Disaster strikes again

In need of urgent help if anyone can help PLEASE:)

I,ve come to the conclusion that my 1800CVH engine is goosed, it appears the oil pump has failed BIG time & probably damaged the big end bearings & also no doubt knowing my luck lots of other bits too

My IVA is booked & so to save time I,m looking at replacing the whole engine rather than spend time ( I haven,t got ) & money repairing it I think it would be quicker & easier to just change the whole engine.

So.......if anyone has a decent CVH engine available then please get in touch, either to buy from you or even consider just to borrow ( get me thru the IVA test ).

AAAArrrrgggghhhhh this car is determined to test my patience   .

cheers

Mark brought the engine crane back the other week, so you can borrow that andy.

carlknight1982 23rd February 2012 07:19 PM

Gus had one

mark 23rd February 2012 07:52 PM

I cant remember now as my iva was quite a while ago but dont you put the engine no. on the application? will fitting another engine cause you problems on iva day?

HandyAndy 23rd February 2012 08:11 PM

Cheers for your replies guys :)

Kev......thanks for your very kind offer, I,m hoping to swap like for like with another CVH but if I may can I put your offer of the Pinto as a "last resort" alternative please ? thanks mate .

TT......cheers mate, might be in touch subject to locating another engine .

Nath.....cheers mate, yes , that will come in handy as will no doubt need to swap engines.

Carl.....cheers for that , I,ve sent Gus a message so hopefully that might save the day .

Mark......yes I think it may cause me probs, but all I can do is contact them & explain the situation, hopefully they,ll understand & maybe let me carry on with the process although I,ll probably end up with a "Q" plate as i,ll be unable to confirm age of engine ( maybe ).

cheers also to Mike for an email of a possible engine available.

thanks guys.
Andy

mark 23rd February 2012 08:36 PM

You have to confirm engine age for your iva emmisions otherwise you will be tested on modern standards (so what ever you end up fitting get some proof of age)

Its dvla where you will get a Q if you use parts from different cars

Is it definately wrecked beyond help? ie no oil pressure and knocking its nuts off?!

Good point Mark , cheers :) ,

subject to what engine I can get hold of ( hopefully Gus,s ) which may help as will be able to prove engine age etc, tho could possibly also confirm the engine number on the Burtons catalogue etc. otherwise..... I may as well install a Zetec engine from the beginning etc , but that is more expense & hassle at this stage I could do without :o

The engine , sounds awful, sounds like 70,s diesel  , not showing much oil pressure at all & sounds like a bag of hammers rattling around inside  .

cheers

someone on ebay 25miles from us is selling a 1.8cvh sierra with a 2.0lt zetec included on an engine stand as a project, no bids on it and it ends in 21hrs, maybe worth messaging him with a cheeky offer he can only say no!

Then you will have a cvh for iva, a few sierra bits to sell and a zetec for your upgrade

I,ve been on ebay searching this afternoon & only seem to find 1.4CVH engines .

Sorry for asking ....been a long frustrating day :(

Edit.......just found the Ebay listing.

Thankyou Ayjay , thats very kind of you to offer , its precisely what my engine is running as too,

but it looks like Gus,s engine sale will save the day http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=7502y

Glad you are sorted
I hope Gus's engine solves the problem
Offer still open if things go avocado:D

Tatey 23rd February 2012 11:22 PM

Andy if you can't get that CVH for whatever reason I have my 1.8 Zetec you can borrow, with some ZX6R carbs, just waiting for my aluminium inlet manifold to arrive and then it should be sorted, except for the thermostat housing and megajolt. I've also got an engine crane now that you can borrow if needs be.

BORNXenon 24th February 2012 11:48 AM

Probably more hassle than its worth for you at this stage, (especially as you may be sorted) but I have a 2ltr Ecotec sat in the garage that was going to eventually be going in mine, however with the current prices of Sierra's I may be going the MX5 route so it will be surplus to requirements.

Thanks for the offer Simon, very kind of you :)

I,m buying Gus,s engine , just trying to arrange a courier now .
It,ll be a straight swap, like for like & will drop straight in on my engine mounts so in the long run will save alot of time not needing to make new mounts / exhaust manifold etc .

thanks to all for all the offers of help

cheers

HandyAndy 24th February 2012 08:14 PM

Thanks Ozzy & TT :)

Yes, i,m looking forward to be able to take the car to the end of my road & carry on going , it,ll be a nice feeling to lock the garage up without the Roadster being inside it

HandyAndy 8th March 2012 10:59 PM

I,d like to thank "Gus" for saving the day for me with regard the engine package he had for sale,......

I confirmed with Gus that I would have his engine on the friday, it was despatched to me on monday & delivered to my garage on wednesday.....really quick turn around ....thanks for that Gus

The engine has been installed & it runs like a dream, started on first turn of the key once the fuel pump had got fuel to the carb....well chuffed.

I,ve now driven it & I,ll be totally honest, it ( the engine ) is soooooooo much better than my original, smoother & quicker to pick up the revs ( I know its only a CVH engine but so much better than my "sick" original engine).

I,d like to publicly thank all the forum members who offered me their engines / or use of ......Thanks guys  A great forum spirit of help .

Also to thank Spud for helping me "jiggle":D the new engine in ( jiggle as in getting it on the gearbox shaft ),

& to Nathan at NTS for the use of the engine hoist.

Watch this space now, as the car is ready for test ;)

cheers
andy

Yeah I know what you mean, IVA, insurance, tax and registration fee comes to a good chunk of dosh

But you soon forget about that once you screw your number plates on and blast down the road for the first time!
