2 Aluminium fuel tanks 4 sale

Hi guys....I have made a couple of long range fuel tanks mainly to practice my TIG skills which I am glad to say are fine......ok the tanks ...I have made them with the saturn rear tub in mind so the angles follow that, they are made from 2mm aluminium and have a single baffle in the centre, they both have a surge tank welded to the bottom right of the tank looking from the rear, fill point and one vent and fuel return again on the right. Capacity is 8.2 gallons..... one minor stumbling block is the location of the surge tank will mean the relocation of the CP8 which is not too difficult....one has a turned cap with o ring ...one open for a rubber pipe.....here are a few photo's.......looking for £100 + p&p....each

K4KEV 29th September 2011 01:34 PM

Cannot believe these have not gone....I thought I'd have my arms ripped off.
Ok....this will be the only reduction before they go onto the LCB site £80 +p&p
so I would guess £85 posted....these tanks are Ally, baffled, sumped and shaped for the haynes roadster howay man:p

MikeB 29th September 2011 02:00 PM

Wasn't there a group buy on tanks a couple of weeks back?
These look go though, I want a longer shallower one to keep the boot space for weekend camping trips otherwise I would have ripped your arm off at that price!

K4KEV 29th September 2011 03:05 PM

Can do you a shallow one if you want.... £75 posted same height as the top of the diff cage.....the group buy was for mild steel ones, drop me a pm if interested

K4KEV 29th September 2011 05:44 PM

Sure Adrian.....just give me a shout when you want one.

K4KEV 1st October 2011 09:59 AM

Am looking for a 2.9 escort mk2 steering rack if any one fancies a swap for one of the tanks

jmh 2nd October 2011 12:05 PM

Hi there,

I am interested in one of the tanks.

Can you tell me the height of the main body of the tank please?

Also, presumably the tank that you are going to use will be similar, I was wondering what fuel level sensor you are using (is it the sierra one?)

Cheers,

Jonathan

K4KEV 2nd October 2011 03:49 PM

Hi Jonathan both tanks are 310mm high ....360mm to top of filler....I am undecided as to which tank I intend to use so still unsure as to which sender to get ...I may just get a universal one from ebay (around £24 with differing float lengths) One thing I am sure of is I am installing a long range tank as I don't want to be "sweating it out" trying to locate a fuel station, I also have another tank in the fabrication stage that has a 12gallon capacity. Both of the above tanks are up for grabs.....they have been pressure tested and there are no leaks.
yes all the tanks are at least 310mm high and yes the one I use will be as well
just drop me a pm if you want one.

K4KEV 8th October 2011 12:37 AM

One of the tanks now gone (the one with the turned cap).....other one is still available if any one wants a cheap Ally/sumped/baffled tank.

Davidbolam 8th October 2011 11:06 PM

Do you fancy using your TIG to produce one for the mx5 sender? The ones you have built so far look really good!

K4KEV 9th October 2011 12:22 AM

just drop me some dimensions Dave and I probably could.....I know width wise it is the same as the sierra chassis @ 610mm wide

K4KEV 13th October 2011 01:17 PM

8 gallon tank still for sale.....I have knocked a fiver off so £80 posted bear in mind postage is around a tenner so you are getting a bargain at £70.
Have just made one of these for Ayjay....it is a book spec tank but is sitting in my chassis made for Saturns tub, but like I say it is to the book specs. drop me a pm if anybody wants one @ £75 posted

Thansk. It will be for a grp rear end but i will need to measure the sender as the mx5 pump etc is all built into the sender mechanism. I will have a check the next time I go out into the garage

KenK 17th October 2011 09:59 PM

Kev
Do you still have a tank for sale? That fits the saturn rear end? If so i will take it thanks

To fit a Book roadster???

Bertie.

Well done Kev

Just thought that I would say, you have made a smashing job on those tanks Kev  :)

Nice to see someone putting their TIG welder to good use. :)

How are things going with your build ?

K4KEV 3rd November 2011 07:59 PM

Hi Ronnie.....bin too busy building bloody tanks .....promised myself I would get stuck in over the winter and hope for a spring/summer IVA, which means I will have to "go some".....you know how it is....somewhere under all that "rubbish" that got put on top of something else that got put on top of something other there is a chassis underneath it all, waiting to be progressed and me sierra is rusting away in the back garden....really need to get my finger out mate and get stuck in...I have some what neglected my build thread, the only thing I have done is won a new clutch MC and SC for my build for £5.50 off the bay.
Incidently I still have another long range tank (Saturn tub dims) left that I had on Ebay but ended up with a non paying bidder.....it is similar to others I have made but have the surge tank in the middle of the tank underneath so nothing needs moving...looking for £90 delivered or its going back on ebay.
will ressurect the build soon Ronnie.....you may have stirred me into action.

Bonzo 3rd November 2011 08:14 PM

Tis surprising just how much stuff can be stored on top of a Roadster, trust me I am no different Kev :o :o

Would take me at least a full day just to clear it all off let alone find all of my build components that are stored all over the place. :D

Sure that tank will soon be snapped up, a very good price indeed :)

Yes Kevin, what i'll do is to bring the sender along for you next week - it has the pump, float and feed / return pipe incorporated so is ideal to use. Then we can make a tank around it to use for future mx5 cars.

Cheers....AndyH

K4KEV 4th November 2011 10:33 AM

Sure Andy ...just giz a bell.

Out of interest Kevin, who sort of capacities do your tanks have? I can't resist buying shiny bits :o

Bertie.

Sorry Bertie I missed your post......all a fuel tank needs to supply a fuel injected engine is some form of surge tank or swirl pot....it ensures that when a vehicle moves be it accelerating/braking or turning the fuel in the tank will move around due to the forces acting on it so a surge tank is built to fill and be stay filled or at least partially filled to provide a constant fuel flow with no air ingress regardless of the cars attitude....if one were not fitted and the fuel "sloshed to one side of the tank exposing the "outlet tube" then there is a chance for air to be introduced into the fuel supply to the engine causing it to rev up and stall until it begins to receive fuel again....it really is essential as you do not want an engine to stall in any driving situation.
Carbed engines don't need them as they have float chambers built into them..well most of them do. (that was for the puritans):D

KenK 9th November 2011 06:20 PM

Received my tank today. Great job, really pleased with it

No probs fellow N.E.R.D:D :D

CTWV50 10th November 2011 12:03 PM

Hi Kev,

So glad to find someone's putting these together. I'll get some money together soon, I'm after an mx5 donor saturn rear end shallow tank like the one spud is after. Is that £75 + p&p?

Mine's a 95 year MX5 anyone know if they differ from earlier models pump and sender wise?

Cheers

Chris

PM been sent

spud69 10th November 2011 02:17 PM

I'll drop off that sender after work if that's okay Kevin.

If its a Mk1 Mx5 (which it will be for that age) then they will all be the same, have not seen the mk2 senders but they look similar on e-bay. The 1.6 version looks to have a different pump but will be the same depth for the same fuel tank.

K4KEV 10th November 2011 03:03 PM

yep...ok Andy

DRCorsa 27th December 2011 09:36 AM

Hello Kevin, i am interested for a tank for my BEC Haynes project.
Big question is: Is it possible to send you my bike fuel pump and then you make a flange on the tank and fit the pump on the tank?
Please pm me your email for more info. Thanks!
