adjustment on the lamps left me sunk until the tester said he was going for lunch and if I could have them sorted before he got back then the car would pass.
frantic post on Locostbuilders yielded nothing, Kit parts direct were the perfect solution however they are closed thursdays!! a call to Mike of Road Runner Racing yielded a pair of loan lamps! Over I went collected them and fitted them intime for a clean bill of health! 1 Pass sheet!. Id like to say that I couldnt have finished my build without the help of Andy and Noel @ Saturn and the keen eye (and edge trim) Of HandyAndy. Thanks Guys Here are some finished Photos. |
Well done with the pass, good to see you got the lights sorted from someone local.

|
Thanks guys, they were the dominator type lamps i will be speaking to rally design about them it could be aone off so dont bouycot a good company just because of one foul up.
the wing stays were about 10 mm away and could have done with double that we just cut a notch into them and welded the into a web to regain the strength |
Well done Carl
Well done on your IVA pass Carl :) :)
Just in time to catch the tail end of this summer. Bet you can't wait to get the Roadster registered & on the road  |
first of all congratulations, a vary nice looking car you have built there!!! Bravo :)
i had the dominator H/L's when i went threw IVA didnt get mine from rally design but they are basicly the same, all i hade to do was rotate the filter on them to make them have a left kick rarther than a flat beem. what was it that your tester didnt like about them?? once again well done !!! tilly |
The headlamps from RD had a notch in the bottom of the lense and casing to prevent them being rotated and olny one screw hole and one clip opposite it to hold them in so no adjustment :$
thanks guys take a read of my other post RE Saturn in the General discussion area, I feel I didnt do them justice with my post last night they put alot of hard work into helping me finish my build. |
well done carl let the fun begin and we may be seeing 1 around locally at last mate

Congratulations on your IVA pass.
I to have looked at getting the Dominator headlights. After speaking to Russ from Furore Cars he did point out that the headlights have a flat beam pattern, but can be modified to dip to the left. Below is an extract I have copied from their website. Dominator Headlamps The Dominator headlamp has been around for about 15 years now, but the Kitcar market has been slow to make use of them. They've been fitted to motorbikes & well known in the bike trade for most of that 15 years & are still immensley popular now. The lenses are just over 90mm & they measure approx 105mm across the diameter of the casing, hence smaller, lighter & less wind resistance than any other "traditional style" headlamp available - though not as small as the Projector lamps I sell. Because they were originally intended for motorcycle use the headlamp pattern is basically flat. I was told by my SVA tester on 22/12/08 that a flat beam is completely legal in the UK, I believe it is the British/American beam pattern. In the new IVA regs it has been made quite clear that a flat beam pattern IS acceptable. However, most Mot testers expect to see a “kickup” to the left. If you look at the beam closely, it is in fact a shallow angle “V” which if you rotate the lamp by 15 degrees gives the required “kickup” for the standard UK beam pattern. Hence, remove the lens & file a new slot about 12-13mm to the right (when viewed from the front) to locate the lens. Hope this helps. |
Congrats, bet you can't wait to get it registered & on the road properly now!
|
Congrats, the car is a credit to you.
Peter |

Congrats! car looks great, enjoy! :D
|
Well done car looks amazing...how did the disc setup go with the examiner...(obviously it passed BUT)do you have any device to limit the rears from locking up before the front ?
|
Yeah she is pretty.
I increased the front brakes to the 4x4 cosworth 60mm single piston calipers with 290mm?? i think discs front a cosworth 2WD, this increase in front brake efficency is enough to offset the rear. Ive no reducers or proportioning valves in my system at all. |
Congratulations lovely looking car youve made there !
I hope my tester has the same kind nature when i go for my iva |
