nancy heater
Has anyone bothered fitting a heater. Not being twenty anymore I am toying with the idea of fitting a heater and was wondering if this ground has already been trodden, if so what unit is a snug fit in that tight space?

In the days of political correctness are we permitted to call it a Nancy heater?

I've just ordered one from t7 design and am really impressed with the quality although the heater is £100 plus extra vents/pipes was debating about getting an old mini heater or something similar? This one does fit under the scuttle but may fit it in the engine bay with an intake pipe.

I plan to fit a small heater behind the dash on top of trans tunnel. I have a small unit that was in the rear of my camper when it was a minibus. I suffer terrible cramp if my feet get cold and as I'm now over the first flush of youth I consider it a necessity.

I think most heater matrixes with out the casing are small enough to hide some where in the chassis, you only need to have a small enclosure to heat passing air. I thought about putting one on the back of the passenger foot well/bulkhead, that way if you have any problems it's only bonnet off not dash and scuttle off. You could always make your own from copper 8-10mm fuel line if you have a radious bender and a few hours to kill. Having said that I've just had a look on fleebay and found this for not alot of money.

I would say cool but it would probably be more apt to say Warm :D :D
Quite like the look of that dainty heater Phil :) Kinda wish that I hadn't skipped the 4 Triumph heater units I had sitting on the shelf out in the workshop  |
I am thinking of something, possibly using two sierra matrix, one per side.

Early VW polo heaters were very popular at one time as very compact.

How are you going to heat the top half  .

Please dont shout at me but i think i found the perfect heater. Its from a reliant rialto and its really dinky. trouble is someone needs to confirm if they are any good or not, that someone has to have been in one at some point so i am not expecting any answers here.Might have to join the plastic pig forum.

I think I've found a very locost way of keeping you warm young Bob while your tearing around in your small block V8 roadster. You may want to put a tap in the cooling sytem and an extra large expansion tank though to keep replenishing the hot water.

Phil
:D :D Bob It looks as if that unit ticks most of the boxes required, compact, has motor & even a valve fitted so as it can be turned off if heat is not needed. Can't see tha back of it, I expect at worse you'll have to custom create the air ducting behind the dash. Certainly looks as if it is a fair bit more compact than the old Triumph units I had here ( I belive thy were Smiths units ) :) Never know, someone on here may have fitted one to a 7 |
Kinell phil could use them for a brew!:D Found some dimensions it measures 16"x9"x2.5" <sorry kids you will have to look it up>and for a recirc heater you can use as is.Think I will bid on this one and see.

Probably the best part of a Reliant Bob.

I,ve spent alot of time in Spuds car , both on track & long journeys ( Newark & back ) & found that the heat generated from the engine/transmission more or less kept my legs warm ( in fact quite cosy :D ), So if a heater was fitted I,m not sure you,d feel any benefit as its the upper part of the body that needs the warmth, but, alas we,re driving a car without a roof so any heat from a fitted heater would be pointless IMHO. Off to buy a thermal jacket :D cheers andy |
I was thinking long term and windscreen with weather gear, demist is a must. I had a cobra on the road for about ten years and was eternally grateful for a bit of heat on a return journey even in the summer, anyway its to much grief to fit later so I was thinking fit and forget.

heat from the engine is plenty on my car. the transmission tunnel gets very warm even on a cold day. on a summers day i can sometimes feel it burning my foot through my shoes when i rest my clutch foot on the transmission tunnel.
from my experience of 7's if its cold then there is nothing you can do to keep warm other than stay indoors. one of the chaps in my local club made an electric heated jacket that plugs into his fag lighter socket, apparently it works very well and is the best thing since sliced bread. |

Heat from the engine bay and trans tunnel is number one on my hit list. I took a car to the south of france once and like the roadster had all ali panels. It was a complete nightmare, i even ended up at the french quacks to get pills for swollen anxles is was that hot. I was lucky enough to be at an auction a few years ago an bought two 50mx1m rolls of that heatproof silverbacked exhaust wrap. A tenner for both they must be worth thousands. I have used that on several cars to line the trans tunnel and engine bays and what a difference, so there will be none of that cooked feet buisness in any more of the cars i build. Bob:cool: |
I intend wearing my motorcycle jacket. If it keeps me warm and dry on my bike it will surely be the biz in the roadster;)
