Tolerances
What kind of tolerances have people built their chassis's to?
I've started bracing up my chassis with the 19x19mm tube and with DR5/6 (possibly), 1 side is about 3-4mm longer than the other. Im not entirely sure why, im going to go back in there later on to try and find out why. If i were to just make 1 of the pieces 3-4mm longer to fit perfectly in the gap would it be a big no no? If i were to just to do that, what issues might it cause? Cheers |
I would have a check that your bottom rails are all square mate. if i remember right, my chassis was all about 1-2mm within tolerence throughout?

my aim was 0.5mm but my chassis tubes were cnc cut so it wasnt that difficult to achieve. At the end of the day no chassis will ever be perfect even on the best production cars. Thats why suspension ans joints are adjustable

i putt down alot of time & effort in making the bottom rails as close to perfect as posible & it was worth it because after that everything seemed to fall into place , however......i think where it realy counts is when building the suspension & making sure everything is semetric & square ,( am i right ?)

I've discovered the problem, many thanks to Talonmotorsport for his pm. It turns out that the back seat frame is twisted. The bottom rails are pretty much perfect on the build board, the left hand side of the back seat frame is pretty much perfect, but the right hand side is 10mm  further back, meaning it has put all of the other dimensions out, so i'll be spending this weekend grinding out about 10 tacks and repositioning everything else to the letter, better i noticed it now before i put any of the bracings or chassis plates on.
I'll update this thread on how i get on. Cheers for everyones advice. |
Always happy to help, the invoice will be in the post shortly lol.
