Rivets
Just looking to buy the rivets to attach the floor etc. Appear expensive little things! Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced supplier?
Thanks Ken |
I got the ones (size recommended by saturn) for my floor and they were from screwfix and worked out really cheap. about £5 for 500

rivets
Hi Ken, I'll echo that, Screwfix Item code: 14233 Pop Rivet 3.2 x 10 - Pack of 500 for £ 5.28. After Boyes' el cheapo riveter fell to bits half way through rivetting, I bought the forged steel one from Screwfix, hell of a lot better. Dave.

mmmm iv been researching this quite a bit between here and locostbuilders.
and i came to the conclusion closed end, alloy rivets were the way to go  Bonzo's link http://www.shop4fasteners.co.uk/acat...d_Rivets.as p about £25 delivered though, a bit more expensive. what do other peepe think? |
Sealed rivets would be my personal choice.
Perhaps a couple of builders could get together & split a box ;) |
I like your thinking Bonzo! Now i have another dilema though - aluminium mandrel, steel mandrel, stainless steel mandrel - too many choices!

I did the same and just used up the 3mm plate I had left. Probly heavier for it but saved me money re-using and it was alot easier to weld it on. I'm only going to use rivets for the seat back & tranny tunnel panels personally.

Rivets
Hi everyone I been thinking about something it might be a stupid thing but never the less here it goes I was thinking say for example one day for whatever reason you have to remove the alli floor panels and its riveted and you drill or cut the rivets out but what will happen to the rest of the rivets it will go into the box section and not be able to come out so is there perhaps a rivet that can be removed after or what ideas would you guys have in mind
|
How many do you need? I have a bunch (250 ish) sealed 4mm rivets left over from my build.
|
Dezee, that would be plenty i am sure. What length are they and how much do you want?
Cheers Ken |
250 x 4mm x 12mm closed rivets. Steel mandrel, aluminium body (grip range 4mm - 8mm) To a fellow builder, they'll be free! Just pay postage.
|
Deezee, thats very generous thanks. I have pm'd my details etc and made an extra donation of £5 to the raffle

Did you get the rivets I sent down to you Ken?
|
Yes i did, many apologies for not replying! I am very grateful for them they are just the job. Let me know a paypal address and i will refund your postage.
Cheers Ken |
I know this is being re-opened again but in work we use lots of rivets and the place to get sealed / closed end rivets from is RS WWW.RSWWW.COM i have seen them in ally for about £5.50 ish for 100?
Dean |
I never twigged RS, does it matter they have a steel mandrel or not?
Will |
what do you mean by the mandrel? is that the bit that is gripped and pulled to "expand the rivet"?
|
yes it is.
|
i should not think that would be a problem.
|
Cool didnt realize Rs did them, ive looked everywhere for closed ally rivets
On another note if I was using 2mm ally chequer plate on 2mm box section would 3.2mm to 4.8mm grip range be ok or would you go for 6.4mm to 7.9mm? Cheers Will |
personally i'm going for double the thickness plus about 1mm more to allow for the sealant.
|
rivets
hi there i used steel 4.8mmx12mm or (3/16x1/2 in old money) i used sealed rivets with adhesive sealent to prevent the electrolitic action of the ally and steel at 50mm pitch
