headlamp brackets

anyone got any offcuts of oval tube and 45 dia tube for making the headlamp brackets with?

ozzy1 25th June 2012 08:44 PM

I have found that the old type plastic cheap chairs that are used in canteens etc have oval steel legs which is ideal for the headlight brackets.

Ive just squeezed some round tube like others on here, not turned out so bad!!

I used some oval tube off an old shopping trolley that i retrieved from a ditch.

I even use the castor for build dolly, which is now been used by Baz-r

I just used leftovers from top wishbones, don't see what's the big deal with the oval profile.

Same here-I salvaged the old pipe when we had a new gas meter fitted:o

I know, I know:o

i managed to blag myself some tubing today from school. i might try and crush it to oval in the vice but if it looks rubbish then i'll just keep it round.

motomaniac 26th June 2012 01:13 PM

wouldnt crushing it , weaken it???... just a thought...

BenBrooks 26th June 2012 01:19 PM

i think others have crushed it (or squeezed it gently?). how strong does it need to be really

CTWV50 26th June 2012 02:10 PM

back support off of an office chair for me.:D and some old brake caliper pistons for the lamps to bolt up to.:D

alga 26th June 2012 03:48 PM

Heh, some kit cars use a piece of 3 or 5 mm plate for headlight mounts. So any tube should be better than that...

K4KEV 26th June 2012 04:50 PM

yep ...mine are crushers...just make sure wall thickness is around 2mm otherwise
it does not crush uniformly.

I have a load spare from making mine. It was from a clothes hanging rail that was being thrown into scrap pile at work. Let me know if you still want some?
