Anyone been out in theirs..

Driving to work today, It was a bit cold. We had an unoficial low of -19 the night before from a amature wether station.. And by the time I went to work to day it was -8.5.. Rather Chilly.

I was thinking on the 5 mile trip, that since the car was as cold as outside. And that since the engine was taking an age to get the heater going... What would it be like all wrapped up warm fully kitted out and driving a Roadster to work instead.

So has anybody ventured out in these SUB zero's ( not to be confused with a certain brand of 7 Rep ).

The Roads round here are turnign into ice rinks tonight. Picking the Toddler up from nursery was fun. Even light throttle on the 2.3 Galaxy was inducing wheels spin on Major city roads whet, frozen and polished!

I think it would have been rather scary in the Roadster.

Would love to TT but i wouldn't dare just incase something happened, there's a lot of silly drivers out there. Anyway can have just as much fun in my rear wheel drive nissan van, even though the heating is crap.......:p

Know what ya mean, spend half the time driving watching other cars sliding up to junctions and being prepaird to try and avoid. Just waiting for one to T-bone me!!

We had a lecturer at Uni that drove 20 miles a day everyday. He had an old Morgan, with just a tonnau.

Ventured to Chelmsford this afternoon all ok till a thought crossed my mind ah just pop into B&Q pick up a new bucket for mixing up machine/saw coolant in. Some silly cow decides that the 'one way' no exit has just become the new exit, stood on the brakes missed the silly b***h then the rear brake caliper jammed on solid. Recovery bod turned up said yeah that'll release with a bit of movement drove round the car park with it slipping and grabing 'this aint gona work' I'm thinking it's front and rear split ABS if one works both sides do! any body wana guess what happens when you go round corners with one wheel grabbing??? yeah thats right it's like pulling the hand break...
I got about 400 yards before my car control was tested 15ft saab 93 from straight to 90' across the road lots of opposit lock much swearing from the wife . So any chance that now you've got the truck here you can take us home? I don't fancy doing that for the next 30miles. would'nt mind but he nearly lost it 5 times on the way back and told me that I was going too fast??

When going fast is required to save life and limb

Try driving a 3 litre 5 series BMW with blue lights and sirens and try to respond within 12 minutes.

Its a good thing I am a PC or that statement would sound really weird.

You don't happen to patrol the A12 between Chelmsford and Canvey do you?

happyjo 8th January 2010 07:17 PM

No I work the big city, them Essex rats have no sense of humour.

I drove an unmarked police car well over the speed limit, as I am trained and they wanted to tell me off but couldn't keep up.

All of this is lovely but I've walked down to the pub tonight (15 minute walk in good weather and a real trial of intention in this weather) and it literally took my breath away. The thought of driving an open top roadster in conditions like this rally does send shivers down my spine, especially as mine will have a big fat V6 up front!

I don't think the roadster would have the ground clearance for the back roads around here. I took the Landcruiser out on Wednesday and it was leaving 3 ruts - 2 wheels and the diffs.

Still if you got a set of those bling 20" wheels :D

The points are just off my licence after a silver BMW got me, 4 years ago:(
in my V6 Galaxy:eek:

Took my 7 to its new home in Little Leez a week ago, my Grandad would drive faster and he's been dead for years, it was to say the least, very twitchy.
My only other car now is a chaved up Golf with huge almost slick tyres, old lady's overtake me on the snow:o
