I have shortened my handbrake front section and want to have it joined professionally as I know from kevs iva the tester didn't like him having a join. David |
The only swaging I know of is for hyd piping, I shortened mine by fitting it to one end of the brakes and then fitting the other side, got right length and then a bolt the right diameter and drilled it to take the cable a little squeeze in the press and spot of mig on the end ,job done.
Spud did the same and after countless hand brake turns no problems. Give me a shout if I can help. |
The examiner (Alistair )at Gosforth will not entertain any kind of joint in the trans tunnel.....the "shortening" needs to be at one end of the cable ie inside the drum.....perhaps a long nut, put cable through, double back the end about 8-10 mm over the nut then wrap with several turns of uncoated copper wire, then a liberal amount of flux followed by solder so it all fuses together, even electrical solder will be good for this
|
Thanks I will have another look tonight and see what I can do.

use the excess that was cut off for a few practice attempts;)

Should of explained a little better, fit one good end to drum, let adjuster right off and then fit to other side and cut to fit and put nipple on the end and crimp/weld,to all intents and purposes one cable length.
Everything is inside the drum. |

That is what I've done (Sierra brake drums) to "improve" ![]() 2013-12-14_12-12-51 par Voucht71, sur Flickr ![]() 2013-12-14_12-26-12 par Voucht71, sur Flickr I don't know if these bicycle "cable stops" (I don't know how to call them in English, sorry, but you can see what it is) are acceptable for UK's IVA. But it works very well, the diameter is just a bit smaller than the hole in the hand brake lever, and this bit fits perfectly. For my first inspection, hand brake has to be operable, and it works very well with this :) |
